Track days help your street riding a bit. Track riding lets you go out and ride in a relatively safe and controlled environment. The speeds involved with stuff like dragging your knee are not terribly safe on public roads. I think most people that start doing track days probably slow down on the street because of the track experience. You realize just how futile it would be to ride in a similar fashion on the streets (dangerous + tickets).

I think Phat_Albert needs to separate what he doesn't like with what takes skill. Obviously, lots of stunting stuff takes lots of practice skill, but a lot of people think it's fairly stupid/boring to watch. The stunting scene seems to follow the lines of the drifting scene. The whole culture around the activity is so loving retarded that it's hard to appreciate the skill involved. To someone like myself, most stunting tricks look the same, and frankly after you've seen 10 minutes of it there doesn't seem to be much original about it.

Inolen on the other hand is completely oblivious to the vast differences between stunting and trials riding. I doubt any stunter expert could start balancing the bike, track standing, or riding over/on obstacles. It really is an apples to oranges comparison.

Personally, I find watching the stuff that the guys do on trials bikes to be far more interesting/fun to watch then the stunt stuff. The slow speed stunt stuff sort of reminds me of bike ballet. Remember ski ballet back in the 80s (it was actually in the olympics for a short period)? Stunting is sort of the motorcycle equivalent of that for my tastes.

While we're at it we should get the libertarians to debate with the socialists what is better.

The M1 isnt a replica. It always makes the rounds every year. Last year in Seattle they had it on the ground and didn't even have it roped off. It was pretty fun fussing with the levers and looking it all over.

Another video of my 89 GSXR 750 on a twisty road. The bike's now complete and looking through the tinted windshield is much better than I thought it'd be. I also used the open back-plate to the GoPro HD, and it's a tad windier at higher speeds but the sound quality is better.

I should have washed the windshield before doing this, but o well. Enjoy.

I enjoyed the part where you almost ran off the road at the end of the video. You really should consider reserving that sort of pace for the track.

Steel is generally a lot less rigid than aluminum. Nevermind that you've got basically a two piece frame now. Is there any actual engineering or proof that what you have is stiffer?

Edit: Better braking input from a frame? Okay.

This is an old photo showing his teammate Colin Edwards in front of him. The GO!!!! thing was Galoises(sp) cigarette advertising. Since you couldn't say the actual name the companies would come up with stuff like that. The most famous version of that being the Marlboro barcodes and stuff like that.

Marlboro seems to be the only folks that are really involved in lots of motorsports sponsorship these days aren't they? I think they've established so much brand recognition with their red liveries that it's still a viable advertising option. At least on Eurosport MotoGP broadcasts and Speed F1 broadcasts the teams are referred to as Marlboro Ducati and Marlboro Ferrari respectively. That's got to count for something.

Devils backbone on your account is very close to where I live. I personally am not a fan of the first gear technical single track. It's fun on a mountain bike but just a chore on a dirtbike. I think it'd be great fun to have a trials bike for riding stuff like that. I've actually seen a few trials bikes up on some of those trails.

To give a little background, the guy getting passed is a mod on the forum with lots of track experience and the "bad" example rider is another forum member loving around with him in I group; the "bad passer" regularly podiums in local WERA events.

Considering how slow this guy is going compared to everyone else in the video and his poor choice of lines maybe he should be in a slower group.

I found the CB400F to be a fine but boring/heavy bike. It just felt like a modern-ish bike but was fairly slow. The throttle being heavy was probably a result of the lack of lube in it. I lubed the one I had and it made a huge difference. It's pretty much the polar opposite of the experience of riding my RDs. In my opinion part of the reason you own an old bike is to experience something that is a lot different than a modern bike. The CB feels like a fairly modern bike in my opinion.

RE: Cafe Racers
I have to laugh at the thought that you can reverse a cafe racer by just pulling the seat and bars off. No mention of trying to make the thing handle any better. Cafe racering in my opinion is no better than putting a bodykit on a Honda civic.
