The accumulated filth of all the dog poop and hairballs will foam up about their waists and all the catladies and dog crazies will look up and shout "Save us!"
... and I'll look down and whisper
"No."

Conures unite! :3:

The stuff that my friends use is called Stop Powder, there're several brands but they all seem pretty legit to me if they're sold in a pet store/vet. And yes Battle Pigeon is right, cornstarch can work amazingly well. A friend accidentally cut like nearly half of her lovebird's nail off and cornstarch fixed it right up after a while.

Unfortunately birds just like biting/checking out interesting and shiny things, it's what they do. When he starts biting you can just remove him and place him on a perch.

Kwik Stop for Birds is another brand. It's just another styptic powder.

the people said he came with a cage. the cage was a tiny parakeet cage so crammed with toys you couldn't see him, so i took toys out cleaned it up and he hangs out on top sometimes. I need to get him a new cage/play area ASAP. Suggestions appreciated

Also I found a giant winter sock to put over my cast, so no more toe eating.

I painted my nails with orange and purple once (half moon mani wooooo) and Loo spent a very careful time peeling off only the orange. Purple was too boring to play with I guess.

My nails are holographic metalic sparkle color and it's irresistable.

Fry is learning to love MY BOYFRIEND, too. But we had a bit of a crisis earlier when I wasn't home and he let Fry out and couldn't get him from off the top of the cage. I got a phone call "WHY DOES HE KEEP BITING ME?"

I need to get Fry a cage. Any suggestions of places to get a good cage and what size is good for a GCC. He's pretty small, but how big do they get on average(the bird not the cage)? I'd just say go big, but I'm worried he'll be overwhelmed. thoughts? Link me to places to get good bird cages and good bird toys/loot or even DIY birdsafe-fun things. I've been looking around online, but it seems hit or miss. I literally saw a link earlier that said "COCKTAIL Parrot Cages" - That's what all you derp owners have right? Cocktail parrots?

He ate a piece of mango tonight and enjoyed every minute. We think part of his problem with biting guys more than girls is possible mishandling by the previous owners son, but hopefully we can train him out of that too.

sorry for laming up the bird crazy thread with Fry chat. I'm just an excited new bitey creature owner.

It's plenty tall and pretty wide, perfect for a conure that will undoubtedly walk across the ceiling more often than not. It also goes on sale for sub-$200 and usually has free shipping.

I'm looking at a cage tomorrow for Fry. I forget the exact measurements of the two, but it was owned/well cared for by it's owner who has a large flock himself. He built cages for his birds and no longer needs these. Seems like a quick fix if he can't wiggle thru the cage bars and the two cages I have to choose from are in nice shape (at least, guy said they were). He doesn't want very much for them and that's in my budget at the moment, so maybe at the very least an upgrade until I can get Fry a fancy place.

I'm sorry about not enough pics of Fry, but he won't seem to hold still very long. So most of my pictures are Fryblurs. I will work on this again later.

If you buy a used cage, make sure you disinfect it well before you put Fry in it. You don't want him catching anything from the previous bird tenants. I would suggest washing it with bleach solution, rinsing it, then leaving it out in the sun for the rest of the day.

I went to visit a Lilac-Crowned Amazon that the current owner needs to give up for adoption because the place she is moving to will not allow a parrot.

They think it's a female but haven't actually done DNA testing.

She's extremely quiet, and though a bit timid was also friendly and after I'd given her a walnut stepped up. Apparently does not bite, is perfectly gentle with the 7-year old they have, and even runs around the ground with the cats. She apparently never bites--she never even made an attempt to beak me or nip, instead just making a quiet squawk and pulling away when she didn't want to be touched/picked up.

They'd apparently rescued her from a bird-hoarder's house. Sounded like about a year ago? They believe she is around 5 years old but can't be sure. They switched her to a pellet-and-veggies diet immediately, though you can see from the pictures the black banding on her feathers indicates a pretty poor diet from before that, probably birdseed.

The owner was actually surprised how quickly the bird took to me--she stepped up quickly, and while I held her and talked to her and the current owner she was burbling happily, something the owner says she only does when she's quite happy.

Again, she is super quiet. She apparently just likes to chill on her perch all day around people, though she also wanted to get up on my shoulder (something I didn't allow since I don't know her very well).

So, what do you guys think? Should I adopt her? Think she and Alexis won't hate each other? They won't be competing for the same kind of attention, of course.

She clearly needs a good bath (sounds like she only gets a shower about once per week) and needs a vet to take a look at that snaggily feather on her wing. I doubt she's been to a vet in a long time, the person who owns her currently is clearly not very high income.

She sounds wonderful, but my primary concern would be Alexis. It sounds like he loves you a lot, and while I don't know about duskies specifically, conures in general can get incredibly pouty and jealous. So, you know. But if your heart is set on another bird she does sound perfect.

It must be nice to meet a bird that doesn't want to beak everything you own and love.

Needy conures in the house tonight
Little birdies wanna have a good time
If you ignore us you will lose your mind
We will scream but 'stead let's have a good time

'Cause we just wanna see you -- scritch that.

In mah cage, fix it up, we need some more toys,
gently caress is up? Deserve everything that we look at, huh
Jingly-balls rattling but we need some mah'
Millet? Berries too,
Fix that poo poo up or I'll scream at you
Green camouflage, bitey though,
Control those humans, conure oh!

