So Canelo is actually fighting on December 15th against Rocky Fielding at 168 in Madison Square garden. What a strange turn of events https://twitter.com/Canelo/status/1048297803594833920?s=19 https://twitter.com/MatchroomBoxing/status/1048297925074477056?s=19 The SituAsian fucked around with this message at 22:04 on Oct 5, 2018 |

Crazy, Canelo had a pretty massive cut from the GGG fight. I'd be surprised if it was fully healed by December; I can't imagine he'll get a lot of sparring in for this fight. Also this is a total belt grab. It's for the "WBA Regular" title, which basically means nothing, the WBA just decided that they're going to have two different belts in every weight class for some reason (greed). Rocky Fielding was knocked out in the first round by Callum Smith in their fight. Smith is the "Super WBA" champion and the rightful titlist of the WBA. That this will count as "winning a title in another weight class" is pretty nauseating. He'll drop back down to 160 as soon as he wins of course; hard to see him sticking around in a division where the best fighters are 6'3 and could easily be competing at 175.

Huh. I'm completely blindsided by this. I would have bet good money that Canelo would defend against Lemieux this december and that Rocky Fielding would get some bogus rematch with Callum Smith in the winter so he could do a big homecoming fight without much risk. This isn't really that exciting, but I guess I can't fault Canelo for staying busy. Going up in a weight against the guy who just knocked out Zeuge isn't that bad on paper, even if it's clear that they're on different levels and this won't really be competitive. I imagine the plan is to keep Alvarez fighting but in a relatively low risk fight, just as they've done in the past with fights like Khan and Chavez Jr. I think Canelo could smash up a few of the top168 pounders, given that it's a relatively weak division and he's actually got some decent size for a middleweight even if he's a bit short.

I'm pleasantly surprised actually Canelo actually make the comeback. Fielding isn't super elite or anything but he's a consensus top 10 guy in the division with only 1 loss in 1 round to (probably) the top guy at 168 with a lot of physical advantages on Canelo. If this were the Cinco De Mayo 2019 fight I'd be out in the streets with a pitchfork and torch but so long as it leads into a return at 160 against either Jacobs/Derevyanchenko winner, Saunders/Andrade winner, Jermall Charlo or maybe even a Mexican showdown with Zurdo than it's more than fine. I imagine it will be on Days Inn but I'd love if this could be HBO boxing's send off fight. But most of all congratulations to Fielding for getting PAID. #earnwithhearn no doubt. And hey, once Canelo beats Fielding they can become best bros and do a chicken fight against Jarrell Miller so that Miller can finally have an opponent of similar size https://twitter.com/BIGBABYMILLER/status/1048289627122094080 The SituAsian fucked around with this message at 00:24 on Oct 6, 2018 |

What a mismatch. Fielding was passed over as a WBSS reserve in favour of a kickboxer. And they'll market that belt like it means anything...

It's actually a really good deal if you're into combat sports at all since they are doing either a boxing or mma card-oftentimes both- pretty much every week. https://www.dazn.com

I was checking the DAZn schedule and was confused when I didn't see Saunders-Andrade on the schedule (I was aware of the drug situation but hadn't heard much) and now I see why since Massachusetts denied Saunders a boxing license so the fight is off. Andrade will fight for a vacant belt https://twitter.com/danrafaelespn/status/1049768530508488704?s=19 https://twitter.com/danrafaelespn/status/1049775430411214849?s=19 Edit: Saunders doing his best to ingratiate himself with commission officials https://twitter.com/MichaelBensonn/status/1049782107504091136?s=19 The SituAsian fucked around with this message at 23:10 on Oct 9, 2018 |

Well I guess Cigar Aficionado was correct that this fight was never going to happen. At least we're still seeing Andrade and his opponent is an untested African guy, so there's a wildcard chance this fight will be unexpectedly good.
|
# ? Oct 9, 2018 22:57 |

I can't get much info on the African guy at all, including his height. He may be 5'7 though, which is no good against the 6'1, fast and athletic Andrade. The guy is undefeated and seems to have big power, so he may be a live dog, but he's fought nobody outside of Africa, taking the fight on very short notice, and is basically a total enigma. I don't like his chances unless he's some sort of Ricardo Mayorga dark-horse.

# ? Oct 10, 2018 03:03 |

Yeah it's not a big chance, but sometimes you get good poo poo from these wildcard replacements. Srisaket Sor Rungvisai's resume before Gonzalez was atrocious. FWIW, he signed a contract as a replacement as soon as BJS's positive test broke, so he's been training for this fight for a bit.

Because I am the low content posting king I must inform you all of the hottest boxing business rumor that Pacquiao has signed with Al Haymon and will be fighting Broner and then the rematch with Mayweather next year. https://www.badlefthook.com/2018/10/11/17963434/manny-pacquiao-reportedly-signs-with-al-haymon

# ? Oct 11, 2018 19:35 |

That's actually kind of exciting imo. Broner's a good matchup, he's skilled enough to where he's not gonna be a walk over and Pacquiao is old enough to where Broner may actually have a shot at winning. If Pacquiao beats Broner convincingly it could help sell a Mayweather rematch as a competitive fight, along the lines of Manny had an off night the first time and wasn't at his best then. Makes sense from a business standpoint too. The only big fight Arum has for Manny is Crawford, and why fight Crawford when you could fight Floyd again for way more money? There's not much else besides maybe jumping up to 155 to challenge Canelo for a ninth weight class title at middleweight. With Haymon even outside a Floyd rematch, Manny has viable matches he could make with Garcia, Porter, Thurman, Spence and Khan.

Ugh, I’d watch Pacquiao vs Broner. In other news, Billy Joe Saunders has voluntarily vacated his WBO title, so the Andrade/Kautondokwa fight will assumably be for the full WBO middleweight title. This is great news for Andrade, getting a strap on him (assuming he beats this tiny African who’s never fought anybody). This will force him to be more active and may actually get him into big fights with Golovkin, Canelo, Charlo, etc.

the one thing i don't love about pac / broner is that broner might win. huh. actually, no, i don't hate broner more than that hyper religious dickhead. i like this fight.
