Sci-fi/fantasy movie, made in the 1980's. I saw it on the SciFi Channel a long time ago. Some guy living in NYC thinks that he is in a fantasy world. I think Tom Hanks may have been in it, but it's probably just merging with my memories of the movie Big. edit: It's probably Mazes and Monsters. I'm sorry.

I remember he had a beach house and a "hip" name. I think one of the kids in the class was named chainsaw. I remember that the kid who was in the bathroom eventually got the highest test score. But for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the movie, or anyone who was in it. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Basically the precursor for "The Cell", it was about a guy who could enter the dreams of someone else. I remember in the beginning he is in a room with a child who is being stalked by some kind of monster. I guess you should go ahead and confirm that it's not "Nightmare on Elm Street."

They somehow discover an alien method of transport, basically a translucent inertia-less sphere they could get in that can go fast as hell, and through anything. I specifically remember one scene around the time they discover this thing where one of the kids flies around in it through the ground, trees..basically any material. From a kids movie, I'm fairly sure it was computer animated so last fifteen years probably. The main character is being introduced to all the other characters, and one is a little kid that jumps up and yells "wanna wrassle??" really loud and it killed me but I can't remember the movie.
