a friend mine from work put together a kind of neat website:
https://www.carmechanic.ca (also https://www.mecanicienauto.ca for the frenchies)
basically it's a search engine for finding mechanics, dealers, parts shops, etc. locally or in a given city. Handy if you're stranded in some place (with internet access) and need to find the nearest mechanic or whatever.
Anyway, thought I'd share, maybe it'll be useful to someone. Only lists stuff in Canada though, so not much use to you guys south of the border.

You can also go to google maps and find anything by typing [DESIRED THING] near [YOUR LOCATION]

this is can be a little more precise, but whatever. It's another way of doing it, in case google breaks or something.

we've got a the bikes subforum now but I just re-found this link and it's really handy if you need to lock something up:
http://www.stichtingart.nl/sloten_resultaat.asp
It's in Dutch, but pretty easy to understand what you're doing. Basically it's the lock/chain/anchor independent testing company that rate how easy it is to break the various security devices on the market. And if anyone knows how to steal a bike, it's a dutch junkie.
