I took about fifteen minutes to cut all that crap out and join the parts from the 11 o'clock part of the show and the noon part so that the editing resembles the LoveLine archive more, if anybody wants it--and if it's okay to post. I'd think it would be, considering that 1260 has it on their site for free, but I'd rather not get banned.

Okay, it should be here in a little bit--my internet is slow tonight, and it's late, so I'm letting it upload while I go to sleep. I've started trimming/archiving all the Dr. Drew Live podcasts, too, if anyone wants the edited versions of them (without the news and silences).

And mods: if this isn't cool, just let me know and I'll take it down. I'm not removing ads or anything that 1260 would want kept in there (I don't think, anyway), so I assume it should be fine.

It seems like Adam hated a lot of the PSAs they played. "Your body's built for a lot of things, but unexpected turbulence isn't one of them."

When they aired that PSA on 9-12-2001, Adam was pretty pissed. He hated it anyway, but then he went on a rant about how bad of taste it was in to play it the day after the World Trade Center attack. It was kinda funny, but that was a real downer of a show. :(

I just listened to the recording of Thursday's show with Adam back on there, and I can say that I finally understand where all the hate for Stryker comes from. I don't think he's a terrible host (certainly no Adam, but hey, what can you do?), but he's definitely not a good one. He just has no personality at all, especially compared to Drew or Adam--or even Anderson. Anderson made me laugh more during that particular show than anyone else. "I 100% have herpes!"

I could have sworn it was some woman from Survivor (who was promoting a Playboy shoot, I think). Jeri or something, maybe? I was listening to an episode from late-01 or mid-02 with her on it, and Anderson played it when some guy had a question about his penis size. She was horrified and reassured the guy that it wasn't her, at which point Adam informed her that it was her, from last time she had been on the show.

EDIT: http://shows.lovelinearchive.com/Loveline%20-%202001-08-21%20(Guest%20-%20Jerri%20Manthey).mp3
That's the show where they tell her she's the source of the drop, I'm pretty sure. I'll listen again and see if I can find it in there, or someone else can if they want.

EDIT2: It was the second to last call, and they didn't say anything about it being her, but she was still horrified and had to clarify that it actually was Anderson with a drop. I still think it sounds like her, though. The mystery continues!

Well normally they charge for it, and unless I'm totally mistaken linking to downloads of things you normally are charged to acquire is generally frowned upon. The fact that there are a bunch of episodes up otherwise made me think that maybe it would be okay, but right now the point is moot because Loveline's website won't even have the recording of tonight's episode up until tomorrow night. I was just asking in case nobody has a copy recorded off the radio up before the official website releases it.

The only Loveline with Stryker I ever listened to was the one with Adam where he was promoting The Hammer, and it was okay, but Drew definitely seemed to be checked out and bored the whole time. I think Adam even gave him poo poo for it.

Maybe it was just an off night, but even compared to all the old recordings, Drew seems like he's had a fire in his belly both shows so far. He's pretty aggressive with the callers when they get out of line and he's doing a good job wrangling Adam pretty well. I only heard one old episode where he was like this, and it was because Adam was late and he was on his own. Has anyone else noticed Drew's new spine growing in, or is it not a new thing?

He does acknowledge that there are *maybe* two or three people in the U.S. who aren't exaggerating or making it up, which is so gracious of him, but what the gently caress does he expect parents to do when it's your kid? I think he's mentioned that one of Donny's kids has a peanut allergy, does he expect her to suck it up and eat PB & J sandwiches to build up an immunity? If I didn't carry an EpiPen everywhere and watched what my six year old was putting in his mouth, I'd be at best extremely negligent if he died from anaphylaxis. That's just a little different from the neglect his parents showed by not showing interest in his Pop Warner football games when he was a kid. So boo-loving-hoo, Adam, your kids won't eat peanut butter at the extremely expensive private school you put them in to keep them away from Mexicans. SUFFER.

And, believe it or not, I like Adam, this is just the thing I hate the most he rants about. I think he really does care about kids, so he should think for once and shut up about it.

