I personally approve of the bird pictures so The new CG sounds promising with the lines about AI and weaponry involved with it. quote:The Federation has launched an initiative to develop autonomous military hardware with which to fight the Thargoids. Looking forward to the eventual AI rebellion after the Thargoids are finally defeated.

So what is with the random permits that you unlock while getting fed ranks? As far as I can tell there isn't anything special about them except a discount on an eagle (whoopie doo).

It's the same with the Imperial systems you unlock. There's basically nothing noteworthy about any of the unlockable systems except Sol (for the sightseeing) and Shinrarta Dezhra (since it has all the equipment and ships buyable in one station, which is a huge deal). It's a bit like the military rank system in general - you do a bunch of trash missions to get the ability to do a rank-up mission... which is just the same kind of trash mission as all the others. The military rank-up missions are a fantastic opportunity to put some interesting missions in the game that everyone would do sooner or later, but instead they're just nothing.

Sometimes the game feels like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNFy49R08Ak Cardboard cutouts hinting at cool things with no dimension behind them. But I am excited to see where the thargoid invasion takes the game. It FEELS like something cool is about to happen. I just hope I don't get too close and the cutout falls over. Edit: Just so I say something positive about the game too. I just got a firgher bay and it is awesome. I love launching and docking in it. Plus it melts shields so quickly. Its super cool and makes me want to play the game more and more. jubjub64 fucked around with this message at 21:13 on Feb 16, 2018 |

What makes Isinona fun is two things for me: one he explains the in-universe lore which gives his activities a context beyond "this dude is actually just kind of treading water," and the lack of voiceover means everyone reads his narrative in their own headvoice, putting the viewer into the cockpit.

Some of them are from previous Elite games; eg Ross 128 is a massive, top security penal colony that you needed to get a permit for, Facece is the home system of the Imperial Navy, Eta Cassiopeiae is home to Fed Navy, etc. Others, I got no idea.

Efficient mod the beams and they'll work well, but without that they're too power-hungry and hot to be very practical on a Vulture with other power-hungry weapons. Same goes for the PAs. But once efficient modded (and perhaps with a mild overcharge on the powerplant) you get a lot more options on what will work

I've setup my own bindings for the ones that didn't pre-fill and it has been a dream compared to trying to use the mouse/keyboard combo.

I'm playing this with the rift, and while it would probably be better with a full HOTAS setup, it works just fine with my lovely sidewinder pro and keyboard. WASD+ the nearby keys should cover most of the non-joystick movements and keybinds- of course that's assuming you can manage to handle it while blind, which shouldn't be a problem for anyone who touch types, which I would assume mostly includes every goon there ever was, is, or will be

Gearhead posted:Yeah, the mouse feels suuuuper awkward. The default keyboard/mouse controls are awkward as hell, if you mess with them they're quite nice. I'd tell you what I did but it's been so long since I played I can't remember for sure. Mainly getting all of your thrusters on and within easy reach of WASD, throttle on the mousewheel with 25% increments and I think I put yaw on the keyboard, roll on the mouse X and pitch on the mouse Y with auto return to center enabled. Also +50%/-50%/0% throttle binds wherever they feel right. I think I had W forward thrust, S reverse, A left, D right, R up, F, down, Q yaw left, E yaw right, Z to toggle flight assist, X throttle 0%, and +50/-50 on the two thumb buttons on the side of my mouse. Once you learn to mainly fly with the thrusters and abuse flight assist toggling it all feels comfortable. Some people prefer having yaw on the mouse and roll on the keyboard, so try that too. And so, brothers and sisters, we come to my yearly sermon... For those of you in the congregation who have, in your heart of hearts, transcended your base desires for desks full of chunky peripherals, I beseech thee! Hear these Holy Words of Light, and hold them dear within thy breast. And the Words are: "You know, with the right binds and a little practice, Elite works pretty spectacularly with an XBox controller."

Elite works pretty spectacularly with any kind of control peripheral you care to plug in. Just not out of the box. The sheer amount of binds and alternatives and the easy with which you can bind anything to anything means that you can always make something work for you. You just have to figure out how to run things in a way that feels natural to you.