Yo!
I'm running from your hand 'cause I know
I misbehaved hard but gently caress you I ain't no
Little budgie gonna beg for you to forgive me!
Gonna rocket 'cross the room, bite your face and you'll let me!
Hey!

Needy conure in the house tonight!

If you ignore us you will you lose your mind
We will scream but 'stead let's have a good time

Birdo!

'Cause we just wanna see you -- scritch that.

Every day I'm cuddlin'.
Cuddlin', cuddlin'.

Step up fast but just 'cuz you're gonna reward me, yeah
We get walnuts, yeah, and don't stop -- or I'll bite you bad

Gonna snuggle up
(I love you oh)
I see you got a treat
(I want it though)
You're my baby
(Don't ask me how)
I know you'll share with me
(You give it now)

Step up, step down, yeah sure I will spin around
Got a seed, just give it now
Step up!
Bird just step up!

'Cause every day I'm cuddlin'.

Everyone interested in a larger bird should have an amazon as far as I'm concerned. BTW, this thread has been lacking in non-conure based pictures lately!

EDIT: Just talked to the vet and based on the info I gave them and my plan for keeping the birds in separate rooms for the first few weeks (especially pending blood and stool samples from the Amazon) they think things will work out fine, so I'm probably going to move forward with the adoption process once I've gotten moved into the new apartment. :iamafag:
EDIT2: Also just talked to a bird rescue expert on facebook who thinks this is a good idea and that it will go fine. :)

Went to the Bird Store yesterday to get Iro some food for her fat face.
So many lovely birds there, aughhh. They rotate the birds constantly so they all get a chance to be right at eye level and out on the socialising perches. One African Grey kept making I WANT TO SIT WITH YOU gestures, but he was in his cage. There was another called Belle who was a bald-eyed cockatoo or something, who'd say HELLO in the most pleasant old lady voice ever and then beg for head rubs by slamming her neck on the door of the cage and looking back with that stupid derpy :> that birds do.

Also Iro is pretty good. She likes to say 'Chuff' a lot and we don't know why. She loves it when I grab her beak between my finger and thumb and vibrate her head. She will waddle up to me and stick her beak there in the hopes that I'll do it.

She also likes to stare at me and masturbate. Sigh.

Iro thinks she is being clever by suppressing her moans of ecstasy when she's right next to me. However I can always tell because I get the feeling as if I am having holes bored into me, and she makes little held-breath gasps as well as just having her stupid birdgina pressed up against the bars or the crook of her perch and the wall. It's very human in a weird way and pretty gross.
When she's just in the hall she is a full on moaning screamer. It's really... It's really an experience. An experience she continually forces me to be a part of.

MY LIFE FOR YOU!
So Simon is doing very well with us. He is just the happiest little bird, and he is super snuggly. He recently discovered that the floor is not lava and that if he jumps off his playpen after going poop and waddles over to the couch, he can climb his way up and get more snuggles. Don't worry, we are aware of where his is at all times. He has also discovered that the pockets on my robe are super fun to play in, same with the sleeves.

The poor guy seems to be molting though, so there are feathers everywhere, and he is extremely interested in getting scritches now, something we are more than willing to provide. Of course, Arielle's ability to type has been severely hampered by our little feathered ball of love, as she can't resist when he works his way into her hands and goes to sleep. We are so glad that we decided to get a Conure instead of a Cockatiel.

Also, we have discovered that he doesn't really care about any music what so ever, unless it is metal. He absolutely goes nuts and dances around and chirps when Flyleaf comes on. He also loves when we sing to him.

Here he is on my shoulder.

And on Arielle's shoulder.

And climbing around on his cage, which he doesn't like as much as playing Shadow of the Colossus on his humans.

I do have a question though. We are planning on getting a Christmas tree this year. What is the procedure and hazards of having a bird and a Christmas tree? Besides no tinsel of course, since that stuff is nasty.

Adorbs. Christmas trees... Chances are Simon will be terrified of it, so there's nothing to worry about. I think the only thing you have to worry about is if Simon really enjoys it, there's potential that he could get sap all over his little feets and feathers. That's it really, just supervise if he's going to be playing in it.

Over the long weekend we went to the local aquarium, which has a huge outdoor aviary filled with 40-50 rainbow lorikeets. They all free fly, and you can purchase little cups of nectar to feed them. The last time we went, it was before we got Ritz, so we were a little intimidated, but this time we were all YAY BIRDS! Throughout this aviary, there's waterfalls, little huts for them to cool off in, misters and toys. Holy crap the toys, plastic chains, balls and chewy stuff everywhere. We were talking to one of the main handlers there, who was holding a particular bird she called "George". He was very nice and stepped up immediately, was very docile and didn't really seem like one of the flock. She said they get nectar throughout the day and fruits for breakfast and dinner. They love their birds :3:

Anyway, on to the good stuff.

We asked about this one, he was a juvenile and also a plucker, but she said he hadn't been plucking and his feathers are starting to re-grow, which is good! Also, he was rather cute.

This is where they cooled off and got fed real food, and did nesty stuff.

This is George, he was very sweet and didn't want to be put down, even after the nectar was gone.

This is not George, this was a bird that wanted nectar and nothing else.

And finally, these guys both came out of the hut when I extended my hand for them to land on. It really was the :3: est thing.
