So much good Polish black metal going on. The new Cultes Des Ghoules album is great, has wacky use of cymbals and is really catchy. I've not seen Furia mentioned on here, either. Their album Martwa Polska Jesień (https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album/martwa-polska-jesie) from 2007 is good poo poo and this interview with them is equally interesting http://www.bardomethodology.com/articles/2017/03/29/furia-interview/ Lastly, a very not-Polish but still awesome band from Colchester, UK, that I've not seen mentioned on here, Jotnarr. Burn and Bury is neat (https://jotnarr.bandcamp.com/album/burn-and-bury), and their new album is already overdue but will hopefully be out soon? OK I will return to lurking in the shadows again.

Detective Thompson posted:Woe has a new EP out. That Dawn cover came as a surprise - I knew I recognised it as soon as the riff came in, assumed it was because I had heard this pre-release. Then I read the text and realised my mistake. I guess you could say it...dawned on me.

How did I not know about Véhémence? https://vehemencembm.bandcamp.com/ French medieval-themed black metal. 'Lyrical themes: Medieval sagas, Fantasy'. Also whoever mentioned Afsky in this thread is a good person who has done me a great service. I can't get enough of their latest album, Sorg

Smirr posted:Is there any more nazi dirt on Horna that I'm unaware of This article goes into some depth - https://www.thedailybeast.com/horna-chaos-antifa-and-proud-boys-clash-over-black-metal-band-with-alleged-nazi-ties The upshot: the band denies being far right, nationalist, or 'interested in politics' full stop, but has clear and consistent links with NSBM labels and bands. Also Shatraugh once played in a band with the some fairly NS lyrics. Apparently Proud Boys are stepping in too, which is another layer of amusing

New JŘTNARR album is finally out and it's great. Favourite track title is Nazgűl Youth. https://jotnarr.bandcamp.com/ Also didn't see this discussed - Mgla having shows cancelled for links with NSBM bands, to which their response is 'we'll sue you', which isn't quite the same as denying it... http://www.brooklynvegan.com/mgla-deny-racism-accusations-give-statement-on-show-cancellations/

I've never been huge into DSBM but have today found When Mine Eyes Blacken from New Zealand. The vocals are suitably haunting, and there's a song that's over 20 minutes so I'm sold. https://selfmutilationservices.com/album/when-mine-eyes-blacken I know DSBM is somewhat samey and that there have been recent posts with suggestions, but would gladly welcome any suggestions of similar artists.

I really feel that black metal has been vindicated as the One True Genre that reflects the times we are living in. Soon we will be able to say 'I listened to that long before the plague times'. For example I've been listening to vaar who have released two things this year already https://vaar.bandcamp.com/album/as-dusk-fell

Does 'Satanic black metal music' being played for hours at Guantanamo bay count? How about if the officer then dressed as a Catholic priest and baptised a Muslim prisoner? olives black posted:They did the same thing with Skinny Puppy and iirc Ministry. Skinny Puppy sued them for 666K That's cool as poo poo. Unlike Drowning Pool whose music was played to prisoners, and who then performed at 'Freedom Fest' at Guantanamo Bay... Also just about to play new Afsky and mega excited. Found them through this thread and were one of my favourite bm finds from last year.

apophenium posted:Spectral Lore is releasing a new album under a new project, Mystras. The first preview track is a scorcher: This man is a beast. I would expect there to be a strong positive correlation between lockdown and the amount one man band BM getting recorded. (I know Mystras is not such a solo project, but thinking Spectral Lore.) Some people are expecting a 'baby boom' to come out 9 months from now - I'm expecting a DSBM boom. On a definitely not DSBM note, Winterfylleth are back with a solid album and I dare you not to smile when track 2 throws in a call-back to 'Wayfarer'. I love that little motif. Also thanks to the metal thread am enjoying the new Uprising

abske_fides posted:What are your go to black metal bands/songs/albums when it comes to awesome bass lines? For me it's As flittermice as Satans spys by Darkthrone. You hear the same guitar riff droning for 3/4 of the song, but the bass plays a melody towards the end that changes everything. It makes it sound almost happy which makes it even loving creepier than the rest of the song. Then it would be the album Martwa Polska Jesień by Furia - https://paganrecords.bandcamp.com/album/martwa-polska-jesie or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G89Uj6g3UaM if you prefer YT link. Particularly the first two tracks, which are a) insanely catchy and b) have cool basslines.

This is great, I love these ridiculously shrieky vocals. Kind of sounds like a parody of black metal but 100% in a good way. Can't think of many other examples of that goblin fanatic style, apart from this https://selfmutilation.bandcamp.com/album/when-mine-eyes-blacken?from=hp (it's dsbm so totally different, but you might hear similarities in the vocals). Anymore recommendations for goblin fanatic vocals?

Thanks for the suggestions. Really enjoying this Bad Manor album, getting big Cultes Des Ghoules vibes off of it. What was that black metal album themed around horror films? IIRC, each song referred to a different iconic horror franchise. It was actually good but I can't remember what it was called! Also, a friend has just set up a zine called Signal Fires to cover anarchist and antifascist black metal in the UK. Just the one interview with Dawn Ray'd so far, but look forward to more. https://signalfireszine.substack.com/
