But only one - red - is available in the customiser, and it comes with the yellow. So if you want to have regular yellow windows, you have to make sure you never ever customise it, or it'll change and you can't get the original ones back. Huh. Until your post I had no idea there even were yellow windows for that thing. Makes sense in a "oh cryptic, you scallywags!" kind of way.

Delayed Overload Cascade from the new Kelvin box is amazing on a science ship. I can buff it to around 55k which means essentially every ship stuck in a grav well explodes in a stacking clusterfuck of fun.

So I'm stuck with two untradable fleet ship modules from Reputations, which I have maxed all of now. Do I spend the EC to buy more from the exchange and get another fleet ship, or buy fleet versions of T6 ships I have like the Risian Corvette, Temporal Battlecruiser, or Geneva?
|
# ? Sep 21, 2019 13:32 |

Note that the T6 Risian Corvette is kind of a special thing in that the event one was just a normal escort but the fleet version has the full suite of pilot zippy stuff so that's something to keep in mind.

If you don't own a Pilot ship and haven't used one before, the "fleet" Risian Corvette is 100% worth a fleet ship module

What's the usual decent buy price for Omega Silver? I feel like I remember 60k per being OK. I need to stock up and haven't done so for a while, so I'm trying to remember what I should wait for the exchange to hit.

They go as low as 42k people are actively farming though.

There's a chance they could make major changes to the next anniversary event. From what the developers have said, I think it'll use the new event system, and I doubt they're happy with the way Omega upgrades have been farmed.

Eh, I"m not concerned enough to buy a poo poo ton of them at a bad price. If they gently caress up the upgrade system badly enough whatever, it's not like you need optimized gear for PvE bullshit anyway. edit: frankly I wouldn't mind if they overhauled the gear upgrade system as it stands. It's loving idiotic and isn't even a bonus to them from a monitization standpoint. Cyrano4747 fucked around with this message at 23:49 on Sep 23, 2019 |

Honestly omega upgraded have gotten less important now that the Phoenix upgrades are a thing. The omegas are still the best for maxing quality on mkII crafted stuff or whatever, but for rep gear or things that are already XII+ it doesn't really matter.

The game also needs a bit more of a dil sink now that the exchange price has risen, and the Omega upgrades run counter to that. I don't know how much Cryptic actually cares about that, though.

Cryptic doesn't really care about the high dilithium exchange rate. If anything it's good for them since it tips the balance towards cash money payments; it's inefficient to farm for zen with dil so people are more likely to buy, while the high rate means buying dilithium is a relative bargain. Would it be better for players if it was back at 220-260 like way early on? Yep. But there's no motivation for cryptic to fix it until it's sitting maxed out at 500 and people actually stop playing die to it.

I think it's about a wash. I blow through 4 patrols in about the same time that I'd spend on one of the longer STFs. As a bonus you actually get ship xp, so if you have a backlog of poo poo to unlock it makes it go by really damned fast.
|
# ? Sep 24, 2019 00:44 |

The greatthing is that the constant respawns at the end of the patrols are timed, so if you're really bad at the game you basically get nothing exciting from patrols because you couldn't kill them fast enough to do more than 1-3 waves. It was hilarious to see a few people whine about that on reddit and the official forums. Meanwhile with even a vaguely well designed boat you can max ship mastery in just 3-5 patrols.

I guess it's an improvement for all the broke-brained people who were doing event stuff on all 50 of their alts, but it's more work for me. I think the amount of work involved in this event is just because they're giving away a ship. The normal featured events that give some dil and a piece of gear should just be one queue a day like always. I hope

They changed their plans for the dilex a year ago or so, and started putting dilex-up events at the same time they ran every phoenix boxe so it wouldn't go down anymore. They want it up so its up. The obnoxious grind for the 'free ship' is to get people to pay for all/part of the cost of it.

# ? Sep 24, 2019 01:45 |

Jokes on them. I wasn't going to fly it anyway, only collect it because Elachi ships all look cool. Decided the grind was too obnoxious so stopped caring and went back to gun farming in Destiny 2.

I'm grinding it out, running the four patrols only takes about half an hour, but yeah I have no plans to use the funguy boat. Every single event boat I've been around to pick up has been an ugly thing I have no desire to use, I missed all the ones I'd actually feel a desire to fly. But the admiralty farm grinds on, since the space combat is still fundamentally fun for the most part and I just haven't seen another game that runs on modern operating systems that works like this. Even with the stupid high prices I can get another t6 boat now when I please. Edit: The new ships are some of the ugliest I've ever seen. You know the old saying "if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all?". Well I'm going to try anyhow because I'll happily piss onto the fire. They look like poo poo. I particularly like how on the green space bus some of the hull textures are clearly stretched in a way not intended because Edit - or maybe it's show accurate and the original actually looks that bad. Wouldn't know, haven't watched any of the STD in case it's contagious. DancingShade fucked around with this message at 08:11 on Sep 25, 2019 |

Every last loving Discovery klingon boat is a design atrocity and I have no idea how they managed to get past the design phase let alone onto the screen. I do not envy the cryptic devs who had to suffer through putting them into the game. Also the fed one is kind of eh. I guess.

Basically every ship design that's come from Discovery is terrible aside from the Gagarin (and that one was ruined for me when some Youtubers pointed out it was the Shenzhou flipped upside-down) and I'm surprised Cryptic has done as good a job as they have slightly altering/future-izing the Starfleet ones to make them even remotely attractive. Making the Shran light escort look like something was a herculean effort.

One of my biggest issues with the fundamental design of the Klingon everything in STD is how ornate it all is. I think one of the TNG artists, the guy who designed the interior sets for the Klingon ships, had the right idea: Klingon stuff is supposed to be brutalist and stripped-down. Klingon ships are supposed to be warships, none of the Federation's comforts or luxuries or the Romulans' intimidating aesthetic, and their ship interiors were modeled on oil rigs and refineries. Legit artwork and ornamentation was supposed to be kept super rare, reserved for things like the Great Hall on Qo'noS.

In TOS, the Klingons were explicitly space Soviets, with a bit of a space Mongol undercurrent. The TOS-TNG movies moved them into a space samurai direction. TNG made them fully on space Vikings. DS9 added some nuance to the space Vikings. ENT made them stupid space Vikings. STD, in one of the lead writers' own words, made them space ISIS, and specifically wanted to evoke a space Islamic Golden Age vibe with their visual design.

Related to nothing, there's nowhere that mentions that the Kelvin Divergence vanity shield from the recent lockbox actually uses the new green D7 skin rather than the fed skin if you're klank-aligned. And it actually looks pretty nice on both klingon and romulan boats, especially considering their relatively limited (and older/rougher) skin options.
