5/5. You have to be in the right frame of mind to appreciate this movie. It's tremndously silly, but "teen movie/space opera" is certainly a formula that no director had thought of before. Very few have thought of it since, too, although I like to think that "Wing Commander" is a bit of a paean to this particular bending of genre. The combination of gore with grossout/sophomoric humor makes a combination that isn't quite suited to fans of either, and I appreciate that. When I was a young stoner, I wanted to get a "Death From Above" tattoo on my arm, and continually tried to convince my friends to do the same (with little - ok, no - luck) just so we could recreate the one shot in the film with those tats. I may still get it.
