Until we see the growth commission's report the plan would seem to be sterlingisation, so using the pound like Panama uses the USD before phasing in a Scottish Pound pegged to GBP. Using the transition period to create our own central bank etc. It seems at this stage that the recommendation being anything other than a Scottish Pound pegged to sterling is quite unlikely. That's assuming sterlingisation doesn't blow us up before we get to that point.

Being pegged to a much larger economy's currency is a terrible idea. Scotland is a net exporter so actually could sustain its own currency without too much fuss. That being said independence is still a terrible idea for basically all the other reasons ever.

Peg it to the euro and then adopt the euro, and also remain in the EU.

keep punching joe posted:Yeah, can't wait to sink into the sea with the rest of you cunts, just because England/Wales has gotten a bee in it's bonnet about too many foreigners. having a monetary policy that aligns with state interest is a huge part of how nations wield power. it's arguably the single most powerful financial tool there is - you want one of these. a monetary policy against state interest by design is one of those bafflingly awful ideas (and implementations) that could only be a product of a mind so riddled by neoliberalism that it secretly believes we're like fifteen minutes behind tng. things like greece will always happen forever - it's borderline hard to believe it's not supposed to. it's not just that it's a terrible idea it's a terrible idea demonstrably - we have a library of evidence to prove it's a terrible idea! it is one of those things that is relative so it will always be true no matter how badly brexit goes- we have hosed ourselves royally but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to gently caress yourself royally twice.

If we think every Scot means every Scot of working age which these things usually mean then that's a boost of £14,563,200,000 which is ~8.6% of GDP if they mean literally every Scot then that's more like 13% of GDP. In context the GDP growth in 2017 was 1.1% which put the numbers there in the realms of absolutely loving ludicrous. Obviously the National is framing it as every person will be £4100 better off but I think it's a safe bet to assume they're actually taking about in increase in GDP. Though perhaps it's 13% over 10 years or something which would be near to bang on for 1.1% growth year on year of course.
