I'm also annoyed because this is going to make fitting them into my store's X-Wing wall harder. I spent an hour or two last week rearranging things to fit Guns for Hire and the next wave in, expecting clamshell packs. It looks really beautiful! Where the gently caress am I supposed to fit two more box expansions now?

Well, it was fun buying X-Wings. Can't wait to see that the next Destiny expansion is mysteriously retailing for $7-8 a pack so I can stop buying that also! Doubling the price of your products is an interesting marketing strategy and I don't see how it could fail.

The price thing is the first Xwing complaint I can't find any grounds to disagree on. The silencer is exactly what I wanted, though. A high PS ace with enough HP to eat a bomb or two. I expected something between a Defender and a Phantom, and it seems that is probably what we got. No anti-bomb tech is mystifying though.

Rumors is that the TIE Silencer has new templates in the box for movement. If that's true, I can see the new A-Wing being a big box too. That said I'd just buy the Silencer for the cards. The ship itself seems like it'd be a side-grade of a TIE Defender.

I gave it some thought and I'm not terribly worried about what the Resistance Bomber is doing for bombs. Can launch a bomb with a 5 maneuver ruler? Eh. Nothing I haven't seen done similarly with Bombardier or Emon Azzameen. More bombs to deploy with the Silo? Been done before with Extra Munitions. I guess what I'm saying is that we all keep thinking that the upcoming Wave whatever is doom and gloom, but we adapt. Clever uses of upgrades come along, making the game fun again. Now you won't have to actually get past your opponent to launch bombs. What this does is make it really loving hard to be bomb-proof because flying close to the edge of the map doesn't help anymore.

As an aside, would there be a way to make bombs and ordnance good? Because it's seems to be either overpowered and unfunny, or trash.

For bombs, maybe an Autothruster-esque modification, but that's just another upgrade tax to spend squad points on.

Bombs should be an attack.

I worry if you slap an ATTACK label on bombs it will not play well with other abilities and gameplay elements (e.g. Gunner) without having those interactions be re-written as well. It pains me to admit that I attempted making homebrew rules to "fix" ordnance by making missiles and torpedoes physical tokens that move around the board. I hit a brick wall when, logically, deploying a missile would be considered an "ATTACK" but when no dice are rolled it became an insurmountable ordeal to figure out. Throwing a Weapons Disabled token on a ship that drops bombs might be a more elegant solution, with possible modifications/titles to allow you to attack after pooping out a bomb. Though, I fear that might be an overcorrection in itself.

I could see either some kind of Mineseeker Missile or Torp being used to blow up unexploded mines.

is it bad homebrew/rules time? I THINK IT IS At the end of the movement phase, all ships that have a bomb token in their firing arcs may roll attack dice equal to their primary weapon value. If any roll results in any combination of two or more [hit] or [crit] results, remove the bomb token from play. It does not detonate or resolve any effects.
|
# ? Sep 10, 2017 03:32 |
|
Would an upgrade card that is in effect: If an opponents mine token is placed within range 1, you may take a free action work out? You could even word it to allow the action before a mine token would resolve, depending on how strong that might be. My thoughts are that nimble fragile ships are most at risk for bombs. This would give them a way to possibly avoid the effects of any bomb dropped after they move. It also wouldn't reward ships without reposition options that are intended to be weak to bombs. But it would also force any ptl or other stress related ships to carefully consider if they want to be stressed and risk eating a mine.

1 point mod - when you would take damage from a bomb, roll dice equal to your agility and reduce damage by 1 for each evade rolled.

Skurrg (Nym) + Dengar (jumpmaster) is really good. Protectorate Starfighter (Fenn Rau) is good, but weak to bombs (Nym) Honestly if you got one of each of those, you'd have most of the really good stuff in the faction.

So, I'm doing an escalation tournament on Sat, and running three lists tonight at my FLGS to figure out which faction. In Brief, all these are the 60 points building block. I'm trying to decide which is most fun to fly. 1. Intensity Poe with a prototype pilot. 2. O'Leader and Inquisitor 3. Fenn Rau, Sunny bounder with light syck, Cartel with light syck.

Theoretically they are doing actual testing of the FAQ, and not publishing it because of what they're seeing. Or they're just working on X-Wing 2.0. Has anyone flown anything they'd call "fun" over the past couple weeks? I'm struggling on what to bring tonight. There's been a decent amount of RAClo and Rebel Nym. Just looking for some inspiration in an otherwise less than fun meta.

I'm participating again in this year's Phoenix Squadron Championships, this time with 108 players! Format is you're grouped in pods of 4 players, and over the next month and a half play each of the three opponents twice for a total of 6 games. The 27 pod winners get a guaranteed spot in the final, a double-elimination bracketed 32 player tournament that takes place over a weekend. The prize support is always great (it's what the THIS IS FINE crit tokens were created for). Anyway, the pod format is hangar bay, each provides 2 lists which they reveal simultaneously. My List 1, Rebel Alpha and My List 2, Mirandash. I'm probably better at Mirandash, but I've also never lost a game with Rebel Alpha. My opponents are: Bryan with List 1, Rey and Poe and List 2, Weird Brobots. I know in advance that he strongly prefers the Rey list, and is actually kinda bad at brobots. Nathan with List 1, Nym and pals and List 2, Imperial Aces Gerard with List 1, Dengar/Fenn/N'Dru and List 2, VI Fenn and bus? Bryan and Nathan are both pretty good players, but I'm pretty sure I can beat them. Not worried at all about Gerard, he's a new player who is building his own lists that don't look very good (VI on Fenn Rau? Why?) For Bryan's matchups, assuming I pick Mirandash. I could probably beat the Falcon in the damage race if I get two early turns of combat with both Miranda and Dash shooting on the falcon. Even if I trade Dash for Rey, I will be ahead on points and can just run from Poe all day. If he picks brobots, I have a PS advantage and can arcdodge all day, though Miranda is going to struggle to stick damage with TLTs on brobots with autothrusters. I don't like the odds here. If I pick Rebel Alpha, I could get the falcon down to 3-4 hull in the first volley of shooting, and I likely only take one shot from Rey before she dies because Horton's TLTs can solo her at that point. Then I don't have an answer for Poe, because unless I get all guns on target in the same round, I'm not going to stick damage on him with regen/autothrusters. With the brobots, I can erase one before it even fires, then have Horton kturn and pull of the shields on the second one. I think that game would last 20 minutes. I think that either of my lists does OK here. I think Mirandash is the better choice for Rey, and Rebel Alpha is the better choice for Brobots. I think he's more likely to pick Rey, so I think Mirandash is my answer. On Nathan, assuming Mirandash. For his first list, if I can stay at R3 I can pop the HWK in 2 or 3 rounds of shooting (it's easy to range control the HWK). I need Dash to be the damage dealer on Nym, because Miranda can't outbomb Nym. If he chooses Imperial Aces, none of them have autothrusters and I can control range and pop them, no problem. If I pick Rebel Alpha, I can erase Nym in the first round of shooting, except I may struggle to get the target locks. If I don't stick the alpha, Nym and Torkil will kill my list fast. Rebel Alpha can pskill Vessery in one round, but then I have possibly tough matchup vs. the rest of them. I think this one is doable. I'm thinking Mirandash is the better choice for Nym, and either Alpha or Mirandash will do fine with the Imperial aces. I think in both cases, I'm better of leading with Mirandash, and assuming I win, I can switch to the alpha list if I expect my opponent will switch. Does that all sound right?

I like using intensity Poe with BB-8, Prime Thrusters and Black One title with Intensity Jake and Jan Ors. I like arc dodging, and that extra attack die from Jan is keen. TIE Strikers are fun as hell, even if they go down like a wet fart sometimes. a goofy list I use sometimes is Echo, Whisper, and Pure Sabbac. Can't min/max the phantoms, but whatevs.

Thanks for the ideas all. I'm not crazy enough to buy multiple Phantoms, let alone 5 Strikers. I kinda like the idea of Echo, Duchess, and someone else just to play with lots of pre-maneuver movement though. I played ConfusedUs' Lothal/Rey list for a weekend, as I do with all of his lists. I went 2-1 both nights (my forever record), somehow playing against an actual TIE Defender both nights (both of my losses). There's a ReyNym list I've been looking at that puts Ion Cannon Turret on Nym. Sounds like fun, but then I'm flying Nym so...
