The only Taylor Swift song I can currently remember is Bad Blood, but this ska cover album has been fun.

Anyone have a rip of the ASOB Pascal Party show? The old link (http://www.snevesneve.com/jaytea/thepascalparty/split/) now redirects to a tweet that can't be seen lmao. Google turns up pretty much nothing, and I haven't been able to find any uploads to youtube.

Hopefully this works. I dont know what im doing.

Seeing The Eclectics tonight and Blue Meanies tomorrow. Bringing back the 90s here.

poo poo, I didn't know about that show at Reggies, I would have gone to that. I was going to skip The Blue Meanies after the Kill Lincoln/Cat Bite/ We are the Union and Less Than Jake/Voodoo Glow Skulls shows. And also I realized that while the Blue Meanies are hella rad, I'm not a big fan of a lot of there stuff. Chicago has been wild with ska shows lately, it rules.

The other day I started listening to a bunch of my old favourite bands on Spotify, and I started asking myself why the ska boom of the late 90s seemed to die out so quickly. I don't know how much I'm filtering history through my own experience. Me and all my high school friends were band geeks, so we got really into ska. As soon as we graduated high school, I hatched into a goth while all my friends got really into emo and wrote lyrics on their Chuck Taylors and changed their AIM usernames to XvMyHeartBleedsBlackTearsxV.

I was very very surprised to find this thread on the first page of NMD. So like, what happened? Or has there been a thriving scene for 20-odd years that I was just completely in the dark about?

The mainstream popularity certainly was fad that came and went. They talk about it in "Pick it Up! Ska in the 90s" which is free on tubi, and no one has an explanation for the sudden exposition in popularity or fall off. I don't know if ska kept thriving anywhere, it definitely never went away. Some of the bigger bands kept putting out albums and newer once were just starting. I was probably going to the most ska shows from 2002 to 2010.

drat, catch-22 is still kicking??

hot take but while Streetlight is way better, I thought Dinosaur Sounds and Permanent Revolution were solid post-Tomas albums

I saw them when Dinosaur Sounds came out, it's good as is Permanent Revolution. But i have a very subjective problem with Permanent revolutions, the vocals are way too prominent in the mix, i find it off putting.
