Yes, Kellie Leitch continues to get Trumpism wrong. You don't argue against socialized healthcare, you argue that it should be restricted to old stock Canadians or some crap

CLAM DOWN posted:Actually I hope she choses universal health care as her hill to die on, because that would guarantee her loss People said this about trump winning the nomination because that would guarantee republican loss. Don't ever underestimate how stupid people are, specially Canadians. Give the average voter a year of propaganda about our grossly inefficient health system with long waits and how poors and first nations don't pay into it and people are suddenly less horrified at voting for a party that wants to change it so it better serves middle class canadians via private/public partnerships and more "fair" funding.

I found that video a little reassuring, in that it just seems to emphasize that Leitch is a really underwhelming television performer. Vintersorg posted:The nerve of this sea witch. Interviewer: [slightly perplexed by inexplicably humourless and prickly interview guest] Well you certainly have a vast resume. Let's talk about... I don't think I've ever tried to donate to the NDP (provincial or federal) and had the monthly donation box not automatically checked. Or had the default donation be $5. Or the highest listed donation be $35. Knowing the BCNDP they probably just have a lovely website coder. I'm still going to donate. Also found this on the Elections BC website: Elections BC posted:1. Are there limits on the amount that can be contributed to a candidate, registered constituency association or registered political party? Is this standard for provincial politics? Because that's awful.

People not clearing their sidewalks is legitimately one of the most enragingly selfish things I can readily call to mind. People who don't clear them within 24 hours of a snowfall should have their tires slashed and their driver's licenses taken away so they can see just how much of an impossibility it is to get through the 3 inches of loose powder on top of smooth ice on their sidewalks. There is a special place in Hell for those whose sidewalks are un-navigable while having an immaculate driveway, and doubly so for those fuckers with corner lots who pile snow up onto the little ramp that people use to get down to the street and cross.

I agree people should clear their sidewalks ASAP, but frankly you don't get to bitch about it unless you're disabled in which case it's actually a major imposition. Otherwise, buy some proper snow boots and you'll stay dry, warm, and the tread will provide traction like winter tires do for a car.

FWIW out here in Burnaby, they haven't touched the streets or sidewalks ever since the last snowfall so sidewalks near major intersections have a straight up layer of ice from partially melted then frozen snow. It's the kind you can slip on even with snow boots (which most people in Vancouver don't have anyway). I've seen people using ice scrapers to clear out sidewalks but it's on a per business basis.

I don't know about Calgary, but in Vancouver you (as in: the homeowner, landlord or permanent tennant in some cases) are liable for any accidents caused by ice left on the sidewalks outside your house, so it's in their best interests to clear it, quite apart from it being A Nice Thing To Do JawKnee fucked around with this message at 04:33 on Jan 5, 2017 |

I clear the ice and snow from my sidewalks, salt and sand etc. but I also wear grippers on my boots because I've lived through a winter before somehow? It's not a fight you're going to win and nobody cares enough about it to do more than tut or bitch online. I guess if you were a person who had just come to Canada and didn't understand how winter is, that's one thing but for Christ's sakes put on some grippers and quityer.

I know, we get that in Calgary too from time to time because of chinooks. It's pretty bad. People should also notice that I didn't say people should be excused from shovelling sidewalks, just that it isn't something that should affect you personally unless you have reduced mobility or are in a wheelchair or something. That's why it's very important that sidewalks be cleared of snow and ice, not so you can avoid buying proper footwear. EDIT: It's more the whininess of the "impossibility of walking through three inches of powder on top of ice" that pissed me off. People with disabilities get to complain about that, and rightfully so. If you're a person of near-average physical ability or above, you really should be able to manage that sort of thing without whining, regardless whether it's an rear end in a top hat move to not clear your sidewalk. I mean, I have well gripped winter boots, but that's because I'm a try-hard worrier that put my snow-shovel, cardboard, salt + sand in the car when the first flakes fell and had my winters on a month prior. I'm not going to defend Vancouverites for their short-sightedness when it comes to not preparing because, well, it's easy to do (if you have the means) but this is some weird weather we've been having the last couple weeks
