On the upshot, at least you are in the UK, that's where work is booming now. Ever since the tax credit for production costs was made permanent in the uk, there was a huge sucking sound in California as many VFX heavy shows most of their work to London.

Yeah London is great in terms of the quantity of work, but the weak pound and a conspiracy of sorts between the major production companies RE working conditions/contracts means that I could make more at KFC in Sydney right now than here (well, not far off anyway). So I'm really beginning to question why I'm here instead of some other city; I guess the answer would be the lifestyle as it's an awesome place to live.

Hello SA, long time no post. I've done something pretty unusual and teamed up with some work friends to make a Houdini to Minecraft exporter, and some tools to read in MRI and image slice data.

So, here is your brain on minecraft:

If you want to fool around with it, you can get the tools from here (and houdini apprentice is free):

There is a demo file that shows how to process volume data, add noise, or turn a 3d model into a volume. Happy mining!

One of my good friends at school did the exact same project with turning MRI data into volumetrics in Houdini this past year, and this may be the strangest(see: coolest) application of that data I've seen.

He also worked on a really 3d noise reduction algorithm for it which he started to explain on the second post of his blog http://zaharidichev.com/blog/

Hey, this is cool stuff. I really need to get into some more maths and implement some papers at some point... I was thinking of maybe doing something with crowd behaviour datasets. That would be nifty.
