bought a new helmet today to replace my ill-fitting 10 year old HJC CL-10. Scorpion EXO700 Rivet I spent about 30 minutes at the local shop trying on helmets from Aria, Shoei, HJC and some others, and this $210 Scorpion and a $400 Shoei fit the best. I dont like graphics and the Shoei didn't have any, but the the Shoei didn't have a breath deflector and seemed to fog up in the store, while I couldn't make the Scorpion fog up. That and $200 less sealed the deal. I know I could get this helmet cheaper online (I'm not sure how cheap) but I wanted it today so I ponied up the $210. It's a small, I'm a pin head

Sir Tonk posted:I fit into Shoei's TZ-R pretty well, would you say that the shape is similar? They don't sell these at the shop I was at, so haven't tried one on yet. And from NewEnough's description, they seem like a hell of a deal. I'm pretty sure it was the Shoei TZ-R that fit me in addition to the Scorpion EXO700. The fit was almost identical between the to to me (in the small size). I noticed riding today and tonight that it's really nice being able to turn my head on the freeway to look at my blind-spot without the helmet moving about and the visor blowing open The Scorpion is pretty tight in the cheek area, but I have a feeling it will wear in, or I will get used to it. It's not uncomfortable, just a bit annoying. Oh and one of the vents on the top is a bit loose. it opens and closes, just not solidly. And I feel better knowing I didn't get ripped off paying $210 out-the-door (thanks pr0zac)

I have a track day coming up on June 15th and I need leathers.. Is this a good suit and a good deal? http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/..._race_suit.html if not, do you have any recommendations? I want to keep it fairly cheap ($500 or les) as i'll probably get something better in a year when I'm more experienced and will know what I want. Is the sizing pretty reasonable on the site? I'm 5'10", 160lbs and pretty skinny so I'm thinking the size 42 would work.

aventari posted:I have a track day coming up on June 15th and I need leathers.. Is this a good suit and a good deal? So I went and tried on suits at a local store and while the size 44 fit almost perfect on the arms and legs, the torso was way too short. As in, there was massive camel toe if I stood up all the way and it pulled down hard at the neck and shoulders. The size 46 was still a bit tight in the crotch area but I could stand up and walk without pain. The problem that with 46 the arms were a bit too long and a tiny bit loose and the legs were the same way. I realize the suit is designed for crouching on the bike, but realistically you will have at least walk around a bit with it on. I tried on Joe Rocket and Alpinestars and the JR suits seemed to be more accomodating. I'm probably going to order the 46. Got my 1 piece JR leathers yesterday. I went with size 44, even though they're a bit tight walking around, they fit well when on the bike. (I'm 5'10-11" 160lbs for reference) I got them for $530 (retail $900) from newenough, that's the only reason that I got the bright green Power Rangers gear. Also pictured are my $30 AGV gloves (retail $90) So I'm ready for my Willow Springs track day on june 15th dad and I (not gay)

gear pics from 30-35mph lowside Joe Rocket Pheonix 2.0 - I got a bit on rash on my elbow where the mesh wore through. The snap that tightens the arm ripped off and the armor didn't stay in place Scorpion EXO-700 - minor scratch, I'm bummed I have to buy a new helmet even though this one is still perfectly serviceable Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants - worked pretty well, the knee got shredded but it protected me from the road and the bike. My jeans didn't even get a hole in them. I would want something better in any accident more severe than this though. No pics, but my Alpinestars SMX-4 boots held up great, and even thoughthe leather tore in 2 places, the padding and hard plastic shell certainly saved my shin and foot and ankle from anything more serious than the deep bruising I got.

Yeah I got the bag and I just started using it this week because you asked about it Honestly, it's pretty terrible. If I was ONLY carrying around my laptop it would be fine, but if I try to carry my laptop, clear face shield and an inner jacket liner then its almost too much for the bag and it wont zip up. It doesn't have nearly as much capacity as it should. I'm not happy with it at all, and will go back to wearing my normal Jansport type back pack when I dont absolutely need to carry a laptop around. It's also a pain to access the normal stuff i carry in the back pocket like phone/wallet and keys. aventari fucked around with this message at 08:32 on Aug 9, 2007 |

I didn't have a problem with their construction, they are actually really good for commuting. Reasonable protection and easy to get in and out of. I even wore them for nights out as well a few times and they look perfectly fine for that (just going out) They were quite pricey though and didn't hold up that well in my 30-40mph lowside I ordered a set of these to replace them: http://www.newenough.com/protective_apparel/textile_jackets_and_pants/tour_master/caliber_textile_motorcycle_overpants.html and will be reporting how they are next week.

