What's that song by Morrissey/The Smiths with the lyrics, "I will be in the bar / with my head on the bar," this is driving me crazy.

Vauxhall and I. It's a solo Morrissey tune.

It's from Suite #2 In B Minor. I think it's the Badinerie section.

For the record, I had never even heard of or seen that group you just linked and it's REALLY loving cool, too. Thanks for that.

I'd like to know what song the "purple" is from on the audio track on this YTMND:

http://remix4.ytmnd.com/

The site cites the audio is a mashup of Big Joe and Blackalicious, but can't find it from either.

The "Dee da dadda" part and the piano riff is from a Blackalicious track from their album "Nia" called "Deception" -- it's a great story song, the hook is "Don't Let Money Change Ya", if that helps you find it.

Have no idea what the vocal track is from, though.

There was a song I heard on the radio the other day that was guitar instrumental only. I also remember it from the movie "Airborne". IMDB soundtrack check came up with nothing. No idea what it's called or who played it.

The guitar work sounds really early-90's.

If you're not a 'instrumental guitar' guy and familiar with all of those wankariffic douchebags, I'm willing to bet this song is Joe Satriani's "Summer Song", since that was like the only one of those "listen to me solo for five minutes" songs to achieve any sort of chart penetration at the time. This is a completely uneducated guess, but it makes sense in my head. I've never seen the movie.

Most notable feature: the synthesized voice at the end of a verse says something like (though not exact since a lyric search didn't help me) "move your body from left to right" and "(something something) broad daylight" and then a loud stab of synth.

"Don't Stop The Rock" by Freestyle. It's the ultimate skating rink song. Oh, and big sardonic LAWLZ at the Foreigner mention.

What's the name of the first song in this Youtube video? I tried Googling it several times, trying to guess if it probably belongs to Sinead O'Connor or that girl from Cocteau Twins but to no avail.

"Horse and I" by a group called Bat For Lashes. It's a singer-songwriter girl named Natasha Kahn and her rotating band of cohorts. Pretty good stuff, actually, kind of like an organic Portishead.

Anyone know the first track that's being played in this clip?

It sounds like Amanda Blank but I can barely make it out through all of the distortion and people yelling "WOOOOO". Is there a cleaner clip somewhere?

Yeah, she's not Jamaican, I couldn't make out the voice so well so I was just going by the beat and it sounds like a track of hers. Ah well. That was my one shot.

Okay. I'm pretty sure this was on an episode of Beavis and Butthead way back when, but I know I've heard it pop up in a few places since, like car commercials or something. It's a very upbeat, poppy song, mostly acoustic guitar if I remember correctly. The chorus was full of big harmonies and there was a lyric about "the roooooo-o-o-oad" at the end of it.

This'll probably help more than anything else -- I remember that the video featured a bunch of attractive "soccer mom" type ladies in professional outfits pushing strollers around the town. The babies inside of the strollers had the heads of the band members instead of infant faces. I specifically remember Beavis freaking out and yelling "AHHHH!" the first time one of the babies was shown.

Any ideas?

And no, it's not Aphex Twin.

Close, but no cigar. The video was tinted a quite strong yellow/orange, with the lights, and the bass was hella heavy. No crowd in the video I'm thinking of too.

Don't think I've ever seen the video, but I can't think of too many bass/drums duos that even had MTV videos more than a couple years back. Could it have been Godheadsilo? Lightning Bolt, maybe? Both groups had/have some seriously distorted bass, although I don't know if they ever shot a video. The other groups that sprung to mind were Cop Shoot Cop and Morphine, although neither groups are technically duos.

Just tap in the beats of the song's melody with your spacebar!

And now for mine: I remember hearing a guitar anthem in the early-mid 90s with a very surf feel and a lead guitar riff that would repeat to a higher octave. It sounds like it would be found on Surfing with the Alien or one of Gary Hoey's albums. I think it was used in a bunch of TV ads and maybe a few movies. I'll record the riff when I'm back from traveling if that helps.

Dollars to donuts it's Joe Satriani - "Summer Song".

I answered this same question like five pages back with this same song and it was right. I can't think of too many other 'guitar wankfests' that had the kind of exposure that tune did, it was in those Walkman commercials for the neon yellow tape players where the kids were dancing in the fountain, it showed in up in about twenty movies that summer, and it even got airplay on 'normal' radio stations. So, yeah, that's probably it.

gently caress, I just noticed the 'very surf feel' part and now I'm thinking I might be wrong. Didn't Gary Hoey HAVE a surf song that was on the radio? Or am I confused.

Yep, my brain mixed the "Hocus Pocus" riff by Hoey with a bit of Summer Song's progression. After looking into it, both were on the radio around the same time! Strange how the mind works... I might as well record something like this as an original.

You know, now that you mention it, maybe somebody can help me. It was the same era, maybe 96 or 97 or so... there was a song on the radio all the time that was like sort of a glammy hard rock kind of sound, with a real fast lead guitar player and a TON of big vocal harmonies that were almost Queen-like. I don't remember many lyrics to the song, I remember he said "Give it to me" a lot and there may have been something about Romeo and Juliet involved or something.

Either way, it was definitely like your typical mid-90's glam song, ala Skid Row, but with some crazy neo-classical guitar and weird Bohemian Rhapsody type vocals. And if I'm not mistaken, the band had the one hit and disappeared.

It can't be 1990's "Give in to Me" by Michael Jackson. The song is in the style of glam rock ballad. Slash played guitar on this song but he's not really fast. Not sure about the queen-like vocal harmonies.

Do you remember anything more about the song?

Oh man, I totally forgot to post about this, but I figured this one out with the help of the internets. The song I was looking for was called "Backdoor Romeo" by a band called T-Ride, evidentally. I found a sample of it, and it's definitely the right song. Thanks, though. :D

I'm not the person who posted this originally, but I think you're right -- I vividly remember that song in a BS:G commercial that aired stateside as well because of the excessive chorusing on the singer's voice. Every time it would come on, I'd think "Here's that song where the guy's singing through a fan again".

The guitar part is a steady strumming, not a riff like in the Quannum track. It would have definitely got airtime on MTV or MuchMusic. It's possible it's a canadian group. I'm trying to check some clips from the rascalz and kardinal offishall, but no luck yet with what I've found.

Honestly, the thought I keep having is the Busta Rhymes song he did with Janet Jackson. This one. I can't think of anything else getting airplay at the time with the porn wah-wah action happening.

Edit to add: Something of my own here -- Remember that horrible Peter Gunz track "Uptown Baby"? What's that sample from anyways? It's obviously just a jack, and I love that beat, but can't stand the song, so I'd like to know where it came from.

Wikipedia says it's an original WWE composition called "Hey You". There's no mention of Joe Strummer anywhere, and I find it quite hard to believe that the Clash's vocalist would record a theme song for the WWE -- it's definitely not a Clash song either.

So, this is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but there you go. It seems to me to be a song recorded by studio musicians "in the style of" The Clash, nothing more, nothing less.

gently caress, I know that drum break for sure but it just won't come to me for some reason. For what it's worth, the organ is definitely a B-3 and I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a tune by the Incredible Bongo Band, since the recording and the sound of the instruments sounds like it could be from the same record as "Apache". But who knows.
