The first episode airs on the 31st so links will probably start showing up a day or two after that. What you may have seen posts about was from people who were in the Zoom sessions they’re running in place of an audience on filming days.

I'm a sucker for this style of song, but I think the production is doing a better job with their voices on this song as well.

Pixy is definitely my favorite, but stayc, tri.be, and purple kiss are all top notch. Aespa is lower for me personally, mostly because I'm not real interested in the quirky stuff SM is trying out there. I'm hoping they walk back this weird rear end try with NMixx since they've got some good talent there. It'll be interesting to see what yg does, I'm hoping they finally hired another producer so they can actually do more releases in a year.

Yeah Aespa is kinda cool, but I don't really dig their production for the most part.

Also a new boy group just dropped. I had zero expectations but... I kinda love it, it's just so fun and upbeat.

Dalla Dalla was one of the biggest KPOP debuts in a minute and won hella awards lol

Aren't kpop sales just indicative of hype and peoples desire to collect photo cards anyway. Boy groups have insane sales but most of the songs rarely do well on charts because nobody actually wants to listen to them.

lol that IST put out a 17 minute documentary style video interviewing weeekly and music critics to try and explain the new concept, and then just didn't bother giving it eng subs.

I think it’s more that there are many ways to measure success and popularity. Wins/charting/sales/streams etc are all different metrics (even more so with groups that are aimed more internationally) and some groups succeed in only one or two and completely flop in others. IU and BTS are like the only two artists that reliably crush it across all of the areas.

NMIXX has been doing some Spanish speaking promotional stuff since a couple of them are fluent. Have other girl groups done the same in the past? Not exclusively Spanish promotions, but international debut promoting in general?

Not during debut, but Momoland was recently scheduled to appear/perform on a promo tour in Mexico because they blew up with that audience and I think recently had a song with a Latino artist too. A lot of groups are huge in Brazil and other places as well. Pixy had a huge welcoming in India despite being basically unknown in Korea or even broadly speaking.

Yeah tons of groups. Bottom Liner mentioned Momoland, another one would be Dreamcatcher. Latin American/Spanish speaking fans are a huge part of the kpop ecosystem now I think.

Cool. So I guess NMIXX is the first to do international promoting during their debut? That seems significant.

It's good you posted that because I'd already completely forgotten to check back on it, still feels insane to me to have had a completely viral hit last year, do a bad job capitalising on it and then just switch concepts.

A lot of groups seem like they relied on the youtube channels that do transonglation challenges, or the videos that feed them lines in another language and get them to read them for international promotion. I always thought groups should do more mukbang style videos and eat cuisines from different countries, Solar did a video like that with a Korean Indonesian youtuber, people like you more when you're willing to eat their food.

I guess this is being called a debut even though it's technically pre-debut so I'll post it. They apparently have a 7 year contract with M25 so they're not just a temp survival show group surprisingly.

Such bullshit. The accusations weren’t as bad as other idols that are still working, the investigation conclusion was even the same as Lia’s (we can’t prove these accusations are false”). All they had to do was issue immediate apologies, put her on a hiatus, and move on. gently caress Cube.

Can Soyeon and the other members just leave cube after their album drops. Can Soyeon just start her own label.

If they stay with cube that'd be the most surprising news I've seen in kpop (outside of some of the bigger scandals). I could see them all going to pretty much anywhere, but most likely one of the smaller decently connected labels made by artists. I don't know a good name for that, but think like the ones psy/ravi/hyolyn have made.

I could see Soyeon getting taken by a large outfit like SM (since they’ve worked together so much) as soon as her contract is up, if she doesn’t want to do her own thing. That would be as much for her producing work as her own performance.

FWIW, the timing of the Soojin announcement was due to the Hail Mary defamation suit they filed having wrapped up in the legal system, and not in their favor. You can't really blame them for this particular inconvenience. Literally every other incompetently handled aspect of this scandal, yes.
