However, when you have a few hundred or thousand technocrats with complete control over a billion( reminder, a loving BILLION) people, there are plenty of historical examples for them to draw from in order to attain success. If China doesn't want to fail they can look towards the U.S., and if they want to see inevitable failure they can look towards the Soviet Union.

Um you do know that the CCP brutally oppresses the population both at home and abroad, a few pages ago we talked about they are trying to have cells operate on forgien universities to keep track of its citizens studying abroad. Yes china has alot of people and your right a civilization will rise and fall on its population but its not just raw numbers alone, you need a healthy educated population. If china had good academic culture and produced good research then yeah, but there are...cultural...problems getting in the way of that. Also when your population out strips your food producing ability then you have a big loving issues. Personally i would love to see the CCP building nuclear power plants to get them off of coal and then use them to run massive desalinization plants, but oh well.

The year China`s economy passes the US has been a decade away since around 2006. I remember when I was in college the rise of China narrative was huge and 2012 was the the year it was going to happen.

This is because of sheer population. The better number to look at is GDP per capita, where China still has some catching up to do. granted, these numbers are all grossly exaggerated/completely made up anyway, but what can you do

I mean, because of market size there's a pretty good chance China will become the largest economy by GDP, but it doesn't matter that much since they will never come anywhere close to the US in per-capita. The Chinese economy would have to outstrip the US by several times just to equal it, let alone surpass. I do not think that will happen. Even if they were competent, there are just too many people.

It's absolutely not accurate data, but I also don't find it that hard to believe that China could have a larger GDP than the US at some point. It just doesn't mean that much. They need to get on it before automation renders population differences moot though, if they want to parade around the #1 GDP as a thing.

I think it is pretty much inevitable that China will surpass the U.S. by total gdp because of their population, and they seem to have competent leadership. There is absolutely no way they surpass the U.S. by gdp per capita ever in the history of the world. The only countries that surpass the United States are basically microstates like Singapore or Luxembourg. It really is insane that the U.S. has a gdp per capita close to those tiny countries or a country like Norway. It's unbelievable that a state like say Mississippi, the poorest state by far in the union, has a gdp per capita equivalent to the United Kingdom. The United States and most of the western world will be rich beyond measure even if China or India eventually has a larger gdp than the largest western country.

Today I used a bathroom with a half inch layer of pee on every surface and piles of rotting soft-serve texture poo poo in each squatter as well as a couple on the floor, my eyes watering, the air thick with flies, while a guy squatted on the ground grunting and taking a watery poo poo, staring at me as if I was the problem. They can have all the GDP they want but it's still a total hole.

To the goon that asked where I went: Nowhere. I've been swamped with work and decided to try out one of those website blockers to block all websites except a few. It turns out it owns, and the internet reliance that's been part of my habits for about 20 years now disappears really, really fast. I experienced this many times before in India (power and internet outages) or when moving around (especially since I didn't get my first smartphone until 2015), and always liked how options open up when the internet disappears. I'll be sticking to this for the foreseeable future. I want to let goons know that when I leave Thailand I'll be making a stop in China because the good flights to the US are out of Hong Kong, and Shenzhen is right there, along with all my friends and frenemies. I can avoid those poo poo hole Beijing and Shanghai airports and get a direct flight to the West Coast of the USA from HK. I'll keep y'all updated, because LOL at that feeling returning there for a couple weeks. What I wanted to add is that I had dates here in Thailand with not one, but two Taiwanese ladies recently. I want to say that not one, but two Taiwanese ladies were speaking such intense amounts of superstitious horseshit mumbo-jumbo quackery that I wanted to look around for a hidden camera or something. I could not believe how retarded the stuff was that they were saying, believing, or doing. I've met TCM doctors many times, and even they were more level-headed than this. I have since stopped talking to both because I just had nothing to say. I couldn't ignore their ignorance. Both were in their thirties, university educated, and have lived in a couple different countries. Some examples: "Don't drink water, water makes you fat." *Has been working in Thailand for many years, somehow does not know a single Thai person IRL* "All Thai women just want money out of all the men, they are dangerous. Chinese women don't want your money." *She gets food poisoning because leaving food in a sealed container on the kitchen counter for 24 hours in 32C degrees heat is a perfect environment for bacteria* *I explain how I used to manage a restaurant and the food handler's certificate and the rules about leaving food out* "No, that's not it. I ran out of good luck." "Because we don't pay attention to our Qi, we are easy to get sick" - *Gets a runny nose from smog or something, goes to a Chinese man TCM doctor here in Bangkok* *Doc wants to treat her problem with moxibustion, aka cigarettes for the body* *She gets the super duper kind with the cloth and potato and brown sugar laid on her body* *Doc screws up and burns the absolute poo poo out of her* *She shows me a gigantic burn mark that's all brown and yellow and full of fluid* - Me: "That's horrible, that's not medicine at all. You got burned. You need to put bandages and ointment on that so it doesn't get infected. You're probably going to have a huge scar." Her: "It's the toxic stuff and illness coming out of my body. When it comes out of the skin it looks really dirty, because it is going around inside my body and affecting my Qi." *Starts a full cry session from pain when trying to put bandages on later* "I will be so much healthier when this comes out of me." *That woman above had too many quotes about Qi energy, it drove me nuts, because her first line of defense for anything was to chew on antibiotics* Her: "Men don't like making conversation or making friends." Me: "Why do you think that?" Her: "I read a book by a man in Taiwan. He said men hate speaking, and their wives talk too much, so they cheat on the wives." Me: "I don't understand how that works." Her: "Yes, because I just know all men hate speaking to me." Me: *lol, I want to tell you I know the reasons why but it doesn't matter* Her: "I feel a little sick." Because I found it weird that both of these women had similar ideas about the body and world worked, and about things and in ways that I didn't encounter with the average Mainlander. I guess Mainland hocus pocus has been standardized, while it's been given free reign in Taiwan to keep people stuck in mind prisons of anti-logic? It was intolerable.

It was also inevitable that the Soviet Union, and later Japan would surpass the US and rule the world or whatever. I mean, China might take over the US, it wouldn't be a suprise. But at the same time, it sure as hell isn't "inevitable" just due to how lovely everything is managed here and how a complete joke the education system is.

I don't think anyone in this thread thinks China will rule the world in 2020. China will stall out at some point. They'll be much better off than when they started, that's already happened. But the CCP will hold them back from achieving what might be possible here if they were gone.
