I'll Fetch My Sarcasm Robes

Very nearly done with my Shockjump Dragster, but you will notice that it doesn't have any wheels. I left the house for an hour and while I was gone my dog knocked the wheels off my desk, as per the rules once something is on the ground it is free game, so he chewed them to pieces. So I've had to order some aftermarket wheels and I'm waiting for them to arrive. One of my friends suggested modeling it on blocks.

Here is a pic of the perpetrator of the wheel theft.

The pawsting business is tough work.
Putting it on blocks is a fantastic idea, but impractical for a vehicle.

Convert a bunch of goblin spearmen so they're carrying it on poles.

Coming in late, but I like the skull as-is. I get highlighting it with some white, but it looks very good, and not at all out of place like it is now.

Progress for this evening on this Zuyong. Laid down some basecoats and got started on the black metal bits, then tried (and failed) to start blending in reds. For the life of me I just cannot figure out how to properly highlight red properly. I know the answer is just to add more saturation but it just doesn't click in my head and I just keep adding white instead of taking it up to straight red from reddish-brown.

Maybe I should just make them an easier to paint colour.

Painted up some old metal Dark Reapers that I've had in a drawer for god knows how long. I think these are the 3rd ed ones? Nice minis, quick to work on. VMC Black Grey is magic.

I'm intentionally being as verbose as possible in negotiations for my own amusement.
Finally finished putting way, way too much time into Liberator Prime here.

If i went again, i'd probably do the leather in a light blue-grey, maybe make the chestpiece and pauldrons ceramic too. But, this was fun to play around with.

I'm going to try to take some quality pictures of my models this week, but I wanted to show off my new ork buggy now that it's got wheels.

They're from Zinge Industries. They're exactly the right diameter, but the inner hubs are deeper than the stock wheels so it took a bit styrene tubing to adapt them.

Did a "quick" color test for my Stygies VIII AdMech army. Need a lighter gray for the pants and there is supposed to me more red around the chest/shoulder areas, but I think this'll work.

Haven't painted in ages but these Primaris Marines were calling to me, so here are the Amethyst Paladins (AKA the Easter Marines[AKA the PASTEL BIG BOYS])

Dark Imperium Hellblasters

Dark Imperium Inceptors (seriously though, gently caress these things, holy poo poo)

Dark Imperium Lieutenants and Ancient

Dark Imperium Intercessors 1

Dark Imperium Intercessors 2

Some expensive assed single pose models

Dark Imperium Gravis Captain (I'm super proud of this one, probably the best thing I've ever painted)

This will probably be the first army project I'll actually 'finish' since I did some Blindwater WMH gators like 5 years ago. I think I'm gonna do some Agressors next, and at some point I need to figure out how to paint swords because I clearly have no idea how to make them look decent.

I'm loving those pink bois! They turned out very smooth.

I painted up a big rear end regiment of skeletal halfling archers (plus a couple of mascots) the other day, pretty happy with them (though I may go back over them and give them glowing eyes like some of my older undead stuff, not decided yet):

Plus a necromancer lady and her butler to lead them (the frogs I painted ages back, I just rebased them to go with my forest friends):

And finally a small witch coven, halfling warlock and a very talented succubus:

Finished up my Skitarii for the most part, still have to do the special weapons, fill in some details, and then shade and base them. I was worried the color scheme wasn't going to work after testing on the first guy, but seeing them all done up makes me like it a lot more.

I mounted all the Bloodreavers and some heroes on roofing nails like i saw on a video. Then I sliced up a cardboard box and turned them into painting stands (nails go into the corrugation spaces).

This allowed me to spray prime from every angle with Army Painter Barbarian Flesh or Duplicolor Red Primer.

Took about 2 hours all said and done (nails were glued on last night).

The Bloodreavers are getting dipped, and the nails will be thrown into a power drill to spin off the excess.

Fun Fact about Vallejo Black Lava: if you spread it fairly thin and roll it flat, it makes excellent asphalt when drybrushed.

Baby you can shout at me,
But you can't need my eyes.
I have garbage brush control and tbh it’s something that I’m unlikely to want to spend enough time getting good at, so a lot of my focus goes to trying to find something that looks half decent with my execution skills.

I like this space man style, I still need to go back and touch up a couple of bits (detail on the severed head, cleaning up the bits of rust that went onto the black bits of the bolter, maybe another highlight on the tentacles) and it’s something I could probably replicate for an army, so I’m happy with it :unsmith:

I have no idea if I toxxed in this thread. Consider this my toxx complete post if I did.
This is 2 posts in one, a few things I just finished from what happened in CA18 and Vigilus, and then a retrospective on 2018.

Vigilus gave me a specialist detachment, the siegebreakers, and finally a release of a gravis armor character so I could make a gravis captain that didn’t look the same as everyone elses. Primarneus Calgar is a really great kit.

Along with the captain come the supporting apothecary and ancient:

The fat boys themselves:

Filling out the detachment are a couple of laser vindicators:

Finally, the detachment as a whole:

CA18 gave me power fists for my intercessor sergeants, so I knocked out a couple of them to replace my existing sergeants as well as another squad of 5 guys.

Now, with that out of the way, my 2018 retrospective:
About 115 models (I’m not sure exactly, thanks to time dilation this year has lasted literally forever and I can’t remember when I painted a few things)
Before 2018 my only Imperial Fist was a single squad of cataphractii that I did for a color test. I’ve built it up to somewhere around 6000 points, plus some custodies and knights.

This clicks through to big

In addition to the Fists I painted a handful of Blood Angel units, including an Astraeus, but they didn’t make sense (or fit) in with the same photo.

Here are my favorite models of the year, in no particular order:

We also had 2 great PNW hamslams this year:
Spring 2018
Fall 2018 Armies
Fall 2018 Gameplay

Looking into 2019, I want to get enough scenery painted up to do a full board, paint up my AT maniple, and paint a full size reaver. I also want to try to reduce my backlog, at this point I think I own nearly everything I could want for my Fists, barring any new releases, so I want to get it all painted before making more purchases (excepting a few upcoming releases for titanicus). I was able to take 2nd and 3rd place at a couple local tournaments this year, and I’d like to try to get up to taking 1st, though that may mean painting up some guard.

Not shown; the other two attempts that have a date with the Dettol once it arrives. Grey will be a normal NMM light metal, black panels will remain so, with appropraite shading/highlighting and maybe a bit of blue. Tan is the basis for NMM gold.
