I saw Mad Caddies last night in Baltimore, they whipped rear end. It wasn't a full crowd but everyone was having fun. There was a multi-minute trombone solo during Weird Beard, and they played a good mix of old and new stuff.

Anyone have a rip of the ASOB Pascal Party show? The old link (http://www.snevesneve.com/jaytea/thepascalparty/split/) now redirects to a tweet that can't be seen lmao. Google turns up pretty much nothing, and I haven't been able to find any uploads to youtube.

Scott from Reel Big Fish is apparently having health issues related to an old case of Lyme disease. The reddit ska people are discussing whether he has fallen in with charlatan medical providers, but if you are inclined to donate, his wife has a gofundme here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-scott-beat-lyme-disease

The gofundme itself was posted by skatune network, AKA Jer Hunter, so I assume the gofundme is legit at least.

Scott streams on twitch fairly frequently and while I don't watch them very often, they can be fun. I'm not sure if he talks about his health issues there or not, but there's probably archives that people could look through for more context.

IDK if it embeds but some sicko made a lullaby cover of Rockview their greatest hits and it rules. I’m gonna gently caress up this kid so drat good.

Also they’ve put up a couple of tracks from the Rockview ‘23 vinyl they’re selling on your. Imo I prefer the OG versions but they’re still pretty good.

Is that vinyl all re-records or just a couple of tracks? I saw LTJ last week and saw the vinyl at the merch table, but I already have that album over three or four different pressings so I didn't wait in line to check it out or anything.

It's a double album, and I think the first disc is just the album, but this is the list on the other disc:
C1 Metalheads '23
C2 Motto (demo)
C3 Big Crash (demo)
C4 Honest Answers (demo)
C5 History Of A Boring Town (demo)
D1 Boring Town '23
D2 Last One Out of Liberty City (Live)
D3 Them Song for H Street (Live)
D4 Nervous In The Alley (Live)
D5 All My Best Friends Are Metalheads (Live)
D6 I Think I Love You

Boring Town sounds fine, but that Metalheads recording is terrible. The horns sound awwwful. The other thing of note is the demo for Honest Answers, as I don't think that's ever been heard. It's a very rough demo, but it's cool and you can see it fitting in on the album:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh4aq0bBbT0

On a related note, I've actually been to two ska shows this month! The Bad Time Records tour (Catbite, WATU, Kill Lincoln, and Bad Operation) and Devon Kay and the Solutions. Less Than Jake sold out before I could get a ticket, and the BTR tour sold out it's 650 person venue in Philly. Outside of Streetlight, that's easily the biggest ska show I've seen where all the bands formed this century.

poo poo, I didn't know about that show at Reggies, I would have gone to that. I was going to skip The Blue Meanies after the Kill Lincoln/Cat Bite/ We are the Union and Less Than Jake/Voodoo Glow Skulls shows. And also I realized that while the Blue Meanies are hella rad, I'm not a big fan of a lot of there stuff. Chicago has been wild with ska shows lately, it rules.

Both were really good. I get not being into the Blue Meanies, they can get pretty weird. Great turnout for BM, maybe not sold out, but very close.

Mustard Plug have announced their first new album in 9 years, Where Did All My Friends Go?. Out September 8 on Bad Time. There is also an extremely small run of a limited edition vinyl, which I do not care about because I am not a vinyl person, but some of y'all might be interested.

I'm really excited for this, the new song sounds great. I really like how they keep iterating on their sound - we're not getting the same album over and over, but there's no huge shifts, and you can clearly see the the slight evolutions from In Black and White to Can't Contain It to this.

My older brother got me into ska years and years ago in the '90s. I've kept up with the scene, he hasn't, and I want to make a playlist for him so he can hear some of the stuff he's missed. I'm interested in recommendations, I'm sure I'm forgetting some bands. They can be new bands, or older bands but newer material, but I'm trying to keep it to one track per band, or else I'd be here for weeks. So far, I've got the following:

1. We Are The Union - Ordinary Life
2. Streetlight Manifesto - Forty Days
3. Kill Lincoln - Second Cities
4. Have Nots - Used to Be
5. The Action! - Jimmy
6. Mu330 - Hoosier Love
7. Westbound Train - Mercy, Wash Over Me
8. Catbite - Asinine Aesthetic
9. Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Lonely Boy
10. The Johnstones - Down On Me
11. The Hippos - Lost It
12. Bruce Lee Band - Occupy The Love
13. Big D and the Kids Table - Raw Revolution
14. Ellwood - Lost In Transition
15. Mad Caddies - Shoot Out The Lights
16. Joystick! - Parallelograms
17. Taj Motel Trio - god Save The Scene
18. The JB Conspiracy - Be Aware
19. The Abruptors - Best Wishes, Warmest Regards
20. Less Than Jake - City of Gainesville
21. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra
22. Slapstick - There's A Metalhead In The Parking Lot
23. I Voted For Kodos - Please Die In A Fire
24. Spider Nick and the Maddogs - The Pool
25. Mustard Plug - You
26. Skankin' Pickle - $13,000 Is A Lot Of Food!
27. Rx Bandits - Status
28. The Arrogant Sons of Bitches - So Let's Go! Nowhere
29. Bomb The Music Industry - 25!

A couple of these are older, in or even before the era he listened to, but they're new to him. Most of these are going to be names that people plugged into the scene know, but there might be a few lesser known bands in there that even people in this thread might not have heard of.

What great bands am I missing, and what's the best pick for songs from those bands? I know I don't have the more hardcore-adjacent stuff represented, like Link 80 and Omnigone, but neither of us are into that. I try to keep up with newer bands, but I'm old, so I'm sure there are some great ones I don't know about.

#2 isn't ALWAYS bad...

Voodoo Glow Skulls, Mephiskapheles, The Slackers, The Planet Smashers, The Pietasters.

Getting closer to hardcore as you mentioned, but Suicide Machines, Choking Victim, and Against All Authorities all have one foot planted firmly in the ska sound.

The latter two are still together, although neither is purely ska anymore (one could say Fishbone never was).
