Not to nitpick, but you know this is a Jeep thread, right?

Guess?
My dad has a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0L I6. He recently bought a new, more fuel efficient car and now the poor thing sits forlorn on the street in its Dust Gold glory.

What can be done to keep it from an untimely death by disuse? I went to start it after about 2 weeks of sitting and it gave a disconcerting puff of smoke on startup, and it just feels a little weaker power after about 3-4 months of light use.

I know we ALL know how reliable Jeeps are, but no joke in 12 years of ownership and 162k miles we have not had a single issue with the car. Just regular maintenance and tires. I recommend a 4.0L Jeep to ANYONE who asks me for a dead-reliable vehicle...screw gas mileage, gimme a JEEP!

PGJ - Jeep Green Metallic Clear Coat
AJP - Power Convenience Group
AEM - Dual Top Group

DME - 3.73 Axle Ratio

Any of these a bad idea, or not worth getting? Anything I should look at instead?

The AX-15 is known to hold up to V8 power, but the 4bt might kill it real quick. Why don't you just build a 4.7 Stroker?

No, this is using the configurator on jeep.com... If that's indeed the case, I'll probably opt for the LSD instead, though that's a much less desirable option for me.

Hence why I am going with the VW Diesel, its closer to the original V-6 I have and has slightly higher torque (not enough to do damage though)

VW Diesels are cool in Suzukis, but I'd rather keep my 4.0 which stomps the VW diesel in power and has just as much torque. Why not put in a Camaro 3.4 V6? It'll bolt right in where the once fearsome 2.8 was.

After 8 hours of ripping the dash out, yes. :)

My blend doors broke 3x and somehow magically fixed themselves each time. My blower module melted so bad that I couldn't get the molex connector out.

I remember all those WJ issues when they first started - I used to work at a dealership in the parts dept. This is exactly why I went ahead with the lifetime bumper-to-bumper when I bought the JK - you never know what failure prone part got sourced by Chrysler... :/

Sounds like a bad plug wire. My 99 did the same thing after I replaced the wires. Turns out, one of the new ones was bad. Replaced it and the code went away.

On another note, my financial situation is nearly to the point of getting me my brand new Ruby. Has anyone had any experience with custom ordering a vehicle from the dealer? I've been looking and no one around me has a 2 door Ruby with the options I want. I'd rather not settle for something that's less than perfect for me since I plan on keeping the Jeep for a long time.

Anyway, do dealers still make deals if you're ordering from the factory? How long does it take?

You could try to find a factory tire carrier at a junkyard, but they're not very strong, and hard to find. Check out Rugged Ridge, they should have one for not too much, but it won't be anywhere near the quality of a Warn bumper.

I finally have the money to replace the shocks on my '94 Wrangler. Any advice on what to get?
I'd like not to spend much more than about $300 for all four. I have no lift kit or any other mods that would affect the suspension. I like to do light trail riding when I can (Speaking of which, does anyone know somewhere good to go in North GA for real beginners?).

I have never bought shocks before in my life so treat me as the newbie that I am.

How do I know for sure what kind of starter solenoid my Jeep needs for sure? The guy at the auto parts store thinks it might be a Mopar part, or as I mentioned before, a Mitsubishi part, or some other kind. I've already replaced the Peugeot transmission with an Aisin unit, which makes this thing more of a parts mish-mash than it was from the factory.

This really makes me miss working on Toyota's, but dang, I sure do like the 4.0
