I don't understand why they're loving this up so bad. Youtube is booming and cable is dying because people don't want to pay monthly subscriptions for channels. Speaking of which, they have a new video up, it's 4 minutes on the free channel, the last minute of which is an ad for driveplus. Of course, a whole bunch of comments are links to  for the full video. This business model is going to sink them.edit: for countries like germany and new zealand who couldn't pay for and watch drive+ even if they wanted to, they're probably going to sell that garbarge on DVD. talk about taking 10 steps backwards. the "Driveplus" numbers are based off the user account "driveplus" which is a different account. the /Drive+ channel user name is actually UCfbPZ1cTgBH2djzLLCPTmXg because it's an actual channel. look at the url on their page. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfbPZ1cTgBH2djzLLCPTmXg/videos applying that to the stats thing, comes up with "subscriberCount":"0","videoWatchCount":0,"viewCount":"0","totalUploadViews":"47997"} The totaluploadviews matches the number on their profile page, but doesn't show any subscribers. Their most popular video only has 10,629 views, to the 235,380 views on the shorter video on their free channel, meaning at most 10,629 people have taken them up on the free preview out of the 235,380 people who know about it. They can't even get 5% of the audience to use the free preview. edit: http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/UCfbPZ1cTgBH2djzLLCPTmXg?alt=json Look at "title" and "name", it is the drive+ stats. It might update, or it might only show subscribers who have been charged, meaning we won't know real numbers for another 10 days since everybody who subscribed is still in the free preview period. Hah, Matt Farah bitching about someone elses ego. He's using harris defending the company as evidence of his ego? When the driveplus stuff first came about, he angrily laughed at the suggestion that they would have to make the content better to justify the cost citing the free channels subscriber numbers as a sign of the quality. This is more like an artist and record label disagreeing over the price of an album. Harris wants to create something that more than 10,000 people, nobody at /drive has enough business sense to make that at reality. They're trying to make the economics bend to what they want to do rather than the other way around.

They could take a camera out with them and write a 1 page article on it and have your attention for another half hour, and get another 20 pageclicks per viewer but they seem to feel they're above that, and give any extra content they do get to spinelli's buddies at gawker to fill the page between iphone stories and plane crashes. It's a shame they blew the opportunity given to them by youtube, while bitching about motor trend being given the same opportunity and not loving it up.
