Mysterious Skin - starts out about molestation and neglect and ends with a solved mystery. It's a little like VC Andrews meets HP Lovecraft, except in this universe the inbred corn-pone is saved for a single diner pit stop. I had a hard time reading this but still finished it in a day. The protagonists quests for self discovery gave me that ol' encyclopedia brown 'it's right in front of your nose, you poor bastard' twitch. Somehow it kept me reading.
