For anyone into vintage bikes or cafe racers there's https://www.dotheton.com. The tech section is great, and there's tons of good info in the 50$ MOD THREAD. Also, it's quite possible to commute on the cheap on an old motorcycle, provided you buy the right bike (Japanese single or twin) and are prepared to do some work yourself. No, an oil change or valve service doesn't always require forking out 600$. On a Honda CB125/175/200 for example, and oil change requires 1L of oil and a cleaning of the re-usable oil filter. Total cost is about 4$. Valve service takes all of 10 minutes every 6000miles, requires no special tools. Tires run for 30-40$ each and can be changed at home. My girlfriend is looking at used cars from a dealership at the moment, and I'm wondering if there is anything extra to pay attention to/stuff thats not quite as important in the used car buying guide in the first few posts of this thread. Specifically, she'll be looking at a prius, so I'm just wondering if theres anything unique to check for with that when buying used. Thanks!

My wife and I are halfway through a 3 year lease, and we just don't need a car anymore, so we're thinking about getting rid of it. How difficult is it to find someone to take over a lease? There's a few websites to help with that, but what are my chances? It's a 2008 Mazda 3 in great shape, if that matters.

So it's time to get my sister a first car, and she and my mom have found a 2008 Dodge Caliber with ~18k on the clock for $10,000. They're all gung-ho about it despite my warnings against econo-Dodges, but the drat things aren't old enough yet for me to point out any obvious deal killers. I've pointed out a nice Honda would cost less and surely be more reliable, but my Mom is unfortunately one of those  AMERICAN CARS 12-07-1941 NEVAR FORGET people.It's not worth it to me to argue against that, but I was curious personally if anyone has firsthand experience with Calibers... are my fears unfounded? I'm sure it's boring to drive and has a loud interior etc, but hell it's a first car, my sis hardly cares about those things. It seems to have completely online repair information for all Kia models for free. The interface is a lot like the very expensive Bentley repair manual that I got for my GTI. If anyone has a Kia, they should definitely bookmark this site. EDIT: The site doesn't seem to like FF and requires an outdated piece of Adobe software to work, but it's a small price to pay for all that information.

My girlfriend drives a 2001 Civic with 70,000 miles on it. She recently took it in for an SRS recall issue, and they looked over her car for free. The service guy told her she should replace the timing belt asap because it's been 7 years. He even said that some folks would recommend she not even drive it at this point ( ).Her timing belt is good to 105,000 miles, and I told her the dude was full of poo poo / trying to sell parts. Am I correct in my thinking? I told her I wouldn't think about replacing it until 100,000 miles.

Somebody might pay several hundred for an intact engine, for example. I use HH/AT to set craigslist search keywords and then use crazedlist.org to create a feed that meshes with Opera properly. Autotempest will autofill details that you can select through check boxes and drop menus (model year, transmission type, number of cylinders, etc.). All in all it's pretty cool.
