I know we say this every time Aldis does a match but it's completely damning that he looks the way he does and can't get work anywhere, even in WWE where his wife works, where they scoop up every possible talent, and have so little emphasis on workrate that Jinder Mahal, Nia Jax, Lana, and Baron Corbin have been pushed talents.

NOAH N-1 Victory (18/09) MOTYC Masaaki Mochizuki vs Kaito Kiyomiya Kenoh vs Katsuhiko Nakajima HM Go Shiozaki vs Manabu Soya Wow, what a show. Mocchy is more than twice Kiyomiya's age and he manages to keep up every step of the way. And of course Kenoh/Katsu was great, just because they're both in Kongoh doesn't stop them beating the piss out of each other.

Wrong place for discussion but I’ll drop this here because I’m sure I’ll quote it again: He’s super ego driven and his entire gimmick is “I’m a champion.” He literally has no character when he doesn’t have a belt. Never really has at all. He can’t get work anywhere else because he won’t work with anybody else unless he’s going over. That’s really it. If he were more humble, things would be different. For the sake of the topic, I wish things were different because he is a great promo as a champion (and that’s it). But his match with Bennett was awful and the camerawork certainly didn’t help. I’ll also nth WMOTYC for Aldis v. Bennett as I just finished watching it.

Dude is one of this amazing crowd of wrestlers who are 50 or over & still go at an insane level. There's an absolutely dope Mochi vs Shingo Takagi Dragon Gate match from 2015 which is an all-timer.

Obviously the main thin is that it was just a badly wrestled and badly produced match, but it blows me away how poorly they spent their money here. A competent director and crew could make this set look just fine. I've seen shows that looked better than this filmed in high school gyms.

WMOTYC: Nikki Cross vs. Lacey Evans - WWE Smackdown 9/18 Normally I'd relegate this kind of nothing match on a nothing show to the dustbin of history where it belongs, but holy gently caress this was atrocious on every single level: from the build to the wrestling to the storyline to the commentary to the camerawork to the reffing to the matchflow to the psychology to the aftermath to everything. Just utter garbage.

Cobb is real good when they let him play to his strengths. The match just now is actually a very good microcosm of that, it dragged when they had him sell his leg for too long and became great when he could just cut loose and go full monster hoss.

MOTYC: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Minoru Suzuki - NJPW G1 Climax 30 Night 9/19 This match was exactly what you think it is. Neither guy did anything different than they normally do in their matches against each other. Why should they? What they usually do is have some of the best matches in the world, after all, and that's what they did YET AGAIN in this match. Ishii could teach a masterclass in when to sell and when not to, and Minoru Suzuki is Minoru Suzuki.

MOTYC: Shingo Takagi vs. Switchblade Jay White - NJPW G1 Climax 30 9/19 What a match! Switchblade was right back to his sleazy best, Shingo ruled as always, the face/heel dynamic could not have been clearer, the crowd was hot as hell in spite of all the restrictions on how they can react, and even the requisite interference spots and ref stuff worked beautifully into the story of the match. Commentary losing their loving minds helped a bunch too.