Maybe I just haven't heard enough of his peanut allergy rants, but I haven't heard him say say anything like that. All I've heard him go on about are the parents who expect everyone else to completely eradicate peanuts and anything even remotely related to peanuts from anywhere their little darling is going to be anywhere near in the next week. I'm not saying he's always right (he's certainly not), or that he doesn't go overboard when he rants about it (he does, but that's his job), but if someone told me I couldn't have some airplane peanuts because their kid is gonna be on that plane two flights from now, I'd be pretty irritated.

I had a friend in high school with a severe allergy to peanuts that he nearly died from as a kid. We ate lunch with him everyday, and one of my other friends sat not three feet from him on a regular basis, eating peanut butter and jelly. He was fine. Another friend often had trail mix, rife with peanuts. This kid didn't blink an eye. I think Adam's point was that a lot of parents get a little overprotective to a degree that's not warranted, and when it starts messing things up for everyone else, it's hard to swallow without getting mad about it.

In addition to what everyone else pointed out about the phone screeners not being very good at screening calls, I also want to point out that I heard Drew bring up the demographic thing almost every time Adam started to talk about how they have the dumbest listeners. Drew was adamant about correcting Adam and making it clear that the callers were the idiots, not the general listeners, and they only heard from the portion of society that got off on calling into a national radio show with their problems, so the percentages of messed up people calling in weren't really representative of society as a whole.

Nobody's saying that every woman in porn was molested as a child, especially not Drew or Adam. What women in porn do have are boundary issues, a common result of molestation. There are certainly other causes, yes, but that's one of the big ones. There are also other ways that these things come out later in life. I have friends on either side of the issue: both were molested, one became fairly promiscuous from an early age (she had a party when her number of partners exceeded her age), and and the other is a 25-year-old virgin (and freaked out by lesbians). The point is that massive childhood trauma of any sort will gently caress up a person's sense of interpersonal boundaries later in life, whether it's being molested, or beaten, or being neglected, or whatever. It's why Drew and Adam are really wary of women at all-nude clubs, but let it slide when a girl works at a topless only bar and claims that her childhood was fine. They also regularly admit that there are always outliers to the norm that occur without trauma as well. They just happen to be rare.

Adam and Drew dealt with the same kinds of problems every single night for so long that I think they started using a kind of shorthand when it came to going over them. They don't explain every facet of addiction or molestation in every single call, but you pick up bits and pieces of how they come to their conclusions if you listen long enough.

2. I'm amazed at how good Psycho Mike is! I remember trying to listen to a Stryker episode one time and thinking that he sounded like this rear end in a top hat announcer in some Need for Speed game I'd gotten for Christmas one year (turns out it was him, and he was just as annoying in both roles), and it turned me off of new Loveline. Even when Psycho Mike started and everyone said he was much better, I had a hard time believing he was "good" instead of "not as bad as Stryker," partly because of the name. He's much better, and everything I'd want in a host that's not old Adam. I'm definitely going to start listening to live shows now, I'm pretty excited.

Why is it that the "just stop" people refuse to believe that addiction isn't a choice. Is it just a single mindedness where they can't comprehend any other reality than their own.

I mean I've never been depressed, for example, but I would never suggest that the cure for depression is just to "cheer up".

The "just stop" people I've met tend not to realize/accept that it's a disease, so they can't comprehend the drive for substances that it causes. Telling an addict to "just stop" is like telling someone with diabetes to just stop needing insulin.

Physical dependance and Addiction are two very separate things. Diabetes is a great example, because diabetics are physically dependent upon their medications- they are not, however, addicted to them. Once you can recognize that clear divide between addiction and dependence, everything you think on the subject changes and becomes more accurate. Addicts suffer from a biological disease/disorder that manifests in psychological behaviour patterns- there really aren't very many well-educated or intelligent people who still believe that the root of addiction is based in choices anymore, and this is a good thing.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially the part about people reading the same word and getting different meanings. I also just want to clarify that I know my diabetes analogy kinda falls apart when you actually start looking at stuff and get into the difference between addiction and dependence, I just use it because it's the one I've found that seems to help people who don't understand addiction realize that it's not based in choices. It's good you pointed that out, I didn't even think about it this time.
