Does anyone have any tips for cool software to help with learning and playing along with songs? For reference, the last time I really did this was in like 2004 when I would load up my metallica tab on mxtabs then use Winamp with the "Pacemaker" plugin to change speed and pitch. Just really cutting edge stuff. I also played Rocksmith a bit a few years ago which was really cool, but I'd like something a bit more flexible. I can kind of imagine what my dream software would be. It probably doesn't exist but maybe I can tick off a few of these things? 1) load up my mp3 file (probably downloaded from youtube or something) 2) set speed and pitch so I don't have to retune my guitar as much 3) loop through hard bits (like the riff repeater in rocksmith but more flexible) 4) integrate the tab somehow?? I know 1-3 are probably possible with any good DAW but they're always so fuckin complicated. I don't really need to edit or record so I just want something really simple.

audacity does all that minus the tab part

I think Songsterr does the last three if you pay for it, but you'll have to settle for MIDI versions of the songs.

Justin Guitar uses this one and I think it checks off all the boxes except the tab. Instead it tries to help detect the pitches. https://www.seventhstring.com/xscribe/screenshots.html

I would have bought a Muse series SG too if I hadn't already got a G400 Pro, those look really nice. But the batwing P90's got my money.

I stumbled across this youtube guitarist a while ago. He was in a motorized wheelchair and instead of fretting normally, he played with his left hand inverted. Does anybody know who I'm talking about? He was really good and played a lot of blues and almost Satriani-inspired stuff. Captain Apollo posted:My blue burst 335 (FF338) is up on Amazon. Just FYI, I think this is a different finish than then one you have (because I also have the same one.) This is the Blue Burst, while the one you and I have is called Transparent Blue. You can tell the difference because the Blue Burst has a black back, neck and sides while the Trans Blue is blue all over. Blue blue blue blue blue.

Hard to overstate how much more I enjoy playing the instrument, especially as someone who abuses bends, once my hands have had a few months to callus up. Too bad it takes a while to get there, and you need to keep it up or you lose it fairly fast. The stuff Guthrie is doing in some of these bends is a real ouch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tELIgr96WcM

Thank you folks. I feel weird ordering something from Germany, but secondhand local has been dreadful for me because I'm left handed and several months of trolling craigslist and FB marketplace hasn't yielded anything. (Side note: has anyone managed to buy anything from FB marketplace, every single purchase attempted falls apart in ways that just doesn't occur with craigslist) I was actually eye-balling that explorer, but may probably end up getting one of their hollow body situations. The youtube reviews all tout their bang for buck bonafides.

I already have one floyd rose guitar though and I really don't need another. I'm in this weird place where I kinda want a more expensive guitar with a dumb 2-point tremolo... is that basically just Fenders? Looks like Jackson and Ibanez (my usual favorites) tend to swap to Floyd Roses as soon as you spend more than a few hundred bucks. I want a real nice superstrat but with a 2-point trem, not a complete hard-tail but not a floyd rose. Anybody got some good reccs?

Some of the Charvel DK24s come with a Gotoh trem but are otherwise shred machines. Only reason I don't own one is that the gotoh versions just come in roasted maple, and apparently it's really iffy as to whether you can scallop roasted maple without destroying it. Edit: I'm also not really looking for another Floyd guitar but the HM strat is iconic as gently caress, and it's the only 24 fret "real" strat that has ever been made. It’s funny because as much as I absolutely CRAVE that pink superstrat I’ll never actually buy it because I know better to ever buy a non hardtail again. I need to tattoo “you’ll never enjoy a trem or playing through a computer stop trying to force it you moron” on my forehead.

Every single one of my floyds is blocked at the moment so I sympathize. Buuuut, as someone who learned to play for years on either strat style bridges or tune-o-matics, the fine tuners *really* gently caress with my hand placement/pick slanting/palm muting. I don't have a problem with the low profile Floyds or Edges though, since the fine tuners are placed differently. I have no idea if any of those are a drop in replacement for whatever trem is in the HM strat but I bet I could get it routed without spending too much cash.

fuf posted:Does anyone have any tips for cool software to help with learning and playing along with songs? Sorry for the double post but it's not letting me auto-quote in a reply and I am lazy. Anyway: Buy Guitar Pro. You can find GPro tabs for anything, it's mindlessly simple to adjust the tempo (and it has a speed trainer feature where you can set it to loop x amount of times then move up by y%), and you can just set the instruments to play the notes half a step (or a whole step, or as many steps as you like) up or down from the original. Of all the gear and software that I've purchased over the years, Guitar Pro has been hands down the most useful. Newer versions have a pretty good soundfont thingy and stuff sounds perfectly adequate for practicing or sketching ideas quickly. It won't do MP3s but you probably don't actually need that. Practicing over backing tracks is great, but if you do not silence the track that you're attempting to play, it's hard to hear your mistakes (especially dropped or badly articulated notes). There's no workable way to silence a particular track starting from an MP3.

Yeah I was gonna say I just use guitar pro or rocksmith depending on how hard the song is. The gpro midi is good enough to learn with, and you can also mute it and play the mp3 once you're getting it Rocksmith is surprisingly good fun for sight reading

Definitely a Kay, probably late 50's. Not worth much as they were the mass-production guitars of their day but they can be good players. The necks are a little quirky as they dont have truss rods, but if it hasn't bowed after all these years then it probably never will. There should be a sticker in one of the f-holes with the maker and model number.

Yeah it’s just a case where the effort of learning and getting comfortable with a well made floyd isn’t worth it because I find them weird under the hand and the sound unplugged is always a certain kind of thin. Not necessarily a bad thing but I play unplugged a lot and notice it with Floyds. I thought for years that I would eventually push through since I like shreddy guitars but nah, not for me. I’m at the point in my playing/gear buying where I have a decent grasp of what I like and dislike, what makes me play more vs stop in frustration. That said, it changes every other month or I’ll find a new little thing I prefer so who knows :p
