We think they're great. In a grand, mystical, neopolitical sense, these guys have a real message in their music. They don't, however, have neat names like me and Bono.
I was looking through the thread of the decade and saw fwoomph's really nice looking upcoming mandolin, and it made me want to see what everyone else was looking at/considering/watching the mailbox for.

Post pictures of either the instrument/gear you're getting next, or what you just got!

To start...

This is basically exactly the same as the electric 5-string mandolin I'm having built by Jon Mann, out of Nashville (this is one of his). Mine will have a lighter finish, closer to the very light, vintage natural finish that PRS uses. Kent Armstrong pickups, push/pull knob for coil tapping.

Your turn.

edit: I can't believe this post is still going, literally 15 years later!

edit: Now 18 years later. This post will probably outlive me at this rate.

Funny this should come up today...

I had been watching an auction on eBay for a Lovetone Meatball:

Last day, no bids, $450, buy it now at $499. I put my bid in and a maximum of $465. It was quiet until literally the last minute. Some douche comes in and tries to take it over. $475, 490, 500, 525... He takes it at $525. I literally was about to message him and call him a human being.

So with my head hung low in defeat, I bought an Electro-Harmonix Mini Q-Tron. Essentially the same thing but much cheaper and not quite as awesome.

I've been a long time fan of Rickenbacker, and I just had the opportunity to play one last weekend. I was amazed by the brightness of tone this thing had. I decided I had to get one.

I don't know how or when, but some day, I will have my 4003.

What does that extremely cool looking piece of technology do?

It's a drum machine and sampler. You record samples, or cut up beats and loops, then map them to those pads, then you play the pads with your fingers. It's like making beats by tapping your fingers on a table or something but a million times better.

This is my custom snare I got made last month. It's a 7x14 20 ply all maple snare with tube lugs and a trick strainer. Oh yea and it sounds holyfuckingshit good.

The rest of the kit is going to start being built next week hopefully. I'm getting 1" squares on the 13" tom (they'll be the same size as the ones on the snare), 2" squares on the 16" floor tom and 3" squares on the 22" bass drum. If they all sound as good as the snare does it'll be quite the awesome kit.

This is my latest purchase:

A RedSound DarkStar DSP synth with VOCODA CHIP!!!!

These dont come up for auction that often, so I was lucky to get it for £98 the other day. I'm planning to use my 6-string electric violin as the instrument carrier (for harmony/pitch/dynamics) and a mic for a phonetics... It should be arriving here any day now!

I sold the AC30 for it ( :( ), but the thing was so heavy I was never playing it anyway. Three flights of stairs + 80lbs of Vox = :corsair:
