I was wondering the same thing. I know AI generally likes the G8, but now we're making GBS threads on the next generation of the same car because it had a Chevrolet badge or something I guess.

And I'd call the Caprice PPV a stripped down rebadged G8 before I'd call the SS a souped up Caprice.

Hier graben!
Interesting to see the G8 mentioned. The same coworker who bought the SS used to own a G8 for a few years. He sold it because it was doing Pontiac things - dissolved stitching in the seat seams, for example.
As soon as he got the SS, he debadged and made it look as unassuming as possible, which took minimal effort, really.

Well, for me it would. I have an appreciation for a car that was designed to get fast lap times and nothing else. The current Civic Type-R was built around the same idea, although it's made off of a much better base.

I have a G8, myself. I haven't had any stitching problems, but some guys I know have. A lot of the G8 people move to the SS or the CTS-V after a while.

I thought the post in question was more about the wtf that was gm's marketing and pricing of the SS, and why it was selling poorly.

The SS is AI except on the pricing, with that and the relative rarity I doubt I'll ever own one despite it being pretty perfect on paper.

Yeah the price is definitely ridiculous. Although 2009 G8 GXP's are still in the 30k range depending on miles, so I guess it's to be expected.

I actually don't mind the interior of the G8. It's the nicest car I've ever owned, considering I owned an old maxima and a couple of jeep cherokees before that. I haven't sat in an SS yet, either.

My sister's Town and Country has a built in mirror to check on the kids in the back, but since she's like 5'2", she sits too far forward to be able to actually use it. Hell, I'm 5'8" and can't really see anything in the mirror, though I tend to sit a bit forward like a grandpa, not leaned back like most people I know.

I am pretty sure a 2cv is capable of exceeding posted speed limits, that does not mean its fast.

When compared to the srt-4, which has the "same" engine and is what started this discussion, it is quite a bit slower. srt-4 did 0-60 in ~5.2 seconds and did a 13.7 1/4 mile.

I don't know man everytime I go to the gym here there are like two huge dudes with raging high and tights snorting Nitro-tech off of each other's rock hard abs.
I saw a weird commercial at work today, apparently Nissan is marketing some sort of emergency braking technology that makes you stop distance shorter than any other car. I guess the fact that ABS increases stopping distance finally got to the public, and there's a demand for regular braking systems now. I don't know if the anti-ABS system or the idea that regular brakes are an innovation is actually the Terrible Car Stuff, but I got some weird looks for chuckling at a commercial of a guy almost hitting a small child with his car.
Immediately followed by a lot of concerned comments when my manager and I explained that all of the advanced safety systems in modern cars would have made it almost impossible to not hit the kid in that scenario

As much as I hate to admit it, the 914 is pretty terrible car stuff :smith:

The 2000's were a pretty awful time for cars. Save for the bugeye WRX wagon, MR2 Spyder, S2000, Sky Redline, and RX-8, I can't think of many models from that decade that I genuinely like both styling and performance-wise. And those are a rally car, some roadsters, and a Grand Tourer, it's pretty hard to gently caress up those kinds of cars without some serious effort...
Speaking of which, I can't hate the Prowler or Crossfire, they're not good cars by any metric, but they have such a distinct look that makes me want one, even though I know better.
Yes, the Prowler was the absolute worst. Yes it should have been the Howler from day 1. Yes the idea of an underpowered, V6, auto-only homage to the Hotrod is so inherently stupid that whoever made it should have been taken out behind the shed like Old Yeller. I just like how they look, let's not have this conversation again.

The S2000 and MR2 Spyder were really products of the 1990s. I was gonna say C5 Corvette but that came out in 1997. 2001-2005 was a garbage time for new designs. Stuff from that era has also aged terribly.

I know a few people who've taken police-level driving tuition and contained within is braking tests. Cop says to basically jump on the pedal as hard as possible and afterwards states that nobody ever hits the brakes hard enough on the first test so I'm imagining the new tech is basically making sure drivers get as much out of the brakes as possible rather than removing ABS.

Also chuckling at accident ads is fine, this one was my favourite as a kid as I'm not entirely sure they saw the humour whilst making it.
