this is not at all "psychological effect of capitalism", it's an inherent human drive to pursue prestige and power and success, and it will never go away even in full communism

frankly I'm fine with that because it's a big part of what drives innovation and advancement, but it needs to be monitored because otherwise you get donald trump and hillary clinton

yes of course there will be folks driven by ambition in full communism. but capitalism takes this tendency and drives it to extreme excess, such that the whole society is based around pursuit of these things. i don't really think everyone has that type of psychology. it might be hard to see that if you do have that type of psychology, just like biden talking about how jobs provide dignity and a place in the community and are an inherent human desire. that is true for some, not all.

The caged bird has no desire to fly if the cage is all it has ever known.

Cage has been bought for, as advertised, comfort as promised. Cage was not decided for bird, but bird agrees upon it. Bird thinks decision was bird's. Really cage's decision, since all Bird has ever seen is cage. :stoked:

Bird is proud of this cage for a little while, has earned cage. But Bird grows bored of it eventually because all there is, is a cage.

Leaving it is too uncertain. Only death is certain, but things are too comfortable to depart just yet.

Bird ignores own time, makes little use of it because time is also bought and paid for, already decided by Cage. Bird spend time doing work, sleeping, eating.

Finally Bird get bigger cage for time spent sleeping, eating, doing work. Bird can move around in cage more. Bird get bored after a while, already know all the spots in bigger cage because it is still a cage, only bigger.

Bored, Bird wonders why Bird has no time for self. Only time for cage, making it bigger and bigger. Cage must be bigger, better, prettier. All purpose devoted to cage, where else time go? Death comes soon, but cage must represent Bird's time. Bird wants to make sure of this so cage must get bigger so that Bird would be remembered.

Bird dies. Only cage is remembered, gigantic, ornate and pretty compared to Bird's empty deflated grey tiny husk. New bird comes into cage.

To be completely fair, you could make the same argument regarding criticism of mainstream Dems (i.e. "who gives a poo poo if they have flaws, the Republicans are worse").

I think the more important point is that Bernie is still for the left of the rest of the party, and it doesn't make sense to focus criticism on him until his ideas both become mainstream and start to be actively pushed by the Democratic Party. Once half of all Democratic Senators are Bernie-equivalents or something, then it might make sense to try and push the Overton window even further.

it was after the great fires of chicago and boston bankrupted the fire insurance industry, making it hard for private fire brigades to get anyone to pay them at the rates they demanded

Good Morning!
Sunday Morning!
If you want to sledgehammer the whole system, start doing it but you're still sitting around waiting for the moment while everyone is comfortably humming along. But you know you can't because everything is disorganized and removed, so yer the only one at the time doing it instead of everyone else collectively so you just look like a unhappy self-serving loon. Instead all you are going to get is contempt :chloe:

The only time that'll ever happen is in this modern day and age, that people's time left over are robbed, such as the internet they want to privatize. Widespread, and I mean widespread allover this gigantic country, (the biggest obstacle you have with hundreds of counties and towns/cities etc with their own individual issues and white noise infighting) inability to access clean water, food and other commodities should the US ever have its tradelines interrupted. Then you can start marching in the streets and dragging the bankers out of their mansions to the lampposts and guillotines that you love to fantasize as revenge for the fact that the system has screwed you over so many times.

All of this didn't happen overnight, it's imperceptible. You need a screwdriver instead of a sledgehammer to dismantle the bolts and couplings in this system (that centrists love to talk about but never really do it because the system just works for them, they want to use the screwdriver to upgrade parts of it instead of removing the parts that are inefficient and just don't work).

And if the screwdriver to remove the parts don't work, then you can sledge hammer those parts out.

Instead of destroying the whole system and having everyone eat each other the gently caress alive. You will die too in this process because you are soft and pudgy from being inside this cage too, you are no different. Check your hubris :abuela:

You idealize it, but yer still a loving agriculturist. Nomadic humans have better decision making processes and purposes in their life, enduring far greater hardships than you do sitting around on your computer bitching about how you like facebook leftists than c-spam leftists. Sounds like a first world problem to me :capitalism:

Just killing time making this post :xd:
