I thought you cant do that with the newer cards anymore? In any case upgrading to win 7 fixed the problem. If any of you is on the fence about win 7 I cant recommend it enough. Every app works fine and its so much faster than vista\xp.

Does anyone here have the july 2009 issue of 3d world magazine (the one with Pixar's UP in the cover) I have the magazine here but I threw away the dvd like a moron before realizing the two maya rigs in the tutorial are available on the dvd. I will forever be grateful if someone can email me those rigs if you have the dvd. le capitan posted:Here's a little bug-like robot I made. Did all the modeling, rigging, and animation. I kept hoping for it to grow wings and fly away all throughout the animation though. That would be pretty cool to animate keyframe fucked around with this message at 07:41 on Apr 18, 2010 |

BonoMan posted:Well CG Talk is a barren wasteland of just poo poo nowadays so..I have a quick tech problem. I have a project I created in Maya 2008 and now imported it into 2010. A fairly simple object that uses a targa for a reflection map. Simple "black off/white on." Works fine in 2008, but in 2010, no matter what file format I use (tiff/targa/jpeg) it won't map the reflection. It's just all reflective. Cgtalk is a barren wasteland..? what? To answer your question, no it didn't change afaik. I have used tiff for reflection maps fine in 2010 and 2011. Is it maybe breaking the connection when you import somehow? Did you try recreating the shading network in maya 2010?

I think in Vray all you need to do is to check the "linear workflow" checkbox and it does everything for you. Maya 2011 is supposed to have linear workflow under the new color profile settings too but I havent tried it so I dont really know if its a one click solution as well.

Thanks for the comments guys. @Olblue: It really is. It is more like photography in your scene than rendering. Pretty much the best 99$ I spent lately. @ Le capitan: I totally agree. That is the look I want to go for at the end. Octane doesnt support SSS or translucency at the moment so it will be tricky.

I will just quickly post two more Octane renders I did. It is using tuna's scene above. The rendertimes for both of those are near instantaneous on my not so cutting edge gtx 275 card. I love how you can experiment freely without worrying about "oh poo poo I will have to wait another 5 minutes for this to render if I move my light a little or try a different composition" keyframe fucked around with this message at 05:03 on May 18, 2010 |

Yea it is pretty simple, here is the video I made that shows the process. (nevermind the hosed up aspect ratio at the end, it is my error) http://vimeo.com/12123586 .rib and collada importing is also coming before V1.0 comes out so I am guessing we will get a timeline in octane too. I would try to simplify it a little and try to get a better composition. Right now both the background and the foreground is flat. You have the scientists goggles pushing your eye towards the rights which then hit the vial and the diagonal angle of the shelf pushes your eyes back into the scientists chest and repeat. Also for the love of god dont have the tip of his finger touch the bottom of the frame. I also think this aspect ratio is ugly as gently caress but thats a personal opinion. A more cinematic AR would help this a lot.

Film is pretty chill usually. The biggest problem with film is it takes too long to trickle down the pipe for your shot to get to people who make decisions. I had to spend a month revising a shot that could have been finaled in 5 hours. By the way my above post example is from a tv animation studio. I will rather work at a shoe factory in china than ever work at Tv animation again. Also just bought zbrush 4 and it owns.
