Right, I have no doubt they are highly skilled, but at least some of it has to be the bike or people would run all kinds of bikes in those races. There has to be some reason supermotos are quicker on tight courses with lovely pavement than sport bikes or standard dirt bikes, or people wouldn't use them.

They are light, as in 200-ish pounds wet. They make massive torque and decent hp(mid 50s for 450s, up into the 70s for really tweaked works rigs). The suspension geometry allows for sliding around. Did I mention torque? The riders are agressive, backing one in like that on asphalt takes brass balls and some screwed up survival instinct wiring in the noggin.

You'll notice the riders are wearing MX type gear, because they are working thier asses off wrangling those bikes. Leathers would cause them to overheat. It takes a very odd person to ride like that.

The stubby pipe look is beginning to grow on me. Looks rather fitting on that GSXR. Lose the passenger pegs and integrate the tail lights and it will look very clean and purposeful.

That bike's looks grow on me everytime I look at it. The exhaust and rear shock just do something right, to my eyes at least.

Isn't that the logo of the Triumph car company, which was completely separate from the motorcycle company? Why did Turtle Parlor stick an old BL logo on a newer Triumph?

I bought it that way. It was someones elses track-rat/DD and he had tossed it down the track a few times. The fairings are trashed and just about every part is scuffed/dented/broken in some manner. It's beat down to a degree that is really quite fun to look at. Mechanically it's in great condition and I just go ride the wheels off it any chance I get. I keep the important bits in working order and all else I ignore.

Do people like those onboard views so much that it needs to be mandatory? I know I don't, I find them useful for breaking up the monotony sometimes, but I could do without them.

I adore the on bike cams, especially when the bikes are super close during a turn. That kind of angle really shows how close these guys will run. I DO like to see the wide angle shot as well, but bike cam shots are pretty spectacular IMO.

I followed him on a run, he was dragging hard bits left and right. I wasn't having much trouble staying with him, as I ride a supersport and my bike had lots let to give. Now, had I been in front he would have been all over my rear end, I do not know the lines like he does. I talkled to him after we got back to the CROT and I asked him what kind of speeds he could run on a sportbike on the Dragon and he told me there was NO WAY IN HELL that he'd ride a sportbike on the hill. Said the 'Wing is forgiving and if it slides in any way, it just goes straight.

Last ride out my 2001 YZ426 decided to spring an oil leak. Not a little weeping from a seal but a full on gusher. I actually had someone come up and ask if my bike was on fire.

I took it back to the truck and used a loaner for the remainder of the day, thankfully a 3 hour trip was not wasted.

Today I decided to tear into it some and have a look. I figured out pretty quickly what the issue was:

A rubber plug blew off. It must have been spewing oil quite ferociously.
Also note the "mod" of the spark plug hole. It's a trick to get one out with that little section chipped off, with it intact it's got to be drat near impossible.

I bought this bike used, from a harescrable/enduro guy. It's got some pretty snazzy kit installed on it, problem being I dunno the extent of the modifications sometimes. So sometimes I run into bizarre things when fiddling with it. Take for instance the "oil elimination kit", it's there to rid weight at the expense of about 1/4 quart of oil.

The 01' YZs used an oil reservoir in the frame, and that light blue spacer on the case added back *some* of the lost oil capacity when the frame reservoir was eliminated. In addition to eliminating some oil, the mod drops the CG some.

The kit also got rid of some kinda oil line off the top of the valve cover, that's where the broken bit of rubber comes into play. I don't know where it should route to, or even if did re-do the routing what that would do. So I'm just going to re-plug it like it was before.

If anyone here has had the pleasure of trying to start a hot and recently dropped 2001 YZ426 you would know why I have been trying to make the beast easier to start. I researched and poked around the net looking for fixes and tips and finally found a modification that really seemed to help. Called the "BK" mod. Involves drilling and tapping a set screw to keep a small pump from squirting as much as the factory sets it at. So I go digging around my carb and come to find out that the BK has already been performed. GREAT. This thing musta been a real riot before that little fix.

And some random porno titanium 5 valve head shots:

Last week I thought I felt an odd "lump" in my power delivery on my 2001 Triumph TT. A kind of cyclic surge, speed dependant and not rpm. So I got home, looked the chain over and spun it by hand when on the stand. Could not replicate the sensation. Chalked it up overactive imagination.

Cut to yesterday, the sensation was gone and it was a definite thump in the driveline somewhere. So again it goes up on the stand and I pop the master-link and find this:

WHOA. Not good. The link had busted the roller too and hogged out the hole some.

gently caress gently caress gently caress. Scrambling around I find a chain that's 3 links short and begin a brainstorming session on how to fix this situation. End up grafting the needed links from two identical D.I.D 525 chains to get my needed 106 links. Took forever due to this:

Broke on the second rivet I tried to force through. Out comes the dremel and the cutoff discs. Cutoff discs should be re-named to "high-speed emory projectile throwers that aim for eyes", one slip or any sideways force and they come apart fast enough to garner attention from the Hadron Collider folks. Some more piddling about and I figure out a pretty slick way to get the plates off the sides while leaving the rollers intact. Basically it's grinding down the rivets flush, cutting a slot in the plate across the center of the rivet and then getting a burly pair of needlenose pliers in there to create some side pressure and the link will shatter.

Rivet type links went on with little fuss and soon the thing was buttoned back up. I ran it up to about 8k on the stand in 6th gear (round about 87 mph) and it was smooth as glass. MUCH BETTER. Soaked the chain in 50 weight oil and gonna let it stew overnight. I must be a perv because I could do this kinda thing all the time, even with the hurdles tossed in my way. Feels good to take a pretty poo poo situation and make it work out fine with limited time and resources.

No, the man is missing critical elements in his "ride safely" cognitive functions. TT riders are seemingly okay with the fact that *someone* is going to die during the season, possibly multiple riders.
