What is the order of doing things to upgrade and then jailbreak 4.0?

I've only seen 3GS and 3G stuff but I was hoping that, since those are more complex, it meant the Touch was already done and nobody reported it in the rush. This looks like the best lead... but I don't know if I want to be the first to take the plunge. It looks like the order of steps is: 1. Make sure you have iTunes 9.2 2. Back up your iPod using iTunes 3. Upgrade to official 4.0 in iTunes 4. Open up Redsn0w and click on the Browse button. 5. Navigate to the iOS 4.0 GOLD MASTER version of the firmware for your iDevice (not public release). 6. Go through the normal steps following the on screen instructions on the Redsn0w program. 7. Let the program run until it says it has completed successfully.

I think the real question is, will the rear camera be 5MP, with a flash, and capable of recording 720P video, like the iPhone? There were rumors that the new touch would end up with the 3GS's 3.2MP camera.

So even though the new iPod says it takes 720p HD video, it's really not taking 16:9 HD video, but a lower resolution? I mean, won't people see that it's not really HD when put up against video taken by any other HD camera?

The Apple site is very vague about stating resolution for the 720p video it takes. I would love to have confirmation that it is 16:9, but I'm not getting my hopes up just yet (I ordered the 64gb version on the spot, just FYI, but I'm prepared to be let down if it's some weird resolution).

toxick posted:Guys, the video recording is 720p. The still shots are cropped. The reason the still shots having a poor resolution is due to the sensor being made for video, not video AND still photos. Recording video and taking still photos are two different things. They simply couldn't fit the sensor and LED flash from the iPhone 4 into the touch. They have not specified this, and the example video on apple's site that says "this video was shot on an iPod touch" is in the iPod touch aspect ratio, not 16:9.

Astro7x posted:There were so little features I used on my Touch when I jailbroke it, and most of those features I used were added in iOS4. In most cases jailbreaking causd my iPod to be laggy and the battery drained faster. The other main thing I use jailbreak for is image backgrounds and to make a 5 by 5 icon grid to fit a lot more apps on the screen. These issues are solved in 4.0 firmware with folders and built-in backgrounds, so I won't need to jailbreak for them. The only thing I wish Apple would add is some way to manually back up app data. I hate how your save games are deleted if you need to free up space and delete the associated app. EDIT: Just got an e-mail from Apple saying my iPod Touch just shipped. Should be delivered by Friday, according to FedEx. JazzFlight fucked around with this message at 19:10 on Sep 6, 2010 |

I totally need a case. When are the first cases available in stores? It's annoying fretting over possible scratches on the back and the actual body is too thin to be comfortable in games.

No End to Gulps posted:Can someone explain how the multitasking works for iOS 4, on this beautiful new iPod touch 4g? The only way that you manually "quit" an app is if you hold down the app icons in the multi-task bar until they jiggle, then hit the minus symbol on the corner. The way the system works is that apps that are compatible with iOS 4.0 at least have "freeze-dry," which just pauses their state until you come back to the app. Certain apps that stream music or voice or download things in the background are allowed to do that when you're in another app. Once the RAM is all taken up, the device ends the furthest back app you were running (and freeze-dries it). You shouldn't really have to worry at all about multi-tasking, unless you're running radio apps and you want to stop the music. The multi-task bar really mostly serves as a "recently used apps" list. It's definitely handy to have in that regard.

I'm jailbroken on 4.1 and I noticed that when I open Appshopper, I see through SBsettings that I get a process called "AdSheet" running in the background (which is most likely Apple's iAds). If I don't manually close that process when I put my ipod into standby, it seems to drain the battery pretty fast.

Anyone know of a case for the iPod touch 4G that has a built in battery? I know there's one for the iPhone and the previous generation iPod touch, but I'd really love one for the new iPod. There's just not enough battery life if you play a lot of games...

I turned the volume all the way down but some sound effects seems to be unaffected. for example, the twitter app still makes a noise when I refresh. There has to be a way to completely mute the internal speaker completely without having to plug headphones in... Go to the Settings app, then tap Sounds, then either drag the "ringer and alerts" slider all the way down or enable the "change with buttons" toggle and those system/alert noises will go down when you use the volume buttons on the homescreen. Welp, I'm a bit disappointed that the storage didn't get bumped to 128gb and that we're getting the A5 processor instead of the A6, but other than that, I'm definitely upgrading my frustatingly-crashy/slow 4th gen iPod Touch to the new model. Everyone on the Internet seems to think the iPod Touch doesn't have any market, but I'm not interested in an expensive 2-year phone contract, so I want an iOS device to go with my cheap-rear end android pay-as-you-go phone. I don't mind paying $399 for the highest model, since it works out to be cheaper than the couple thousand you're paying for the iPhone over two years. Here's hoping the RAM is at least 1gb in these things or else I'll be pissed.

Also, really great that the Purchased Tab is completely useless on the App Store. I can understand some problems due to server overload in the first few days of iOS 6.0, but it's been long enough now... Another annoyance is that they scrapped the iOS 5 way of updating apps (download update for an app, and while it's installing, start downloading the next app update). Now it's back to the iOS 4 and below way of downloading and fully installing one app before working on the next.

Of course, I was an idiot and ordered two colors hoping to cancel one before shipping as soon as I got an inkling of the release date, so I'll have to make a trip to the Apple store to return one once I get it.
