Has anyone on PS4 found the new patch has screwed up their control scheme? Before I was using the sixaxis to head look, tilting left and right to look horizontally and back and forward to look up and down. Since the patch however horizontal movement works the same as before but looking up and down is tied to rotating the controller instead. It's super awkward and no amount of faffing around with settings seems to restore it to the way I had it set up before.

I had a weird experience with the patch where Elite stopped recognizing my X52 and wouldn't anymore until I started launching the game in admin mode. I also had to manually change my control preset back to custom to get my binds back (Elite will fail to load your binds altogether and go back to a default preset if it can't detect one of the controllers used in your bindings). I did not have this issue in the beta.

Cracked Industrial Firmware is only a tier 3 mat, which means you can turn a single Modified Embedded Firmware into 27 CIFs at the data trader. MEFs rain down like candy from evacuation missions so that's a way more lucrative way of getting CIFs than any cracktrain

I kept my lovely DD5 EPT drives in storage thinking they might come in handy so my plan is to run out to Palin and reroll a couple of those and slap them in my iCouriers and maybe my Eagle. After that I'm going to focus on getting my lightweight stuff really light instead of just light enough to get my weights below minimum so I can have some nice QoL things like more than bare minimum fuel and maybe a scanner.

Just use the cheat sheet from Canonn: https://ruins.canonn.technology/ It is impossibly tedious otherwise and even with the cheat sheet you are looking at dozens of hours for 200m credits (at the most). Also the writing is lovely. Personally, if you want to make money: do something else more fun. If you want to see cool lore-content, find the generation ships which actually have decent writing and voice-acting attached.

Inara already has a nearest material trader searchable database. You go to one in a station and basically exchange around the mats you don’t need for ones you’ll need. It’s honestly amazing. The best thing it has done is suddenly made every single USS important now. I find myself stopping at every one, scanning everything, doing all the things again because getting 50 of something useless just means getting 6-12 of something even better.

Anyone do one of the new mothership scan/cargo raid things yet? Where do you even find them? The chieftan is like a vulture with more bite but less able to take a beating. The upside is it’s crazy maneuverable, has a rad cockpit, can roll almost all fixed weapons easily, and those engine sounds.

Yeah, it's more grindy in that it takes more mats, but because there's no more RNG it massively offsets it. You feel like you're actually making progress towards making your ship better instead of praying you get a good roll.

So if I go back to mining for a bit and fill up on materials from shooting down pirates and the odd element I get, can I trade up enough of the random poo poo I find to roll a pretty good module or two (probably fsd or shields)? Full disclosure, I'm almost certainly going back to mining anyway.

You can get low level elemental mats from mining, and you can use those to trade up to higher level ones. But it seems like driving the buggy is still the best way to get certain high level elements.

Hanging out on a moon for a half hour or so and trying best to find the metallic type signals can net you a ton of good mats. I’ve also had tons of luck with the degraded, encoded, and combat aftermath USS. Any ship you kill in a USS will also drop good materials. Basically USS are good now. Also, sit in front of a busy station or nav point and scan wake echos for half an hour. A nav beacon in a busy system will work fastest. You’ll have so much data. Then do the rescue missions for the harder materials to get. They are super easy freebies.

I'd been running an 8B power plant in my Anaconda for a while now because I couldn't afford the upgrade to an 8A. But I just unlocked the Guardian power plant and it's a beast, better than a stock 8A, and it's only 5 million credits! The only downside is the heat management, but putting a level one heat efficiency mod on it makes it cooler than a stock 8A, and still have several more MW of power to spare. And if you want an exploraconda, you can fit a full exploration fit with everything you need with the 2A Guardian power plant to save weight from the standard 4A PP exploration build. The unlock for this stuff took me pretty much all day, but it's totally worth it, and I have all of the Guardian material to unlock the weapons now too.

Sol system 3.0 trip report. poo poo is gorgeous. Mercury: Earth, the patch notes said they improved the continent textures, and yes they did. Some moons of Jupiter, and I think the clouds on Jupiter are more detailed now. Less beige that’s for sure. The last is Ariel, the moon of Uranus. It is loving rad and if you want to fly some extremely deep canyons it’s the place to go. Take your 900m/s iCourier there. The canyons are much more pronounced now. I mean, deep. I didn’t try to land in the bottom of them this time. I am still 20km off the ground in this picture.

The best place to scan wake echos are the distribution centers in famine systems. They tend to be clustered in a few areas around it, so you don't have to go far. Also great sol pics.

so to get the guardian s-rank stuff is it just a matter of flying to some place to pick up the mission, and then landing somewhere to do a dune buggy mission? or are there reputation/material requirements of some kind? i wouldn't mind putting my unlocking all the engineers quest on hold to unlock some super equipment that then can be used for unlocking all the engineers but i'm not sure if i've got what's needed to do them

You just need to go to the Guardian sites (all the ones you need are in the galnet article) and scan columns and blow up bad guys in your SRV. There are easy puzzles to do at some of them. I'd suggest doing one once, but are not necessary to getting the materials you need. The tech brokers are all over, but if you have access to Jameson Memorial there is one there.
