Some random outlaw stuff to dig into. Researching these names will take you into the major singers.

David Allan Coe - You Never Even Called me by my Name
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAOVRkSCWmg

Willie and Waylon - I Can Get Off On You (great song)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLyg2scuZMo

Kris Kristofferson - If You Don't Like Hank Williams

Merle Haggard - Swinging Doors

And if you want something modern, Zephaniah Ohora is producing legit classic country. This album came out this summer but it sounds like it came from the 1970s.

And while it's not outlaw, don't sleep on the hippy country - The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, Gram Parsons.

47 years into life, hearing this countless times at goodness knows how many honey tonks, I have never gotten sick of this song.

Too bad he’s such a controversial shitheel and probable racist. Yes a lot of really racist songs were misattributed to him, but he did in fact, release a track called N****r Fucker.

Yeah, his racist and sexist songs were the first thing I ever heard from him, in high school and it didn't interest me one bit. I dismissed him back then and didn't pay him any attention, thinking that's what his catalog was like. It wasn't until less than a decade ago that I heard some actual good songs from him. I didn't intend to condone any of his abhorrent poo poo by posting this song.

I heard the song The Ballad of Red Buckets today and really liked it.

Electronic stuff along the lines of Matmos and Aphex Twin's non-ambient stuff?

(Meant to post this in the recommendation thread but I'll leave it here instead.)

JK Flesh

Check out the label Sskwan (its an offshoot of Wakaan, which is experimental heavy bass music. SSkwan is its' chiller, downtempo cousin)

Kevin Cey's Download project

Thank you - I have never checked out Kevin Cey's Download, despite that track being one of my favorite Skinny Puppy songs. I'll give these a listen. I welcome anything else. Just judging by the mention of Download, this will be right what I'm looking for.

I've recently become obsessed with this song by Minyo Crusaders called Tanko Bushi (Boogaloo) that I heard a while ago on BBC radio 4. Does anyone know what genre of music this is or know of something similar? I love the variety of instruments used and the lively feel of the music. It gives me a warm feeling, like I'm walking through some lively summer festival.

I'll throw out a couple random things. These may or may not be good matches.

The first thing I thought of when I heard that track was Senor Coconut. He is an oddball who has produced, among other things, Latin covers of Kraftwerk songs.

Showroom Dummies (Kraftwerk cover)

The Robots (Kraftwerk cover)

And just for one fun random track, that also happens to be Japanese. This track makes me smile.
