So I just bought a roll of Kodachrome 64 today... I've got some Ektachrome Panther and Ektar 100 coming soon too but was the Kodachrome 64 a complete waste?

I've got a couple of Zenit E's and on the one I've tried to use, which has a perfectly fine body, the light meter seems to be really insensitive. It'll tell you to go wide open unless you're in really bright light, is this a known problem with the E or is my light meter fecked?

Anyone have both/used both that could offer some insight? Was looking at the Zorki 6 earlier today actually, seems pretty nice, let me know how you find it.

Just got 10 rolls of Kodak Ektachrome Panther 100, should I be storing it in a fridge? It says 13 degrees on the box but I live in Ireland and it's not exactly hot over here...

ExecuDork posted:Film goes in the 'fridge. Or freezer, if you're not going to shoot it for a while (or it's infrared). Great, thanks. If I'm sticking it in the freezer, should it be in some sort of box so it doesn't destroy the film? \/\/\/Thanks! Quantum of Phallus fucked around with this message at 13:48 on Jul 11, 2012 |

This might seem like a stupid question but is there a stills equivalent to the Fujifilm ETERNA Vivid stock? I've seen some stuff shot on it and it looks incredible in low light, was wondering what 35mm still stock would be the most similar?

Anyone know where to get colour Infrared film anymore? I've been dying to try it for years now but could never find it. Hell, I don't even know if you can get it developed anymore. Just found a roll on eBay for €40/$50. Film is making me poor. Quantum of Phallus fucked around with this message at 18:11 on Jul 30, 2012 |

Yeah I'm heading in to my local to pick up a few negs next week so I'll ask them. Have a load of old photography books from the early 90s that show the sort of stuff you can do with IR film and a deep yellow filter, it's gorgeous.

I just ordered 2 35mm rolls of Ilford SFX 200, has anyone got advice for using it? I'll be sticking it in a Pentax P30N, will this be a problem? I don't think the SFX 200 is proper IR film anyway so I'm not too worried about any of the P30n's camera parts using IR (I don't think they do)

Should I use any sort of filter with it? I've heard deep reds mentioned but there's so much people on the internet who've posted about testing the film and then not following up on it that I'm confused.

Anti-Derivative posted:1. Does anyone use film scanners here? If so, which ones? I use a Veho VFS-008, the resolution is pretty bad and you need to colour correct but I shoot a lot of film and don't have time or money to get it all scanned so I just use this, it does the job and if I ever need anything properly scanned, I'll just bring it into a shop. Try to get down to the Dublin Docklands at night time, there's some really nice lights, I was on a film shoot down there once and it's got some great places to shoot. Glasnevin Cemetary is cool, Botanic Gardens if you're into Nature photography. Try Ballymun or Finglas if you like shooting Urban stuff. Temple Bar is a dream on the weekend for street photography, weekend goths everywhere and all other sorts of people. Trinity College is cool too, it's full of old buildings if you're into architecture. All in all, it's really easy to get around by bus or taxi. Good luck, looking forward to seeing what you get!

That's beautiful. I just got back a roll I shot on a Canon eos 500 I bought on eBay last week and it turns out there was big shutter problems. I also shot a roll of Ektachrome Panther on it, travelled across town to get it developed in a shop that does E-6 and paid double the usual for development and now it looks like it'll turn out badly

Slide film looks so drat cool when it's developed. Pity about my new Canon having a gammy shutter and only exposing about half the shots properly Let this be a lesson: Always shoot test rolls with "new" cameras. Can't wait to actually use this in my Pentax and get a full roll out of it

VomitOnLino posted:Yeah slide looks way cool on a light table, especially medium format. I suppose the real reason I don't use it as much is that it's well over twice the price to get developed, my usual lab doesn't do E-6 so I have to bring it to a specialist Fuji retailer, even though it's Kodak. VomitOnLino posted:Also yeah it's really a good idea to first inspect the camera by look, then checking the shutter speeds by ear (you can usually tell if the low speeds are off, or the gears sound grind-y and hesitant instead of a smooth buzz). Yeah the camera seemed fine when I tested it by ear and I even shot 4 or 5 shots to finish the roll off that came out perfectly, I just didn't notice anything weird when I brought it out to shoot.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who's going to shoot film until it's gone completely, even if it is bankrupting. You can't really save money in the long run. You could always bulk buy film and load it yourself, maybe even develop yourself, then buy a scanner but there's still so much money to go into it.
