I remember a particular song I heard sometime in the mid '90s, but I've never managed to find it online. I'm pretty sure it was in a style somewhat reminiscent of "Whatta Man". During the chorus, backup singers chanted (not sang) "I wouldn't change you if I could".

No, it's not the Ricky Skaggs song. That's all I can find when I try to Google.

This is a bit of a long shot, because I don't actually remember any lyrics: a late '50s or early '60s (definitely pre-British Invasion) doo-wop song.

Each verse has back-up singers (the first half is a male voice, the second half female voices) singing this in the background: https://onlinesequencer.net/1129342

Hope this isn't too vague. The identity of this song is driving me nuts and people here are good at identifying relatively obscure music.

An '80s New Wave (?) song that keeps coming into my mind, but I never catch this song's title. In the chorus, the male singers spell out a word.

To make things clearer, I created an Online Sequencer that is a pretty close approximation: http://onlinesequencer.net/1623003.

The only songs from that I era I can think of with spelling:
Safety Dance
ROCK in the USA
And The Bay City Rollers' Saturday Night, but it's older and not new wave in the least

And one that might be mistaken for spelling, Come on Eileen.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was thinking of groups that were likely to have performed this song and figured out the song: it's Method Of Modern Love by Hall and Oates. I was thinking of the chorus where they spell out 'M-E-T-H-O-D-O-F-L-O-V-E'.

There's a particular bit of instrumental classical music that is very common to old Looney Tunes cartoons. Here's a sequence I made for it: https://onlinesequencer.net/1963974

Does anyone know the title? It's driving me nuts because you can't search online for tunes; only titles.

Not a song but a vaporwave album I once found somewhere on Bandcamp: A concept album of soundtrack music for a fictitious GBA/DS game. The title has the word 'island' in it and the album art is designed to look like the box art for a video game. I don't think it was a particularly well known album, and I'm not sure how much people know about vaporwave stuff here but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Awesome, thanks! I just discovered vaporwave during the summer and I'm always on the lookout for more music.

Could it be this one - no "island", but maybe the golf imagery made you think of Islands?

Edit: that's what I get for leaving windows open!

Thanks anyway! I'm a sucker for "fake videogame soundtrack" vaporwave stuff, so I'll check it out.

Near the end of the album version of Mother People (from We're Only In It For The Money), there's a brief instrumental interlude that references another Zappa song. This is where it begins, if I'm not being clear:

What is the name of the song being referenced? I'm having trouble finding information on it.

I can at least confirm that it also appears about 13 minutes into Part One on Lumpy Gravy - but poking around in the World's Greatest Sinner soundtrack didn't immediately find anything entirely similar.

Thank you! I Don't Think I Can Go Through This Again is the song I was looking for.

A song I heard on my local oldies station recently (yeah, I'm a Millennial who listens to oldies on the radio). I want to say that it's a Monkees song but I'm not exactly sure; if it is the Monkees, it's not one like Daydream Believer that gets a lot of airplay. Something about a bum who has been selected to receive government help but at the end of the song the bum is quite happy with his life.

e: Never mind, I found it - D.W Washburn.

A Grateful Dead song that gets a fair amount of radio airplay. It's noted for having a very similar melody to a Christian hymn.

Yeah, should have added that it's not one of the twenty minute live jams. "Touch of Grey" is also a pretty cool song but it definitely wouldn't have been that one.

This is a long shot and maybe it'd be better in the GBS White Whale thread: a song from a 2005-2006 PS2 ad. It was a rock song with a male voice that played as the commercial showed gameplay. I don't remember enough about what game was being advertised or the song to Google it properly, but here is a very rough Online Sequencer of it:

Can anyone identify the song that starts at 32:34 in this Proper People video? Seems to be an early to mid '80s New Wave song. The GBS White Whale thread didn't seem to know.
