Mad Momma sale.

I'm not sure if I love this, or hate it. It's interesting that's for sure. Kid talks back so the truck goes on Craigslist.

Seems like something the people around here would do, at any rate. A hardcore religious bunch them.

This kind of over the top discipline usually makes your kids despise you though.

That's funny because I bought a 2000 Ranger from a mad momma. Her son kept getting the car impounded so eventually she sold it for the tow fees ($1200). That was about 5 years ago and I'm still driving it to this day.

I also agree that possibly the only lesson being learned here is that his mother is not reasonable or compassionate.

I can see selling the kids car if they got caught racing or something.

In this case I think it might be safe to say that Mad Momma is in reality Sociopathic Momma.

To begin with, the 300 was good enough to run from the mid 60s to the mid 90s. It is a true "commercial motor" that is used in everything from 1/2 ton pickup trucks to dump trucks, generators, baggage tow tractors, and UPS trucks. Many of them still in service today.

They have more torque at the low end than just about any of the V8's of the time, making them real work motors for the poo poo they were put in.

History has shown that they are loving bulletproof, right on up there with the AMC straight 6. And this is what it comes down to: capable and reliable. Well ahead of their time.

Comparing them to the rotating door of asthmatic underpowered V8s of the time is just further proof of them being the steady workhorse of their three decade run.

The Ford 300 I6 powered these motherfuckers right here. 6,250 Lbs of solid steel whoop rear end.

People do that because getting the factory engine repaired/replaced is much, much more expensive and there is a series of those cars that is bad to get completely utterly hosed because of the intermediate shaft bearing.

Think of where the Cam on an air cooled VW engine is, on the Porsche engine there's a sort of jackshaft that drives the overhead cams and the bearings for it get hosed up, destroying the engine.

I'm like 80% sure these things ran when they were new :thunk:

This generation was FWD and used the Taurus' AX4N transmission, which could barely deal with the weight and power of that platform and they put it in a bigger car with a bigger engine and didn't really do anything to improve it.

The early versions of this automatic were so bad they suffered from geartrain meltdown:

https://www.autosafety.org/ford-automatic-4-speed/

The transmission oil pump is inside the vertically mounted valve body and is driven by a tiny little bullshit washer with teeth cut into it in the torque converter body that always strips. Then you lose apply pressure for your clutch packs and bands, and you go no more.

A bit off topic I suppose, but I had a 98 Taurus that was incredibly poo poo and I like to try to warn people away from cars that use it's terrible bits.

Oh, gently caress that guy. No, I don't give a poo poo what it used to look like, you chose to "restore" it so now the value is slightly above scrap. Congratulations, your involvement has removed significant value from something.

Edit: Although, 2 grand for a 289 Falcon in pieces really isn't that bad. In the before-time when things were bright and asshat picked up a wrench, it was probably worth what, 6-8k? I don't know how much Falcons are worth.

Sort of related, there was a 1962 Studebaker (Silver?) Hawk on the Portland, OR Craigslist awhile back, looked like it was in solid shape, the owner had taken it apart and restored it some, didn't look too bad...
Except...
It was purple. Like, Vikings jersey purple. And it wasn't just a respray, they had taken it all apart and painted it, so the doorjams, fenders under the hood, trunk, everything was purple. Also, they redid the interior, and every seat had an "S" embroidered on it. Not some sort of "S" like used in the Studebaker logo or something, that "S" you drew in elementary school.
This one:

The Vulcan V6's hilarious acceleration was described as being "Mad Vulcan Powah" on the Taurus Car Club forums.

Yes - there is even a Ford Taurus forum - https://www.taurusclub.com/

They helped me figure out why the power steering would cut out, the radio would lose sound but the display would stay on, and some other malady I'm forgetting, all at once when I put the car in reverse.

This turned out to be corrosion on the "Transmission range sensor" or what most makes call a neutral safety switch.

Seems it was annoyingly common. The first time mine did it was definitely an "ok now what the gently caress car" moment.

"taurus loses power steering in reverse"
https://www.google.com/search?q=tau...chrome&ie=UTF-8

My memory of the Vulcan engine is that it would just make more noise when you gave it more pedal, you wouldn't get any more acceleration at all. It had one rate of acceleration and that was it.
