I've been trying my hand at producing EDM and making remixes since 2003 and got hooked on mash-up production over the past summer. Hopefully you'll find something on my blog that will tickle your fancy:

I'll be posting a new mash-up every Monday and a new remix every Thursday until at least late December.

It's kind of old, but I still really like Tapemasters Inc - Mash up gang. Though it isn't big multi song mashups, and more of just two songs mixed together. But the selections all seem perfect, for example

http://www.imeem.com/groundzerorecords/music/80BRxmcX/eminem_vs_robert_miles_children_are_gone/

seems like it could have been original, and not a mashup.

Got a bunch of mixes and remixes available for download, all free of course. They admittedly don't have quite as many cool shock choices as Girl Talk (although Baba O'Reilly and Love Will Tear Us Apart are both pretty left-field cuts they've dropped into mixes), but they're good mixers and in the Girl Talk/Diplo/etc. vein for sure.

Also in case you havn't already heard em the Ratatat remixes are pretty awesome. Its not so much mash ups but same idea of taking verses from other songs and switching it up. Its also not quite as dancey. id start with volume 2.

If you like night ripper there are some pretty good mixes floating around somewhere that he does for his live shows. Might even find some of it on youtube if you look. The live stuff is great and its all similar to night ripper her just uses more recent songs. New album on the way too.

Watch for spinys
I'm slowly going through this thread myself, as after Feed the Animals I found myself in a similar boat to the OP: Never listened to any kind of mashup before outside of the 2-songs-together stuff on the radio late at night, which I didn't care for much, but Girl Talk and the other stuff in this style are wonderful and I enjoy it crazy much.

Anyway, something else that ought to be in this thread is the guy who made the fake-leak that went around :filez: as Girl Talk - Feed the Animals before the real thing came out. The real album was Speaky - Mashcore Vol. 2 and personally I think it's really drat good as well, along with its predescessor Mixcore Vol 1. They're both available for free at the Myspace.
http://www.myspace.com/speakymusic

Considering a lot of folk seemed to belive that it actually WAS Feed the Animals until the real thing happened, it's fairly safe to say that they're similar and if you like Girl Talk you should try it.

Seconding E-603. I found it recently after getting Feed The Animals, and while they use a lot of the same samples in the two albums, I got the feeling that E-603's craft was much more polished than Girl Talk's. Although there wasn't a "holy poo poo" moment like on FTA's mashup of Lil Wayne and RHCP for me.

I'd really encourage anyone who enjoys mash-up music to give it a shot themselves. Acid Pro 6 has a 30 day trial, and it's pretty straight forward to use with a little direction. I've only been doing it a couple of months, and I've found it to be an extremely enjoyable hobby, especially as I'm teaching myself along the way, so there's a nice sense of exploration and discovery there.

My technique is probably a bit inefficent though, I stick a bunch of music on my iPod, and while I'm travelling to work I rate any songs that might be good for sampling with 5 stars, and when I get home I open iTunes and work my way through the top rated songs, beatmapping and chopping them up into little pieces. Then I'll listen through my big list of samples until I find something good, then start seeing which samples compliment it and start building up the track from their.
Then I try to figure out a transition that doesn't suck, and find a nice acapella sample to layer on top of the first section, and repeat the same process for the next section.
Once I've got a few sections done I'll see if I can add any other background samples to make things more interesting.

I'm guessing felipebacon has a better method, especially as I taught myself how to use Acid
Pro, but if you really like mashup music then I think you would find it very enjoyable to do it yourself, even if you aren't quite up to Girl Talk's level.

I use Ableton Live but my method really inst that complicated. Sometimes I'll hear a song and think "This song reminds me of another song" and see how well they work together. And other times it becomes just a hit and miss kind of thing.

The new stuff I've been working on is less silly than Bad Apollo (in the sense that there aren't any Pokemon samples), but still fun for me to make. Here's two tracks:

Secret Diary is pretty much nothing like his last two albums, the genre is more Glitch/Breakcore than mashups. Unstoppable seems to be half Secret Diary, half Night Ripper.

I usually use http://www.acapellas4u.co.uk/. You have to sign up an account, and then the most you can download is 5 files every 30 days unless you contribute content (upload your own acapellas or contribute on their forums).

I'm diggin' this poo poo a lot. My only complaint is that it seems the audio quality of the download off his site is a bit low for the audiophile in me, and that some tracks don't perfectly sync up - most do, but some glitch or have a slight break in them, and it disrupts the flow :(

But other than that, it's really goddamn good. I'm loving it. It gives me a third album to thrash in the car alongside Feed the Animals and Night Ripper.

I really can't stop listening to the Bangfest remix, It really is the perfect song for me, I wish I knew what songs it samples, but even the amazing DJ'ing of that song keeps impressing me, the samples sound different and very awesome and close to what I like to listen normally, definitely prefer it over Girl talk.

They're usually on the 12" single or sometimes the cd single of a song. You can't seperate the vocals out of a mixdown song. Once in a blue moon, you can add an inverted left signal to the right signal, and sometimes you'll get some destructive interference and all you'll be left with is some vocals in a messed up phase, but 95% of the time this stuff comes from a record.
