Has anyone seen the dubbed episodes on Funimation? The first two episodes are free, but you need a paid account to watch the rest of the season. The dubs in episodes 1 and 2 seemed pretty bad imo. Obviously subs are better for solo watching, but I'd like to get some friends into the new series too. Do the dubs get any better?

I kind of interpreted it as saying that, even with all these incredibly unlikely events and circumstances leading up to it, the best possible absolute monarchy is still terrible for almost everyone else. And in the real world, we'd probably never get the same sequence of events leading up to it, so our monarchies are always even worse. Likewise, as bad as the FPA's democracy was, we theoretically have the power to keep it together and improve upon it, as long as we don't grow complacent and cynical and assume that all is already lost.

Pornographic Memory posted:I think it was mentioned that during the Empire's civil war, a lot of the rebels' strength came from nobles' private military forces. Between oppressing the peasants and keeping uppity nobles in line there seems like there was a significant drag on military resources just suppressing dissent at home. Like Kircheis being sent off to tell that guy who liked Rome too much to quit loving around seemed like it was portrayed as a fairly routine occurrence. So not only did their neo-feudalism sap their productive capacity through deindustrialization but it also made their society even more fractious despite all the violent repression that went into holding it up. I assumed that the various nobles abusing their power for personal enrichment was a routine occurrence in the empire. The novel part here is that, rather than the other nobles trying to settle it with court intrigue or kanly, Reinhard used the organs of the state, under the command of a commoner. It was a way to test the waters for a larger campaign of subjecting the nobles in the interest of the state.

Reuenthal was born with heterochromia, so not artificial eyes. IIRC, the only character shown with artificial eyes in the OVA was Oberstein. I don't know if this was ever officially stated, but I always assumed that Oberstein's eyes recorded video, possibly including sound. Was that the case, or were they just regular artificial eyeballs? My original character do not steal includes fake eyeballs with the same weapon as Ansbach's ring.

I was really disappointed in the first two episodes of DNT, but otherwise it's all been really enjoyable. I hope they'll finish the whole series, Gaiden, and all of the movies (including Golden Wings).

Define merch and specify whether you mean OVA or DNT. No idea if the books, manga, or golden wings have anything specific to them. There are action figures for the OVA and DNT. Lol at this thing. What a steal.

Die Neue These for the characters interacting with each other. OVA for the ship battles.

It gets a lot better, but the first two episodes of DNT were kind of a letdown imo. I hope they make something like My Conquest is the Sea of Stars.

I watched both movies first and then started with episode 1 of the OVA. Yeah it's the same thing but it's a good thing so what's not to like about seeing it twice. Golden Wings is a fun movie to watch after everything else, but it's best treated as non-canon/fan fiction imo. I tried to get my friend started with My Conquest is the Sea of Stars but he thought it was kind of boring and didn't want to keep going. If you've already committed to watching more, it's a good start, but if you're on the fence, then Overture to a New War is the better movie. I watched all of the episode previews.

How does one audition for a role? I want to be an extra who dies a gruesome death when a ship explodes.

Did anyone else think of Reuenthal launching an insurrection with the stated goal of removing Oberstein and Lang from power during the real life Wagner rebellion with Prigozhin attempting to remove Shoigu and Gerasimov from power?

TenementFunster posted:my only beef with eps 90-96 so far is that no way would 3,500,000 dudes stick with Reuenthal against the rest of the Empire They don't think they're going against the rest of the empire, they think they're protecting the empire from the nefarious machinations of Oberstein and Lang. Schwarzwald posted:tbh I try real hard to ignore whenever the show gives hard numbers because I swear there are times where Wen-li will lose a quarter of his ships after a long engagement only to end up with more than he started with I imagine there are still ships being built, ships in varying states of overhaul, and shipyards full of mothballed ships waiting to be reactivated. Also, total number of ships doesn't really indicate how many are big capital ships vs small auxiliary ships. The limiting factor is probably finding competent crew to man them all. Do individual Spartanians count toward ship totals? I can't remember, do we ever see previously captured ships re-painted and used by the captor's side in a battle?

The real question is, how do people drive cars? Are we to assume that other planets have fossil fuels as well?

Is the dubbing actually decent? I think I re-watched the first episode of DNT with dubs and it just didn't work for me at all. Does it get better?
