Yo SRM, interested in a game of 40k? I was supposed to backpack 80 miles of the Appalachian Trail, but partner had to cancel and now I might be planning on Boston as a backup trip. I can pack your pick of army to fight.

Might even be able to slap paint on my latest guys, below:

Squat Iron Ancestor (Grey Knights Venerable Dreadnought), three Catachan snipers (Eldar Pathfinders) and Catachan deathworld assault squad member (Eldar Striking Scorpion).

Yeah, that's a very specific wording that's different from most other rules. Having just picked up the Cult Mechanicus book I know they could have worded it like the Kastelan shield, which is more fair. Not sure if it's intentional or just GW doing its usual inconsistent thing. Probably the latter. :/

This is actually kind of important, since other rules specify that the shot keeps whatever special properties it may have had and this doesn't. So you get a free Glance on a vehicle from boltguns, but at least your Multimelta shot is only going to be S8 against your Land Raider or whatever.

Not that you'll ever play against this monstrosity in a real game.

The problem is that AP doesn't matter at all for Glances. Reflecting a Heavy Stubber round is just as devastating as reflecting a Vanquisher Cannon.

Pask shooting into one of these things is basically death for his squadron.

The Rampart doesn't seem that great considering that it has quite a large footprint that can't even move through a forest but it looks like an individual Shieldline will be pretty useful because of overpowered reflection ability. You pay 10 points more than an ADL for a shorter, less versatile wall (in terms of placement) with that ability but who knows, maybe it will be able to move in a way similar to the Rampart.

Moving definitely seems like a Rampart "formation" only thing, since the rules for the individual pieces are detailed seperately.

But the whole thing doesn't have to be connected. You can make a V with the shieldlines and keep the dronepooper and the gunshoota behind the V, and drive this long wedge down into the enemy's territory. Very Warhammer-ish!

I dunno, most tables seem to have enough terrain that even that kind of setup would have trouble finding room to advance. I'd think the more common use would be to move your whole gunline (well all of it that you can actually fit onto the platforms) back six inches, considering that they are defence lines and thus vulnerable to close combat units.

Considering it cannot move within an inch of enemy models it seems pretty simple to block it in with specially deployed units and reduce Tau mobility even further. It has a lot of perks but considering it doesn't do anything to hinder assaults and reduces the amount of Tau guns by a decent margin it's just doubling-down on their greatest weakness. It's very Tau.

:siren:There is a very unstable situation on the ground... that is unfolding very quickly.:siren:

I have been building a moderate Guard force with Mantic Corporation troopers to look like Nod Soldiers for a while. I have never actually played a single game with them though. But one day I might field the 100ish people I painted... :all ears:
I have priests, special weapons etc etc. I think I could field a decent Vet army if I ever got some chimeras painted up. I hate vehicles though.

If anyone has some 3rd party lemanruss sponson bits they know of I am interested. I got some cheap plastic tanks from ebay or something that I want to use for my Nod Guard but without sponsons the project was a waste of time. The GW sponson bits are too big to fit on these (too 'tall'), and I am a bit of a stickler for making my count as armies match the silhouette best I can. I already had to assemble these vehicles, that were more chimera sized, in a strange way in order to make them match the size of a russ.

Edit: Got the lyrics slightly wrong. Thanks MSP.

When that becomes available again, in whatever form it may take, the same thing is going to happen. Everyone in the stores I've been to couldn't stop ranting about them, either how awesome they think they'll be or how cheesy they think they'll be (and how they wish they could afford them, even if just to diversify terrain a bit).

Edit: vvvv Yeah, that's basically half the reason people are raving about them. The idea of official terrain that isn't Imperial (and that moves!) really makes them excited to field it, even if the rules wouldn't exactly be in a player's favor.

I don't know if I'd ever actually use one with its in-game rules, but if I had Tau you bet your rear end I'd get that just so they'd have some terrain to play on.

Please, it's industrial buttrock.

Also, time for more 'Ardboyz. I painted them in a more "uniform" style after painting every guy completely different in the last squad, and aside from the shot where you can see a bunch of them wearing the same pants it's not noticeable at all when they're all mobbed up. Once I divide the various boyz around various squads, they'll be a right and proper rabble without me going insane having to paint every guy distinctly and without batch painting.
