Loveline stream information

I turned so many friends on to Loveline through your stream, so I am delighted to be able to thank you in (Internet) person.

Your post also got me thinking about my 55GB of Loveline and the DC++ hub in particular. I had a server constantly connected to that thing for almost as many years as it existed, and it was a great source for both Loveline and conversation. I can even proudly say that a couple episodes came from my own recordings. Then one day the server threw a banned message at me -- which it continued to do through multiple IPs -- so I assumed it was whitelisting people. Based on the thread so far, I guess that's so.

All this is ridiculous. It frustrates me to read through the thread and hear that it's hard to get Loveline these days. Like FCKGW said, everyone should have the same iPod full of shows, and the stream is a perfect idea.

I suppose Westwood None is ultimately to blame. If Giovanni's site is actually making money, he is a colossal rear end in a top hat. But I don't see any ads on it, so if it's just Westwood Two being jerks I suppose I understand. If he's cashing in, though, I want my recordings deleted!

The other thing about Los Angeles is there are so many cities in the Los Angeles area that residents aren't even aware of. I remember when they had to go to some event in Yorba Linda and Adam kept shouting, "I've never even heard of Yorba Linda! Where the hell is it? Why do they keep sending us further and further away? Are they going to have us going to Temecula next?"

They just need to let the discussion flow naturally from the callers. Neither of them was ever good at creating material, so they find themselves with the opposite problem of Loveline: they need to take more calls. Adam is hilarious when it's natural, and grating when it's forced. I haven't listened to the second episode yet, but hopefully they actually take calls.

Like Adam and Drew said at the time, it's not like they really were crank calls. The girl making those calls was not a healthy person. Something definitely happened to her, and her life no doubt does suck. They weren't able to help her or anything, but still.

I agree that it was strange they couldn't pick up on her routine, though.

Yeah, I started listening in 2000 and it was mostly the same show (if continually more relaxed) up until the end. I'm not sure that I would have kept listening if I'd started earlier. Producer Ann is, I think, the worst of what you're describing. I am far more inclined to re-listen to an episode > 1999 than try a new one from that era.

I'd really like to know what more he thinks he can take from us. He already took all of the tapes and recordings that we all made and put on the DC++ hub and shared with each other, then shut that poo poo down in favor of his own exclusive website, so does he think he's gonna break into our homes and delete our local copies?

I'm doing my best to stay out of all this but I must say I've done my hardest to credit every single taper for their work over the years on the site for each and every recording. I've gone out of my way to track down people I haven't talked to online in years (as well as a couple cases never) and ask if it was okay to give them credit, some didn't even want it and were just happy their files were being shared with the fans. Many pre-1999 shows were bootlegs from fans of whatever band was on the show, they didn't want to be mentioned whenever I came across a taper or tape source but were fine with the archival and sharing of the files for free. If anyone has a personal recording on the site they feel they should be credited or even removed please let me know and I can have it done for you. I'm not trying to be the bad guy here, just tell me what tapes and recordings from the Hub need to be credited and I'll gladly do it. Cheers - Adam D,

I certainly didn't mean to imply that I don't want my tapes shared; as I know you remember, that was the whole point of the hub. We all want everyone to have access to these thousands of hours of engaging and funny programming. I certainly don't want credit, and I sure as hell don't want anything removed.

It's just frustrating when only a chosen few are allowed to share this content we all helped to save (and you can blame Westwood None for a lot of it, I know) and particularly when his attitude about it seems to be that the reason he's allowed is because of how awesome he is. If his attitude was, "Hey, we all helped to create this great archive and it's unfortunate that Westwood One is being uptight about it. I'd love it if it could be shared other places," that'd be one thing. Instead it's all about how great he is, and how he's the one who kept the fanbase alive.

Maybe that's the central point: we don't want recognition because all we did was make some tapes of a show and help share Loveline with as many people as possible. Not only does Giovanni want recognition, but he loves to imply that he's the reason we have an archive, and now apparently the people who helped share and contribute to that archive are "pieces of poo poo" trying to "gently caress with his position." All we've done is sit around talking about how the guy seems like a douche.

I listened to Gio's latest podcast (which is 6 hours long) and it's terrifying.

He started of the show about how he was buying a sandwhich and some chick was maybe hitting on him. He didn't say anything obviously or approach her. They then move on to talking about how they have sock puppet accounts for reviewing on iTunes and how he's bitching to iTunes to get them to remove every review that's not a 5 star, even one that was a 4 star. He's also talking about being super paranoid about people saying he sucks for the intro.

Then he goes into this discussion about how they can't "fire him" from the intros because he says he'll release all the files out somehow. He says he "cornered them through pressure" to make Westwood One release their files. It's all very surreal.

He just his tirade on the lovelinetapes.com message board.

No disrespect, but... why would you listen to that?

ZONE 105 was a Minneapolis station, so I get the "local affiliate feeling" quite often. My favorite SEXWORLD commercial was Bill Clinton cleaning out his office. That place still stands, open 24 hours; a relic of the seedy days of yore. I can't imagine they actually sell much porn these days, so they must have diversified, but I'm afraid to find out how.

We're smack in the middle of the ZONE!! (oh, wow) 105.

They're also working from recordings of the show that were created by other people. To unclepenny's credit, he's offered to remove shows if you don't want them up (which would be counter-productive) and very few tapes came from me in the first place, but still. I think most of us shared our recordings because we wanted as many people to listen to them as possible. So when they closed down the hub, locked everything up, and started narcing on people who were sharing, it was annoying.

To be fair, apparently the content owners have decided that he gets to do it and we don't, but from his attitude I have a hard time believing he didn't have a huge amount to do with that. So when he says stuff like "You guys are stealing and I'm not" it pisses me off, since as far as I know he shared fewer recordings than me, if he even made any at all. His archive only exists because of other people and he's a complete rear end in a top hat to them.

I think old Adam would be disappointed in modern Adam just because he's now a 100% overstocked comedy warehouse. I still occasionally listen to the show when there's a guest I want to hear, and I do Adam and Drew show occasionally, and I can basically always predict what jokes will happen and what Adam will talk about. I can't remember the last time he had new material.

He was always sort of like that but the magic of Loveline was the idiot callers supplied him with constant material, and with his legitimately excellent improv skills he could make gold out of it all the time. Especially if there was a good improv guest along with him like Dana Gould or DAG.

I wish Dana Gould had made more than one appearance on Loveline.
