And I'd call the Caprice PPV a stripped down rebadged G8 before I'd call the SS a souped up Caprice.

Interesting to see the G8 mentioned. The same coworker who bought the SS used to own a G8 for a few years. He sold it because it was doing Pontiac things - dissolved stitching in the seat seams, for example. As soon as he got the SS, he debadged and made it look as unassuming as possible, which took minimal effort, really.

Back to blind spot mirrors, my wife has outdone herself on the practical but hilarious front, she bought a convex interior mirror that's 43cm wide. Considering you just voluntarily climbed into a fiat multipla it's the most ludicrous thing you'll see all day, but within a few minutes of driving I grew to love the fact I could glance up and see not only what's behind me, but also what's on either side of the car, and what the kids are doing on the back seats. I am pretty sure a 2cv is capable of exceeding posted speed limits, that does not mean its fast. When compared to the srt-4, which has the "same" engine and is what started this discussion, it is quite a bit slower. srt-4 did 0-60 in ~5.2 seconds and did a 13.7 1/4 mile. also Shrapnig posted:A PT Cruiser most certainly isn't a minivan. PT Cruisers and their counterpart HHRs are classified as trucks (same with minivans) so that companies can lower there average MPGs in the truck category. Also were designed by the same guy.

I saw a weird commercial at work today, apparently Nissan is marketing some sort of emergency braking technology that makes you stop distance shorter than any other car. I guess the fact that ABS increases stopping distance finally got to the public, and there's a demand for regular braking systems now. I don't know if the anti-ABS system or the idea that regular brakes are an innovation is actually the Terrible Car Stuff, but I got some weird looks for chuckling at a commercial of a guy almost hitting a small child with his car. Immediately followed by a lot of concerned comments when my manager and I explained that all of the advanced safety systems in modern cars would have made it almost impossible to not hit the kid in that scenario slurry_curry posted:

Save for the bugeye WRX wagon, MR2 Spyder, S2000, Sky Redline, and RX-8, I can't think of many models from that decade that I genuinely like both styling and performance-wise. And those are a rally car, some roadsters, and a Grand Tourer, it's pretty hard to gently caress up those kinds of cars without some serious effort... Speaking of which, I can't hate the Prowler or Crossfire, they're not good cars by any metric, but they have such a distinct look that makes me want one, even though I know better. Yes, the Prowler was the absolute worst. Yes it should have been the Howler from day 1. Yes the idea of an underpowered, V6, auto-only homage to the Hotrod is so inherently stupid that whoever made it should have been taken out behind the shed like Old Yeller. I just like how they look, let's not have this conversation again.

The S2000 and MR2 Spyder were really products of the 1990s. I was gonna say C5 Corvette but that came out in 1997. 2001-2005 was a garbage time for new designs. Stuff from that era has also aged terribly.

I know a few people who've taken police-level driving tuition and contained within is braking tests. Cop says to basically jump on the pedal as hard as possible and afterwards states that nobody ever hits the brakes hard enough on the first test so I'm imagining the new tech is basically making sure drivers get as much out of the brakes as possible rather than removing ABS. Also chuckling at accident ads is fine, this one was my favourite as a kid as I'm not entirely sure they saw the humour whilst making it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRo-2THXaOQ
