Also, OP, thanks so much for this thread. I buy the Dark Horse editions and the volumes come out agonizingly slow. Those scanlations are a godsend!

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the ending of Berserk is supposed to be a happy one .. but considering that's coming from Miura, the meaning of "happy" is a little dubious. I don't trust him at all

Oh god me too, I just bought 32 and it makes me depressed to think that they just came out with 33 in Japan not that long ago. Berserk is the only manga I follow unconditionally any more, I'm planning on following it until I'm 40 when it finally finishes. Pick it up Miura

I agree with Niddhogg. It just seems like Casca going back to Griffith would just be tragedy for tragedy's sake. And even after she is cured, Guts still has plenty of motivation to kill Griffith still. Him violating Casca was only one of the reasons he seeks revenge. It would be really bad writing if she went back to him. Of course, I don't expect everything to be all sunshine when/if she is cured. That's just not how Berserk works. And this is probably a dumb question but what exactly happened when SK ripped a hole in Ganishka?

Nate RFB posted:Volume 22 is the latest volume out from Dark Horse as far as I can tell, and they're up to 26 in Japan and it's still ongoing. Though it's supposed to be the final arc. This is actually quite interesting you should say that. The author Samura was a pretty novice writer when BOTI started in '98 and, like Miura, he didn't know exactly how he wanted the story to go. Also like Miura, he started with a gimmicky premise designed to hook readers (In Berserk's case, it was Guts' giant fuckoff iron slab). It's pretty noticeable that the quality of the character development and story changes and grows as much as the artwork. Compare the first volume with the latest. Now I guess the story is less about the gimmick 'badass anti-hero kills some guys' and more about the characters, particularly Rin, who was just a foil for the hero to get off his rear end and do something. She's really a fantastic character. And you're right, BOTI is now on its final arc as we speak. At least some comic artists know when it's time to end a goddam story. new boot goofin fucked around with this message at 23:09 on Jun 9, 2010 |

tsob posted:The one thing I didn't like about Blade of the Immortal is that Manji is supposed to be this great swordsman but always seemed to win fights in the first few volumes (all I read) because he was immortal and not because he was in any way a better swordsman. Does this ever change during the course of the manga? Haha. At one point Manji's lost so many limbs that even he remarks on it. He's not a good swordsman at all really- too sloppy. I guess when you have the ability to live forever you don't care if you get stabbed

WH------- Aaaaa aaaa AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA noooooo Why is this happening Oh well I guess you can't be a manga hermit for 10+ years drawing gore, rape, and gore-rape without cracking a lil bit. I want to send a care package to his apartment, a fruit basket laced with encouragement, complete with a willing, understanding young woman

Zorak posted:You guys are as bad as Sankaku Complex (hint: distorting poo poo) I tend to overreact about things pertaining to Schierke because I know how popular she is among those with bad intentions. I'm sure that Miura draws things with light humor and isn't a creepy weirdo (for the most part) but I mean take Berserk, which is a dark fantasy comic devoid of lightness or cute, aside from goofy SD sequences once in a blue moon, and yet lo and behold creepy weirdos latch onto Schierke, the lone tiny girl, in a way that makes me more than a bit uncomfortable. I dunno, I'm tired and I ain't making any sense and this is a bad post, ugh Is it true that that 'loli ban' was perpetuated by the minute Fundamental Christian population of Japan, or was that something that Sankaku latched onto and made a 'thing'? I find it hard to believe that a minority of about 2% would have enough sway to throw Japan into such a polarized debate

No doubt. I guess they're at a loss for what to do and therefore submit a really poorly-worded blanket law. And as we all know pedophiles supporting anything doesn't exactly help the cause I mean for Christ's sake I saw the author of new boot goofin fucked around with this message at 03:55 on Jun 17, 2010 |

The main characters in Eva are all 14 or thereabouts, I think. And there is some...goings-on with them in that show. It ain't porn but I guess it's just enough to fall under the 'no underage characters ever' blanket.