I really love my Alpinestar SMX-4 boots. I recently was in an accident with a car and my boot really protected my foot and shin well. The leather got torn a bit so I bought an identical pair of boots and I'm wearing them now. I've never had a different pair of boots though. As for the visor argument, I have a Scorpion EXO-700 so it takes about 30 seconds to swap visors. I ride to work with my tinted visor on and then when I leave it's usually dark so I swap over my clear visor. I always wear a backpack so I carry aroudn the extra visor in my pack. Most importantly, to keep it from getting scratched I use this visor protector: http://tinyurl.com/28hwah

I really like the 1000 series, but the extra $100-150 is kind of a turn off for my first helmet, especially when the only differences seem to be in the gadgets that the helmets have (1000 series has the cheek pump and flip-down sun shade, while the lower models do not), while everything else seems to be the same or similar (kevlar/fiberglass shell, etc). I love my EXO 700, I got it when I started riding 3 years ago on my Ninja 250 after trying everything in the store, and I'm still using it, 3 bikes later. I have a clear visor for night and a tinted visor for the day and they are simple to swap and never fog up. I even crashed in it at a low speed on the road and was perfectly fine. If it fits your head shape, go for it. You should definitely try it on in person first though. I'm in San Diego and I use boots/gloves+mesh jacket and mesh overpants in the summer for commuting. I've probably mentioned it a few times but I love my Scorpion EXO700. I got it 3 years ago, and haven't had any problems except it's a bit on the heavy side. I don't mind though it's building up my neck muscles As far as fogging is concerned, the stock clear visor has an anti-fog coating that is still working awesome for me after 3 years. My HJC was poo poo and would fog in seconds. The extra smoked visor I got doesn't have the anti-fog however it doesn't need it. As for the wind noise, the wind was really bad when I first got my exo700, but I got the aero flap thing for the chin and I don't have any problems. I'm looking to upgrade to an EXO-1000 soon, mainly for the built in sunshade--even though it takes me about 15 seconds to swap visors.

I'm sorely tempted to get them for track days and aggressive street riding. http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/bargain_basement/sidi/vertigo_corsa_motorcycle_boots.html Does anyone know anything or have experience with these? Is it even a good deal? and.. This is the first I've hear of 'pinlock'. The stock Scorpion visor on my EXO700 has never fogged up in 2+ years of riding. It comes with an anti-fog coating on it already and it works perfectly. Why don't other manufacturers have this? I can't believe people drill holes in their their visor to install this poo poo to stop FOG. wow

I use these http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/bargain_basement/joe_rocket/michael_jordan_2k7_team_replica_race_motorcycle_gloves.html Joe Rocket Jordan race gloves. They are the best gloves I've used. Super comfortable, nice thin kangaroo leather on the palm for great feel, good airflow and protective. I've been using them for commuting (10k miles/year) and trackdays for the past couple years. The stitching on the fingertips is finally starting to come apart, and I wish I could get another pair in my size.. Can I have the fingertips restitched? They're external stiches so it doesn't look like it would be too difficult, anyone have experience with this?

I love mesh jackets. I live in SoCal so I do have to deal with a decent amount of heat so I have 2 different ones, a Joe Rocket that's super light and you can pretty much see through for extra hot days and a more closed mesh Shift jacket for cooler hot days. I didn't plan it that way, the Joe Rocket didn't fit perfect so I got the Shift but it worked out. That said, they do not hold up well in crashes. I had a Joe Rocket Pheonix 2.0 that I crash at low speed on (30-40mph) and it was trashed. A couple snaps broke and the mesh wore all the way through, but i didn't get hurt at all. It did it's job fine, but any faster and my skin would've started wearing off instead. However it gets so hot that mesh is all I can wear so it's much much better than nothing.
