I imagine the line of thought is something along the lines of "Women are objects for my use. My leadership confirms this on a regular basis, and that makes me feel good. But those liberals keep trying to shame me for it and make me feel bad. But see, one of their more powerful members has been doing it for years, so I, and everyone else on my side, can safely dismiss all of their claims about having the moral high ground, which makes me feel good again." Obviously not with that exact wording, but the gist of it is there.

Concern trolling and deflection are just aspects of the team sports mentality. Political stances are only useful as a means of attacking the other side, intellectual honesty irrelevant. Say whatever you need to say in order to win.

Garrison's Manly Trump Daddy reminds me of when I lived in Manila under the Marcos regime (Early 80's). The papers were all run by his cronies, and nothing bad was ever said about him. The political cartoons showed him as a tough, scrappy, muscled guy who rolled up his sleeves manly-style to take on his feeble opponents. When the opponents were acknowledged at all. Of course, the truth was that Marcos was often bed ridden and needed frequent dialysis. So good work on mimicking the style of dictator supporters, Garrison!
