I was engaged in May of '06. I spent around $800 on a sapphire ring. I'm glad I only spent that much, because we split up a year later. If I ever get engaged again, I'm gonna insist that the money that goes towards a wedding should go to a down payment on a house or a car or something. Something tangible, not 50 sad chicken dinners and a dress.
