What do you think the odds are on it having anything taken from the Index, given how tight-lipped they're being on its actual specs?

Awesome!

Chubby Henparty posted:

It's a relatively short Chapter One 'experience' for the price, but it's a premium one. It gets the OT-feel well, and there's some nice 'gently caress yes star wars' moments like a star destroyer flying over your freighter and waking up in a holding cell to the wubwub droid. (apparently Vader makes his right hand man General Steve Blumious slop them out, lol)

The story and characters are pretty good, although I'm never really on board with chatty pal droids, they should be prissy like threepio or snotty like the ones he runs into.

But yeah you get a lightsaber and hang with Vader, its neat.
Does the Rift version also have the Lightsaber dojo? If so, I've gotten a shitload of game time out of that as well and definitely my money's worth. Currently on Level 39 out of 40.

They do. There's way more time to be spent here than on the actual story. Liked the story too, but definitely a bit shorter.

And I was right, they didn't redesign it to add one camera! They added two cameras. Color me surprised. They're both a part of the faceplate, I wonder if they're going to have different ones available at different prices. They showed it was removable as well.

On the S there's a noticeable dead zone if you have your hands straight down, that camera pointing down will definitely be useful

HTC has been pushing for Mixed Reality for awhile with the Dual cameras on Vive Pro, passthrough available to developers on Focus/Plus so maybe they explicitly wanted the two front cameras to be high quality RGB and exactly perspective correct (instead of slightly tilted).

I'm withholding judgement as I think I might make this + Snapdragon phone my development platform since at least HTC lets me publish on their mobile storefront.

Your potential userbase is almost certainly going to be laughably small, depending on which phones support the Cosmos.

It will also cover the Vive Focus Plus (since it should use Wave VR), and any future WaveVR 6Dof HMD / controllers. I'll also be able to release versions for Quest, however without being able to sell.

Having those two cameras in front will be nice for some games where your hands in front of your face is a thing (e.g. boxing).

I think the problem with the tracking in those cases isn't that the cameras can't see, it's that for some reason the algorithms that track can't keep up when they're that close to whatever they're tracking. It could certainly still help but I think it's a different problem. Like the S has those two front facing cameras and it can't track things that close very well.

So there was a rumor of a 899 euro price for the cosmos, which HTC came back and said was incorrect and higher than the price. I'm going to make my guess that it will be $699 usd, because too much cheaper and they might as well discontinue the vive, too much higher and it will eat into the vive pro.

Glad it finally has a release date, its looked pretty interesting since the original reveals. Their previous game, Wilson's Heart I really liked considering the limitations of no free movement, and very linear. Seeing their next have full movement and lots on non linear elements should hopefully make it pretty good.

It is a horror game, but its black and white and a love letter to 40's and 50's horror basically. Its about 5 or 6 hours long, and the puzzles are incredibly easy, but that said if you catch it on sale and go into it more with the expectation of a interactive story, than a difficult game, I think you'll enjoy it more. There isn't really any sort of... jump scares or things like that. Theres some, but mostly its atmospheric and stylistically a throw back. There are some action scenes and boss fights, but there not too hard.

I don't know, I really really liked it, and It certainly wasn't horror as in like, some FNAF or Resident evil type of thing, more like... a 40's themed lucas arts adventure game in VR. Theres a few parts, and one in particular that just do some absolutely lovely things with the medium of VR that you couldn't have done in any traditional game and get the same psychological effect.

Very early on you hear the teddy bear in the walls and then it jumps out and attacks a nurse you're talking to and it drags her out of a window and she screams as he kills her

And then an hour or so after that you're looking at a table and there's a page that says DON'T and when you flip it over it says LOOK UP and then as soon as you do the bear jumps out and it's right in front of your face

Those were enough for me to realize I was not having any fun at all so I stopped playing forever

Man, 360 3D video vr experiences are some low res poo poo. The nature of the panels and how 360 3D works makes it so it has to be an incredibly hi-res source (4K and up) to not look like blown out potato quality. Are there any sources for some really high quality downloadable 360 3D travel/trippy/thriller experiences, because all of the streaming options like youtube or oculus video really aren't up to snuff.

Which VR headset these days is optimal for FPS that can support them?

I’m suddenly having a lot of tracking issues with my Quest playing beatsaber. It just fails to register a swing multiple times per song on average now. Not sure if something changed on the system or I’m adapting my play style to move the controllers too far outside of the quest’s field of view. Changed the batteries since they were at 30 and 40 respectively but didn’t seem to make much difference.

Also, finally settled on a great set of custom songs and I can’t stop playing :B

Even after three years playing VR games with locomotion I still think you need to be some kind of super human to play doom in VR

That said I guess you'd just want the best screen, so a hp reverb maybe?

But seriously see if you can try playing doom in VR someplace first.

I dunno if this transfers to the Quest, but the S has noticeably worse tracking in the past week. If you whip your arms around as hard as you can your hand will fully drop out for a few seconds. Presumably they use the same algorithm so they might've tweaked it in a negative way.

This happens to me as well. I will be sure I hit a block and instead get a “miss” sound effect (and break my streak ).

What songs are you using? I am thoroughly enjoying Gangnam Style, Test Drive (from How to Train Your Dragon), Eye of the Tiger, Better When I’m Dancin, We Know the Way, Shake It Off, and I’ll Make a Man out of You. I just cannot get A rank on Unlimited Power on Expert difficulty on the Quest. Something about the way you play that song really causes problems with the Quest tracking. I am definitely feeling the same problems the rest of you are reporting. I'll miss simple notes in the same spot in the song unless I keep the controllers right in my face. I once had my left controller just give up tracking entirely for a couple seconds. I can't tell if I just suck a lot (I do) or if the tracking is just bonkers (it probably is).
