Is there a central large forum for mini Coopers? I assume one of the ones I find on Google is "the good one" but I don't know which. Do we have an ai thread or anything about them? I'm casually car shopping and curious about the general buzz for those cars.

If you want to swap any motor in front of any (well, not quite) 5-speed manual transmission, you need to read this thread. http://www.jeeps-offroad.com/showthread.php?t=4740 Info on using an assortment of junkyard and aftermarket custom bellhousings to put literally dozens of different engines from a handful of OEMs in front of various 5 speed manual transmissions from many of the same OEMs. AMC V8 in front of a Toyota Supra transmission? Yep, apparently bolts up with the right collection of parts.

Is it economically viable yet (over time) to buy a used hybrid instead of a purely gasoline vehicle? I drive 100 miles to work round trip and I want a new car. Looking at a 2010 Honda Insight. Is there an obvious solution for me that's not that car?

Have you done the math on how much you save per month or per year? The Insight isn't a bad car; it just doesn't get amazing highway mileage compared to cheaper gas cars. Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep (and probably others that have fallen under the same umbrella over the years - I definitely saw some Plymouth stuff in there, for instance) parts catalogs, 81 through sometime in the late 00s or early 10s. I suggest pulling what you need and what you think you might need ASAP, no telling how long the host will feel like paying the bandwidth bill. Last time I didn't grab a parts catalog when I got the chance, the dealership that had it published completely redid their website and stopped hosting the catalogs. http://oskin.ru/pub/chrysler-dodge/manuals/Chrysler_Service_Parts_Catalog/ CD1-CD5 are the interesting portions. If you know your vehicle's body code, it will help you a lot.

Eaton Fuller OTR/heavy truck transmission ratio listing spreadsheet. It's in XLS format, which is unfortunate, but it's quite useful. https://www.eaton.com/ecm/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dID=4224‎ I haven't explored it fully yet but it also shows gear ratio percentage changes from gear to gear (useful for checking if you're going to end up in a big hole/fall out of the powerband for your motor if you shift at x rpm) and some other useful data as well. Torque ratings, weight, PTO speed compared to input shaft, and length in inches (very useful for what I'm looking at.)

Vehicle is a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu LS (6th Generation, 2004-2008). GM and aftermarket suppliers state there is no cabin air filter available, but there is a location to install one (was empty). After some legwork, I was able to figure out that the cabin air filter for the Cobalt, HHR Pontiac G5, and Saturn Ion will fit in there correctly. Cross-reference Part numbers: ATP: GA-12 WIX: 24882 FRAM: CF10361 Partsmaster: 94882

If you're looking to build up an existing engine type, I'd strongly recommend looking at a variety of books on the specific engines - you'll see different recommendations from different authors, and by looking at all of them, you can usually get a better idea of what works and what doesn't. If you're designing your own, I must know what it's for!
