Japanese children's TV apparently involves a brief lesson on autocross and circuit driving. Somehow I don't think the driver is the same person as the excitable voiceover. Subliminal message: Buy a Honda

Minis racing at last year's Goodwood Revival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq743jZ6L0Y It's amazing how an entire field of Minis at full throttle in aggregate sounds like one or two touring cars at part throttle. Plus, they're literally driving three abreast down a straight. Also, the announcers are seriously getting into it. I wish we had better racing TV in North America. It's super exciting to see cars the size of a shopping cart running flat out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIGhswSerbA This little Scirocco is crazy! According to the post, it has AWD through a Quattro swap and a "Buick stage II race engine" (3800 SII, I'm assuming, based on what appears to be a blower sticking out of the hood). Aside from a little incident where it picks up a free spare tire, it seems to do a pretty good job at this little hillclimb/autocross thing. The same guy also has videos of a supercharged rotary-powered bugeye Sprite, the happiest looking death machine around. I'm not sure if the engine or the transmission is louder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bbcT8OaHms

I imagine "Ferrari World" features two exciting podiums: one is a walk-through attraction where you go through the garage of a guy named Tony who charges you between $3000 and $20,000 for parts like exhaust hangers and wing mirrors. The other is an event for the kids to learn how to completely rebuild a wiring harness. Once the kids finish, they are given a little ribbon by the Ferrari World attendant, and the harness bursts into flame. There's a bouncy castle at the end, but it costs $250 to ride and your kids just get punched in the crotch when they get off the ride. Also, the bouncy castle occasionally explodes, firing kids into the upper atmosphere, but it's their own fault for exceeding the manufacturer's warranty by bouncing on the bouncy castle. You may think the obsession with unexplained engine and electrical fires is strange, but Ferrari World at least doesn't feature the "Carbs of Death" ride from Lamborghini World down the block. Don't stand in line too long, kids! Anyway, on topic: in some European countries they have tiny dinky Fiat clones that don't make a lot of power and have not very many cylinders. The solution? Inexpensive superbike motors. BUSKUL!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft5Aj4CkI_Y edit: Actually the 12 cylinder boat ride is pretty awesome. I'm starting to get addicted to car chase videos. Here's one from two incredibly bored cops trying to catch a tweaked Elan after it has a little too much fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHQmpaiz2sU It's worth it just to hear their conversation. They don't even turn on the lights or bother pointing the camera (that would be rude). I suspect the American car chase videos are mostly like this as well before Sheriff John Bunell dubs over it with information about the psychotically fast European-tuned independent suspension. Lotus Omega demonstrates why they're scary cars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5o4erh8hiY Seat Safety Switch fucked around with this message at 16:45 on Aug 26, 2010 |
