Thank you for the GTR clip -- I've never seen a KPGC10 running, and that was awesome. What video is that from?

Also, formula car hillclimbers have massive balls.

Here's some on-board footage of me driving the second last stage of Targa Newfoundland in my 510.

Reading instructions like a robot worked for me. He did an awesome job all week in my opinion.

For those of you interested, I am working on an article detailing the week and will post it here with a multi media spectaculoo once I get it all done.

Yeah, I had a Battlebot or two...

I know this isn't a super exciting clip, but it is of me and my car, and you can't hear myself or my navigator. But I do short shift (Targa day 4 means saving the motor!)

I know that when I make a pass in my car I'm pretty amped up by the end of it and I'm usually pretty drained the next day after racing.

Seriously? How fast is the car you're driving and how many passes do you make in a day?

That Targa video was really good. Looks like there were quite a few great cars there this year. Loving the Sprongls' Quattro, but I may be biased as their shop is in my home town. I was bummed that the route last year involved no jumps. We skipped the classic bridge jump in Brigus even. Good to see that Ralph Gilles still can't keep a car on the road.

Probably a repost, but my turn at loving up the Marystown hairpin in 2007: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvZ6g85-EcY

Edit: More of the Quattro -- this was shot at the charity autocross that's run the day after Targa is over. People donate money and get to ride along in Targa cars for a run. Somebody just got their $5 worth.

Sucks for the marshals though. It is also funny that it is in the parking lot of the provincial capital buildings.

I saw this in person on the hill and it was utterly shocking. The progam listing for this driver had his major racing accomplishment as 4th place in BSP in the SCCA Solo II nationals. Pikes Peak ain't a parking lot in Topeka.

You can see the build thread here, where the builder was told the cage was too wimpy. I guess it wasn't in the end. http://forums.evolutionm.net/motor-sports/594243-evolution-dynamics-pikes-peak-build-25.html

Original cage discussion is around page 7.

It's funny, the builder is all: "cage was strong enough" to the people wanting him to put in more bars, but if I was him and was thinking of doing this again, those bars sure as hell would be in there after taking part in this type of wreck. Luck played a major factor here.

Thanks guys -- this project has exceeded expectations with how fun it was do build, drive and people's reactions.

I've always had worries about a car's nannies making this sort of thing not work. Did you do research, or did you get lucky?

LUCKY -- and as no one else had done this, there wasn't much research to be done. But really it just thinks it's driving down hill, so it's not like it's really doing anything too weird. I turn stability control off (as it would freak out with mid corner throttle application) and after that never felt any intrusion on the street, but I found on the track it would still do some auto braking when I was entering corners hard, so the yaw sensor is going to get yanked before my next lapping day.

The thing that I actually did get the most lucky with was the Lexus's rear ABS wheel sensors and tone wheels were plug (well, cut and solder) and play which means the car has a fully working ABS system. This is important as without ABS working it won't do ANY regenerative braking, which is a requirement to do charge sustaining. Running total loss on the EV side and having to charge all the time would suck.

Does it do regen braking well? And, if it does, do you regen as the bike's motor is pushing?

Yes, regen braking works. It will regen while just cruising with the bike motor pushing it along, when you have the leaf system set to B or Eco mode. That can be further adjusted by the blend/boost knob.
