Anecdotally, however, my wife's Yoko all-seasons and my all-terrains feel way loving smoother and quieter than Michelin's stiff-rear end, loud-rear end "sport touring" tires ever were, so maybe roundness isn't everything Michelin.

Maybe stick to rating restaurants or something.

Yeah Michelins are notoriously stiff, good on a track I guess but makes the ride less smooth.

Was it in this thread or the OSHA thread someone linked a guy who jury rigged together all kinds of tools and project, like a lathe from like saw horses and a drill to angle grind the rust of a long pipe? I'd like to find that guy and subscribe to his newsletter.

Content for this thread, Fitzee at it again, making new body panel parts with complex shapes using far too little expensive tooling for a proper youtube.

“Mazda!? Not in my parking lot!”

I learned to drive in an 89 Celebrity Eurosport. Eurosport just meant that it had blacked out chrome trim to try and make it look a little more modern. There must have been criticism about how conservative the styling was compared to the Taurus, they are super defensive about it in that video.

My mother’s Celebrity rusted so fast the trunk lid actually got replaced under warranty.

I parked next to a Mazda 626 GLX from ca 1990 last week and that car gave me such nostalgia. My first car was one of those. Though a more simple GL variant.

My parents have driven nothing but Mazda since 1988. Of course their current car is a 626 from 1998, bought new. Think the last 626 before they went to just the 6. They can't bear to sell it. Just too good, just passed inspections without a single fault. I have the 6 and less warm feelings towards it. I'd rather drive the one in the photo...

When I was installing tires for a living years ago, Michelins were a joy to balance, but the wheel isn't perfectly true, you're hosed because the sidewall will transmit any minor vibration or shake into something noticable. They'd fail the "road force" test every time and it was usually easier to change to Continental, BFGoodrich, Toyo, any other tire.

There were a lot more steel wheels back then, which probably made the issue worse.

That's interesting, I never thought about different brands being harder to balance. Here in Canada, steel wheels are still popular for snow tire use, which probably means more of them are bent as folks (and lovely traction control) overcook corners and slide into the curb for an involuntary dynamic alignment.

I've always had Michelins on every car and motorcycle, summer and winter, alloy and steel, never had any issues. Energy, Alpin and Primacy.

The only set of tires I regretted putting on a car were Hankooks, they dry-rotted after two years.

Continental is probably the only other brand I'd take without hesitation.

I've never thought much about brands at all really, just get the almost cheapest tires. Usually they have been Nokias. I am not sure if there's a false economy in that or not. But balancing is always included in the price regardless.

They were fine tires they just were way louder than anything from anyone else reputable, and the ones we picked were marketed as quiet.

If anyone hasn't ever watched My Mechanic, he's a Swiss machinist who does incredible restorations of old items. Often times he ends up machining replacement hardware for bits that have deteriorated just so that everything ends up looking perfect. The results are always impressive. Well he's now probably the only person in Switzerland who owns a Datsun 240Z that spent the last 40 years sitting in a garage in California. True to form, he takes the entire body apart for stripping and repainting. I'm really excited to see what he does with the engine.

Great video on the car scene in Singapore. You might've heard that they have extremely high taxes and fees to it's very limited to mostly rich people, but it's still pretty fascinating to get a close look.
